:) I am in florida and my grand daughter is just over 4 months old. My daughter and I are going to be taking her to the beach...she loves it...and I was wondering what is safe to put on her skin to protect her from the sun?? I bought a sun shelter tent like thing to set up, she has a hat. I've read that coconut oil works...does any one have any practical suggestions that have worked for you??? Thanks~

I think if you're going to be out in the sun for a prolonged period of time (like at the beach), then you should use something stronger than "natural". There are some really good physical sunscreens out there. Unlike chemical sunscreens, which are absorbed into the skin (and you definitely dont want to use that on a 4 month old) physical ones sit on top of the skin and deflect UV rays instead. They are made with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide and are broad spectrum and stable. They also have a decent SPF (which protects against UVB rays) and PPD (which protects against UVA rays).

Get a sun romper in addition to sunscreen:

I've seen some sun protection swimwear at Sports Authority for adults. I didn't look to see if they have it for kids.
