My 2 year old is nursing like a newborn again since I started my raw foods diet. I became vegan over the last month, and since last week I have started on the raw foods diet- now my 2 year old wants the numies ALL THE TIME.

I feel great on the diet! But I noticed that I don't need to eat as much as before because I am juicing and drinking green smoothies- maybe not enough green smoothies? How much should I be drinking? I feel like I am getting all the nutrients my body needs, but maybe my calorie intake has gone down drastically? Am I making less milk? I'm not that worried because - well she's 2, but she seems to be nurisng much more often than before! She used to nurse just once at nap and then during the night a few times (I don't really know since I am asleep), and now she wants her numies everytime I sit down!

I 'feel' much more empty too. Any advice?

So many babies/toddlers get their nutrition from dead devitamilized foods and your baby is getting the real thing.
GREAT MOM!!!!!!

Congratulations. I still give my milk to my 2 1/2 year old daughter but i pumped my milk.

After i gave birth, i was eating organic cook food. At the time, brown rice would increase my milk. When my daughter was 15 months, i went 100% raw. First to have the energy that i had when i was raw before and also my daughter didn't want to eat any cook food. Now, the greens seem to be the food to increase my milk and heavy protein such from hemps seeds, or nut, or any seeds. Now, i went back making exception eating cook brown rice, and strangely it did decrease my milk. I am back on 100% raw and my milk is back up.

So my say, is to follow your body and don't necessary force yourself to eat but eat when you are hungry. You can also consider to supplement, such B12, angstrom sized mineral, etc... I do supplement sometime or take e3live.

You are doing a very good thing for your child.

Congratulations

I am still nursing my 2 1/2 year old twins along with my 6 month old and my twins have wanted to nurse all the time lately too. I think it has more to do with the stage of development they are in rather than me being raw. All 3 are doing great and I must have enough milk because my 6 month old is 19 pounds!!

Thank you. Lately I have been eating lot of green smoothies and a salad every day. I plan to start juicing again today. The juicing takes more time so I usually get lazy and don't do it. I use the juicing to get in my veggies. A book I read said that when she was raw and nursing she had to up her greens in order for her baby to do well so I am really trying to eat a balanced diet. I try to throw sprouts on every salad to be sure I am getting enough protien for all of us. My iron is higher than it ever has been so I know I am doing ok. my biggest problem with nursing is that I am having surgery next week and mt body doesn't respond well to pumping. I have to build up a supply of milk for my 6 month old and I am really hoping I can do it. The idea of giving her formula turns my stomach. :(

My son who is 2 yrs and 4 months likes to nurse a lot too and I think it has to do with the stage of developments he is at and not me being raw.

I am so happy I read this thread! I am new to the board and have not begun raw eating - but ordered alissa's book and a juicer. I am 46 yo and have a 2 and a half year old. He is a surprise - my eldest is 18. :)
Anyway- He also would nurse at every opportunity and I am sooooooooo happy to find other mom's nursing toddlers! I get so much grief from family and dentist/docs. I only nurse him at night - he tells me he is not too big to nursy - he is little. I do not have the heart to stop- since he loves it so.
Kindermama- could be developmental or just that she loves the taste of your new veggie milk!
I just hope I can wean him before kindergarten! LOL
So glad to know that I am not the only mom to continue nursing a toddler.

I'm with the others - I used to be a LaLeche League leader in MN and it sounds like your little one is going through a growth spurt - hang in there - you're doing great - this will pass. She will get her fill, do her growing, and then things will slow down again - until the next spurt, anyway ;)

Keep yourself well fed and hydrated - that kiddo is getting the perfect food her body was designed to have!
