I was wondering if anyone here might know which supplements are good to use for uterine fibroids and heavy menstrual bleeding. I have found a few things but am curious to know what you all have to say. I've already seen a doctor but I don't want surgery and that's what lead me to eat raw and that's why I'm here.
Thanks,
Erika

I was diagnosed with them in 2004 and had terrible cycles and horrendous PMS. I never took drugs or had surgery for it. Periodic fasting, visualizations embracing my power as a woman/accepting my femininity and eating 100% raw foods have completely eliminated mine. My womb healed on it's own and my periods are very light now. You don't need surgery.
In my opinion, fasting and cleansing the colon & body is a good way to heal dis-eases of the body as when you go into ketosis mode, your body goes after dead cells, including tumors.
This worked for me and it wasn't a quick fix. Took about 2 years for them to be completely gone. Each month on the way though, I noticed how they were shrinking and I was feeling better. Much preferable to further traumatization of my body with surgery.
Here are some womb healing and cleansing foods: Lemons, grapefruits, oranges, ginger root, olive oil - lemons are a biggee.
Check out Louise Hay's Healing the Body. Talks about the emotional associations to illness. May help also.
Hope you find a method that works for you and if you decide to go for surgery, best wishes.
Listen to your body.

I can only offer you my mom's experience: She had several large fibroids after having children. She did the Gerson Therapy for 2+ years when I was in grade school to cure cervical cancer. In the process of doing the therapy (which is heavy on organic fresh juices and detox) not only did the cancer heal, but her body formed a harmless sort of bony shell around her fibroids. Her regular MD, who was astonished to find that she had cured the cancer, was even more surprised by the image of her fibroids which were calcified. Never seen anything like it. Her body encapsulated the fibroids to prevent them from growing I guess? In any case, she never had problems with them since, and she's also never been to a GYN since (she's almost 70 now) so for all we know they could be dissolved by now. Just an example of the healing capacity of the body when you give the immune system the tools.

You may also want to check out magnesium, or making sure you get foods high in it. There is a magnesium/calcium combo available that may be better but I don't know.
As for an herb, sarsaparilla root helped me, but it needs to be in your system for like a month, and I hate taking pills. But when I use to do it, I would get my period totally not expecting it and it was so so so light (I never kept track because the pain would be my indicator).
But with the sarsaparilla root, the magnesium in it may be the reason why it helped! ;) But if you do some research on it, you may find other reasons why it helps.
My mom had horrible heavy periods and a few years back got a hysterectomy because her fibroids bothered her too much. I know I take after her because my periods caused me to miss so much school (and work) when I was younger. And no one but my mom seemed to understand how much pain I was in. In high school I seriously use to want to go ahead and get a hysterectomy to be rid of my horrible monthly pain. If I would have done that, I wouldn't have my beautiful son! So I am glad I waited it out!
And speaking of children, when I gave birth, the pain felt JUST LIKE my period. It totally sucked, was a horrible type of pain, but it was an exact copy of my period pain, didn't need an epidural, I went without it since my very first period, what's the use?! When I was younger, older ladies use to tell me that my period pain couldn't possibly be as painful as labor pain, that I had no idea what I was talking about! They were wrong! (and I would really like to punch them in the face -- just playing!)
Raw will definitely help! Even within raw food, it is my belief that the cleaner and simpler your diet is the better your cycle will be. So organic and not OVERdoing the fats.
And Raw Heaven and Clare gave you great advice!!! I wish I knew them when I was younger, especially for my mom!
I wish you all the healing!

Hello,
I have the same challenge. I have a lot to do in the next few days, so I will post what I have learned, before the week is out. Maybe we can help each other.
Louise Hay's Healing the Body
Awesome book. I know a lady who dissolve her fibroids, using Louise Hay fibroid, tumor and uterus affirmations inside this book. You have to say the affirmations a lot, like really a lot.
She also prayed a lot, meditated, whole foods vegan diet, herbs, colonic and became a very positive person. Its like she claimed the fibroids were gone, saw they were gone, believe they were gone and they dissolved.
From my research, I have come to believe fibroids develop because our whole being become toxic. The physical body, mental, emotional, lost of spiritual connection and as Louise Hay state A blow to the feminine ego. I think the body creates fibroids to help the body survive, because the environment is so toxic. I also believe the bigger the fibroids the more toxic that person is. Well that’s my two cents for now. I would love to read what others think. At any rate I will return later with my data. As I would love to share.
Thanks for posting,
Robin

I've always had a terrible time with my cycles, fibroids and PMS. And just like Halo, before I had my daughter I was terrified of giving birth because my mother would always say that birth was 100 times worse than cramps. I couldn't even imagine!!! It was only until I was in labor that I realized that I had experience "labor" every month!!!!
Does cacao rich in magnesium? It would make sense since I crave so much chocolate during that time.
I also read on another thread here that pineapple helps with cramps.

Cacao in moderation and 1-2 glasses of hempseed milk a day have completely obliterated any cramps I used to experience. Thank God for our ability to heal ourselves and thank God for all the wonderful foods to do so with. :D

Clare, wow, this is amazing how your Mom healed herself.

Ha! You made me laugh at your comment about the older ladies. I used to miss school as well and was in terrible pain every month. I'm very happy to be raw, fibroid free and healthy now. Thank God.

PeachyLove, I couldn't agree more with your statements of how fribroids develop and why. Louise Hay rocks. I used those affirmations from her book and they work!!

Hi Erika,
I have not had time to go through my note books, but I will post a few articles I had posted almost a year ago in another forum. I will start a new thread, as the information may be helpful to anyone with estrogen dominance, challenges.

Hello everyone.
I've just turned 40 and have suffered with fibroids for eight years now. The fibroid I have now is very big and I'm being recommended for a hysterectomy (I'm single and have no children). I've tried other things over the years (homeopathy, etc) with some good results but not lasting ones.
The strange thing is that my fibroid symptoms started after I spent a period of about 18 months being vegan from 1999 onwards. Half of that time I spent being 99% raw vegan. The problems started after I fell off the raw vegan wagon and returned to being a dairy eating vegetarian. I do believe strongly in the power of raw food but haven't been able to return to the raw diet since I've become ill because I've had too much of a problem with being anaemic, (due to heavy bleeding), as well as being miserable and lacking in direction.
I've decided to give raw one last try before I have to make a decision about this hysterectomy but I had this question to ask. What could be the main thing that I could do right now to get some fast results to get me into a better state of health to continue on the raw journey and reduce the fibroid naturally over time? Would it be a major fast? I have done the Master Cleanse (lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper) for 8 days twice with not much difficulty. I'm wondering if I should do that for a longer period to get a result that could feel like a kick-start.
If anyone has any practical advice or ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks.
I've never had fibroids, but did experience very, very heavy menstrual flow and cramping up until December of last year. I started QiGong and wow -- I was halfway through the monthly experience before I realized I hadn't taken *any* meds for cramps nor was I bleeding heavily. I've been using the Matthew Cohen DVD -- "Fire and Water" -- and love it.
Come to think of it, QiGong helped lead me to raw foods because it encourages a gentler (and yet stronger) form of living. :)

I recently discovered a tea that has really helped me from Traditional Medicinals called Female Toner. It has cramp bark, red rasberry, strawberry in it and I was amazed at the results. I had almost no discomfort during the first cycle that I took it and my fibroid was much softer than normal during my cycle. I now take it throughout the month and then increase if necessary when on my cycle.
Hope it works for others too.

I am so thrilled to hear all the success stories here. I only wish I hadn't had my two, yes TWO surgeries to remove fibroids in the past. I'm not even 30 yet! They are on both sides of my family. Anyway, I notice my cycles have been getting a heavier again, so I was fearing the worst, but after hearing what you all said, I am going to take a stand on this attack on my body. I will rid myself of these wretched things once and for all. Thank you all for the encouragement to do so.

WOW! What a wonderful perspective! Rather than blaming your body, you see that the fibroids are the intruders. All too often we're "taught" to war against ourselves, so it's fabulous to read that you haven't bought into this tactic. Way to go, Nat, and best of luck! :)

It is indeed a good, strong, disciplined perspective.
But just remember that fibroids are a MECHANISM the body uses to encapsulate toxins that would otherwise wreak havoc on the major organs and functions of the body. Fibroids are just one more way our bodies protect us from ourselves. If it wasn't a fibroid (s) it could be something much worse.
While I am not happy to have my fibroids, I do thank God everyday that it is not something else, more immediately life-threatening. I can work with fibroids, and continue to get cleaner and cleaner every day and see the day that I'll be fibroid-free not far away. :)
