Cleaning a Cloudy Vitamix jar?

Hey...

Anyone know how to get rid of that ugly cloudyness when cleaning your Vitamix jars? I just finished cleaning it, and its all cloudy,... I hate that. Argh! Any tips?

They may put me in Vitamix jail for this but a family friend told me he puts his in the dishwasher. I was shocked but tried it (said a prayer and pulled it out beginning of the drying cycle) with no ill effects and it is shiny new looking.

Only did it twice because of ground in powder I couldn't get out any other way.

Just my experience, I'm not recommending it!

Do you clean it immediately after blending?? I find that helps a lot for me.

uh, oh, I put mine in the dishwasher almost every day...at the end of the day, after using it for several green smoothies and rinsing in between. Is the water too hot, then?

btw, my containers are a little cloudy too despite all that washing (or because of it?) but my vitamix is also ten years old

The original containers look like crap after so long. I just gave up on mine and bought a new one. It is sooooo purdy. I use the new one(s) for teaching classes and keep the old one ('about 12 years) for me.

New ones have new covers as well but have to be purchased separately. They are SO much easier to get on/off.

After a year of trying everything, FINALLY a cleaning regiment that works on the vitamix container! I emailed Vitamix about how bad it gets, asking if they are ever going to get a glass container, and here is the info I got from rep Matt Heffner: I would highly recommend using a product called Clorox Cleanup which you can find in a spray bottle in any store’s cleaning section. It is highly effective at removing any film or cloudiness on the container. Simply spray it on the container and let sit for about 5 minutes. Then use a soft pot scrubber on the inside of the container. You can then clean the container as you normally would. Hopin' my before and after photos got attached. 935809359

Just a note regarding putting blender containers in a dishwasher:


remember that a decent quality blender container will contain a ballrace / ballbearing in the base of the container, within which the blade shaft rotates. These ballraces are manufactured with a steel or silicone seal, in order to limit egress of lubricant and ingress of fluid. However, if placed in the very challenging environment of a dishwasher with significant heat and harsh detergents, there is a very high probability that the seal will eventually begin to break down. This could lead to rust and therefore to the ballrace seizing-up, either before blending, or (even worse) during blending.

This could be very dangerous.

3-horsepower, at 37,000 RPM, suddenly brought to an instantaneous halt is a massive amount of kinetic energy that must be dissipated somehow. Under such circumstances, one might get lucky and simply damage the ballrace seat, but potentially it could be much, much worse. Now, I will give credit to Vitamix for building their blending containers with a cast metal housing for the ballrace, and this does significantly increase both safety and longevity, but still, the energy of 3-hp, at 37,000 RPM, being instantaneously stopped is enormous and must be dissipated somehow. It is therefore Russian roulette as to how such a scenario might play out, notwithstanding the fact that I trust Vitamix have taken 'reasonable precautions' to minimise danger in such an event.


In conclusion, far be it for me to dictate what anyone does with their Vitamix, but I would strongly suggest that anyone using a dishwasher to clean their blending container seriously consider the potential risks.

Chlorox spray sounds like a much safer option to me.

As I'm sure everyone knows, it's also much more efficient to clean the container immediately after use.

We used to use the Chlorox sprays, and switched to warm salt water. It's a trick my dad taught me during my coffee drinking days and keeps our glass shiny and pretty. :)
