What are some good stories about or by people whose health got better from being raw?
I know about: Here on Alissa's homepage, the journals on this forum, the Boutenkos stories as told in their books, the success stories in Alissa's book, Paul Nisan's story, and these two websites:
What others are there? Where are they located?

I know of a video recording I got from the library last year called Uncooking: The Elizabeth Baker Story. She's an older woman, born I think 1913, who overcame Addison's Disease in her later years after starting and maintaining a raw diet. From what I remember she spent a lot of years unable to go out and get up and around because of Addison's Disease. She also overcame cancer?
I don't remember all the exact details. I remember the tape though she also shares some simple recipes in the video. Very spunky girl. Check it out.

http://aliveandraw.com/carter.html - woman cured of diabetes and extreme obesity, etc.
http://eatfreshfood.com/_wsn/page2.html - mother and daughter both got healthier eating raw; daughter (grown, not a little girl) had juvenille diabetes and after eating raw, got off insulin
If/when I think of more, I'll come back!

Brenda Cobb's story
In searching for a possible local group in my area for raw foods, I stumbled on The Raw Artist's website. She is in my town, I drive by her gallery when I go to work. I never made the connection of Raw foods to her name. I contacted her via email...it's nice knowing there is another raw foodist in my town. She can relate to my difficulty in finding organic produce and other things.

How great is that, Jodi! Seriously ... I felt so drawn to putting her link down, but I didn't know why. Now I do! I hope she ends up being a resource for you. I feel like I know her from her blog-type sharing on her website(s); she seems like a very down-to-earth person.

this is my story, I will enclose pictures at some stage, have them at home, but they are quite impressive.
I started the raw food diet becuase it was the only thing that worked. I tried everything, but lets start from the beginning.
I was a very healthy child, growing up in communist Poland-where there was literally NO PROCESSED FOODS, as there was no such things in the shops, . There were of course sweets, cakes and chocolates, but most of the other things were always made by mum from scratch, and there was plenty of fresh, almost organic veggies and fruit (the pesticiedes were not as common as in the West)-especially in the season. Anyway, when I turned 16, I noticed that my face started swelling in the morning after waking up, especially when I has an infection. It was not that bad, but I turned vegetarian about 3, 4 moths afterwards. I stopped eating any processed foods, but still had some dairy. Gradually, something very strange started happenning to my health-swelling became more and more intense, and I basically felt bad after eating. I did not know what it was, but I definitely discovered that eating, even the healthy foods that I was having all the time, made me sick!!!!!!!!! I even went to hospital, they did all the tests, but nothing came out, and everybody thought that I had anorexic tendencies!!!
This was not true, and I felt frustrated , as nobody believed me. The only thing left for me-was to eat less. There were times that I really lost lots of weight-because that was the only way not to make me feel swollen and paralysed. That is the good word-I felt like some strange toxins were circulating in my body after eating, and I just felt a bit paralysed, could not do things, and sat there all day -at 18 yrs old!!!! Then I discovered that sport made me feel better-probably because it was burning off the toxins quicker, so I started exercising a lot, and that was the only way I could eat more and feel quite OK. Unfortunately it lasted only a year-my strange condition deteriorated, and suddenly I started having bleeding exema on my fingers and being bloated so much, that my face was completely distorted.
Then I said to myself-there must be somtehing I can do about that, this is not normal. I started researching on the internet and I found.... MACROBIOTICS-went to the first workshop in Warsaw. So I became macrobiotic, went to several workshops in Holland as well, and for about two years I was trying to get out of my terrbile condition. It helped a bit at the beginning, and I definitely felt better without the dairy, but....., somehow after two years I felt worse in some other ways. I was in Germany at that time, when I decided to fast. I thought that is the only way that could help me. So after 17 days of almost water fasting (that was hard!!!!) I wanted to come back to my cooked rice, veggies, ......and I JUST COULD NOT!!!!!!!!My instinct drove me to the fresh veg and fruit area in the supermarket-and I basically attacked honeydew melon, I did not know why at that time, so, having a very academic nature, I rushed to the internet and ...discovered the raw food nutrition. I started immdiately, AND...........after a week MY EXEMA WAS GONE !!!!!!!!!!-and I had it before for 3 years!!!, my face started getting back into shape, and I felt so fantastic, as I had not for the previous 6 years, I just felt like when I was a healthy child!!!!
That is basically my story, the first two years were a bit hard, as the emotional cravings for cooked food came now and agian, but every time I tried cooked (it happened about once in 3 months for a day or two) I felt terrible, so I KNEW there was not way back for me. Here I am now, 5, 5 years, feeling fantastic, having so much energy that I decided to do a 4th degree-this time in Nutritional Medicine, SO THAT I CAN HELP PEOPLE in the future.
Have RAW FUN, and dont hesitate asking me when you are stuck!!!
Lots of love

Gosia, that is a truly inspiring story. I am so happy that you have healed yourself and you have embraced your calling to help others.
It is amazing how a difficult experience can turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
