I would like to make more use of my coconut by dehydrating but it never really turns out. It turns out chewy and then you can't shred it. What is the secret to making shredded coconut?

Thanks

Why not grate fresh coconut first then dehydrate it?

I have to say that I've never even had the thought come across my mind to dehydrate coconut....I always use mine in smoothies.

divaitalia-in my experience, shredded coconut is made with mature coconut (brown husk on the outside). The meat is harder so it's easier to grate than young coconut meat. I've personally never gone through the process of shredding my own. I inquired about this a while back and most of the people who responded just said that they bought their coconut pre-shredded (raw, mature, shredded coconut). I believe they sell it in the frozen food section of the grocery store, although I've never seen it in my area (I haven't actually been looking for it). I don't think it would be necessary to dehydrate it. Good luck!

I done it a few times with mature coconut (that's what should be used for shredded coconut), you shred it before dehydrating.

I'm almost certain the pre dehydrated/shredded one sold in stores is not raw, they use higher heat to speed up the process and save money.
