I made Matt Amsden's Eggless Egg Salad this a.m. and love it btw! (Although I learned from previous experience to "tweak" it first.) But when doing the first part in the vitamix, it made so much noise that I was afraid it was broken. All I had in there was the first part of the recipe - water, garlic, lemon juice, salt, tumeric and cashews (forget what else). Why would that be so difficult for it to pulverize? It did the job perfectly and it is still working wonderfully, but I was worried about the loud noise (like it's laboring very hard) and wondered if any of you have had this experience. It happened when I was grinding up almonds to make almond butter once. Thanks for listening.

It just works better with LOTs of Liquid. Some times I will take it off.....Stir it and put it back again.

Blenders, (VM's and BT's included) work well with liquids. Food processors work better with drier, thicker ingredients.

Thank you spicyfull and Revvell. I did add quite a bit more water today. I should have known. I just figured that if it could pulverize stems (thick ones) it could mix up the cashews and stuff for the eggless egg salad. Will know better from now on.

It may simply have been the cashews hitting against the sides. When I have almost only nuts in the food processor it's very loud as they all smash against the sides until they are broken down to small peices.
