I heard everyone rave about Alessa's lasagna when I first got her book. So I decided to try it . . . . I found it absolutely revolting :( I actually had to throw out the entire pan. This was over a year ago.

I knew that I wanted to try again, because I knew that it was the macadamia nuts that I found to be so horrid . . . that and the summer sauce.

So, today I whipped up a batch of the lasagna with cashews substituting the macadamias and a double batch of marinara sauce instead of using the summer tomato sauce.

I really think this is going to be quite good :) I'll know by dinner tomorrow :D

I guess I just posted this to let people know that even if you hate a recipe the first time, evaluate what it is about the food that you don't like - then see if you can replace, or even leave out the ingredient(s).

You never know, you may love it . . . or come up with something completely different and twice as wonderful.

Never give up :D

That's a good point. Also, I think the tastebuds change. I've made a few things from Alissa's book that taste horrible to me but I'll try them again in another month or two.

I hope you enjoy your lasagna!

I have stated before that I hated all the recipes I tried in the beginning. I didnt even like almond milk. The times have changed......I love most all raw foods now, of course this is over 2 years later. I noticed about 3-4 months into eating raw that I began to like lots of things that I didnt like at first. I went thru a phase of loving recipes, some dehydrated, some not, but then I began to like eating more simple things like salads and fruits. I still love an occasional dessert recipe and nut pates. I rarely dehydrate anything anymore other than some dried fruit or warming some stuff in the winter. Good luck with your lasagna this time!!! Let us know the results.

I am assuming the marinara is the same recipe that was demonstrated in the class I took (level I of Alissa's). I really loved the marinara and now with summer coming and fresh garden tomatoes....yum yum! I plan on making this. I will probably just serve it with the zuchinni like in the class, as I do not have a dehydrator. But the marinara was really yummy.

PS--I LOVE tomatoes. I have 8 plants in the ground as we speak;)

I also love her marinara sauce (yummy!)

I plan on making the zucchini in the marinade(noodles) because that was really good by itself.

Everyone get out your rolled up newspapers and prepare to smack me on the nose. :o

I've discovered that I actually DO like Macadamia nuts - raw ones are delicious. After popping one of these beauties into my mouth, I remembered that back when I made the lasagna the first time - the HFS was out of macadamias. So I had to resort to buying the cooked and salted ones from the local grocery store - they tasted COMPLETELY different from raw yummy ones.

Stupid, stupid me LoL

I gave the nuts a try again because I wanted to try out Alissa's crepes - never had them before and they looked oh so tempting .

THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!

I will definitely be making these again - Macadamias and all :D

I made her lasagna a few weeks ago and my whole SAD family loved it. I plan on having it available to guests at our wedding reception. I only did the one sauce and doubled it like she suggests as a possibility. It was delish!!! I didn't dehydrate it as long as she said...maybe only 6 hours or so. My partner said it could've been softer but aside from that was lovely. Even my picky daughter who usually won't eat foods that are "mixed together" loved it.

I've got some in the dehydrator, made it up last night and it'll be ready for dinner tonight. That's funny right there!

got my fingers crossed! I've really been on a roll with good recipes lately.

I'll report back! The only thing I changed in the recipe was less garlic.............. if I ever meet Alissa, she'll probably have radiant beauty and garlic breath.

I've been wanting to make Alissa's lasagna but I don't have a dehydrator that works (yet). Has anyone tried the pesto lasagna recipe? I'm thinking of making that instead for my birthday since it doesn't require a dehydrator.

How about a solar oven? It seems like it could be easy enough to keep the temp down with one of those down.

Hello

That's is a good recipe!! That was heavenly!! I ate three generous-sized pieces.:) My hats off to you Alissa; that's a great recipe book. It was so nice to come home to a gourmet meal in they dehydrator and serve my open-minded boyfriend something so delicious. :p

p.s. My boyfriend is an acupuncturist whose training taught him raw food is unhealthy. This is how we convert them to our side!
