This post is for my mum, and she's got quite a horrible illness concerning her digestive system;

To start off, the basic information; she's 53, she has major depression and that depression has also caused insomnia, she can't fall asleep until around 3-4am in the morning (even though she takes sleeping tablets) and can't get up until around 11-12noon.

The illness is that she's got heaps of mucus in her digestive system and it's in there and she can't seem to get rid of it and the doctors she goes and sees can't seem to treat the problem, and it just feels horrible all the time in there and it's also interfering with her digestive system. The layer of mucus covering the walls of her stomach and intestines is getting thicker and thicker, she's had this problem for 8 years now, since 2000, and it's getting worse; she can feel the mucus rolling around in her abdomen and its extremely uncomfortable and most of the time it feels extremely hot, and this is worsening her insomnia because she's also got to cope with the horrible uncomfortable feelings in her gut as well as depression. She is in terribly poor health and most of the time she can't even get up out of bed.

Has anyone else heard of a case similar or have sort of a cure for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also, another thing, I heard that the "Master Cleanse" could help fix the problem, do you think that would work? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Cleanse

I've had mucus problems too, although not as bad as what you describe.

IMHO, the only way to get rid of mucus is fasting. I've tried everything else I can imagine, and nothing else has worked. But if she can literally feel a clump of mucus in her stomache, then it will probably take a really long fast to get rid of it all. A fasting retreat would be the best option. Find someone who is authorized to supervise a fast and send her there.

A very limited, low calorie diet might work over a long period of time. But if the intestinal tract is already blocked, a diet might take years to cure it.

Hmm... thanks. But; her health is terrible, how long should she fast for? Because if it's too long I'm not sure if her health will be able to cope with it.

Maybe look into colonics, p&b shakes.... worth a shot.

How is her diet. Mucus comes frow animal products. I find RAW takes care of that. I find Dairy is the WORST thing for mucus. If she is not RAW, try getting more into her diet. Hope things get better for her....The older you get....Your sleeping pattern can get HI-Jacked..............

What about oil pulling? You can find info at www.oilpulling.com... I always end up with a good amount of mucous coming out when I oil pull EXCEPT when I've been raw (with NO exception) for a month or two and oil pulling twice a day.

Otherwise, it always manages to pull some mucous. Ick.

Anywhere from twenty to forty days. The latter should be preferred.

If fasting is too dramatic, then a very limited diet is the next option. An extremely low-fat diet is recommended, including the elimination of ALL animal fat. This includes meat, cheese, and any processed foods containing animal fat as part of the ingredients. Animal fat is the number one instigator of mucus. It needs to be the first thing to lose.

The diet should focus very heavily on green vegetables, since they should help clear mucus. Also consider things like oatmeal, which will help pass any blockage in the intestines. Stay away from processed grains, the grains should be as whole and natural as possible. Nuts should be limited, since eating nuts with mucus problems can cause bowel obstruction. When not eating grains or greens, she should consume a wide variety of fruits.

Such a diet would help over time. But it would probably take a few months to see any real improvement, and much longer for a complete cure. Also, this diet would still be recommended even if she does decide to fast. If she has a tendency for mucus, then eating cheese or meats is going to cause it to build up again.

I would contact Dr. Joel Fuhrman. He has an excellent book on fasting and, I'll bet, has treated this condition before. Just google his name....

Definitely read Ehret. He spent many years researching mucus and how to eliminate it.

Do we have to buy the books? Can we get them for free anywhere online?

Just do a Google for "Mucusless Diet" and see what comes up. Most of the fasting doctors are old and gone, so you can find some of their stuff already posted.

For a really good book by Shelton on heal fasting, try here (http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020127shelton.III/020127.ch1.htm) (clicky (http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020127shelton.III/020127.ch1.htm))

No more dairy! My husband had mucus problems in his head and it would improve a little when he quit the dairy. He constantly spent time blowing his nose. We purchased a Kangen water system and it has detoxed and cleaned his head out. It is a high alkaline water that will detox and cleanse the body.
Go to www.kangenwatergirl.infoand watch the colon movie and you will see the horrid effects of a SAD diet. You'll never touch another piece of cheese again.

You can go on cleanse.net Dr. Rich Anderson's website and it has info about mucoid plaque and he has herbal cleanses to loosen up and get rid of that in the bowel at www.ariseandshine.com. He has 2 books that I have called Cleanse and Purify Thyself. It really has a lot of good info in it. I want to do his cleanse soon as well because the mucoid plaque is what stick to the lining of your bowel tract which prevents nutrients from passing through and it is also hard to get off your bowel tract without the proper herbs and combinations. Try looking on his website.

Sorry, mucus does not come from animal products. They can produce mucus because they irritate, but the main cause of mucus is damage. There are many reasons for damage to the intestinal tract, food allergies, yeast overgrowth, autoimmune diseases etc. are all possible causes.

I was vegan for years and HIGHLY damaged with excessive mucus because of celiac disease. My body continued to produce mucus to defend and protect itself. That is the only reason a body would.

We are all individual with different needs, but we need to realize that everybody responds to differently to diet. Raw vegan did absolutely nothing for me in terms of mucus.

Is she seeing anyone to help her with this? I would seek out a professional to find out what can be done. colonics can be severely damaging to someone in an acute inflammatory response, as can fasting. Be sure not to embark on anything blindly. It is important to be well informed.

I'm not providing medical advice, but has she tried juicing? Mucus is one of the signs of an overly acidic body. Generally you'll find it in the colon and lungs, but if it's reached her stomach that sounds pretty serious to me. Can she work with a homeopath or naturopath. I would be really reluctant to recommend she try the master cleanse, water fasting or juice fasting on her own for example. I know you already know this, but there has to be something that is causing this condition. Either something that is isolated, a food she's eating or simply she's experiencing continuous detoxification as her body heals.

What is her diet like? Who is treating her? What has she tried as a remedy?

Some things that do come to mind are eating digestion friendly foods like ginger root, tumeric, lemons and giving her digestive system a rest. But fasting is not for everyone. I do think the master cleanse would definately help, but just concerned if she's never done it before and she experiences problems could make it worse.

Wheatgrass is a huge healer. Drinking a few oz of wheatgrass juice daily I think would be wonderful for her.

Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) - a few drops in water daily may also help turn this around.

Just some suggestions. I do hope she feels better and that you get lots of good advice and recommendations.

Blessings,
Crystal

Acupuncture is something that just popped into my mind. Have her see an acupunturist to balance the meridians in her body -- I think this may be the ticket. :)

Best wishes!

Oh you know what? I was looking at Cinderalla's thread and responded to this one by mistake. Didn't realize there were already suggestions provided.
