Hello Raw Friends!
I am a 23 year old grad student and am in serious need of some health changes. For those of you who have been to college, you understand the hectic schedules we sometimes deal with. When I started my weight loss journey, I was 267 lbs (in August). Now, I am at 237 lbs., but my progress has been slowing down.

Fortunately, I am not ready to slow down. I want to be fit enough to do all the things I love, such as hiking, trail running, and rock climbing. So, yesterday I bought a smoothie blender, planning to just make my own smoothies once in awhile, no major changes. But when I was looking for recipes, I found this wonderful site.

I tried out a whacky smoothie of kale, spinach, mango, banana, apple, and strawberries. And it was delicious! I never knew eating raw fruits and veggies could be so easy.

So, now I am in a phase of transition which will look a little like the Raw Crunch diet. For breakfast and lunch, I will make a raw green smoothie. I will have two vegetarian (not necessarily raw) snacks (like wasa bread with hummus or a piece of cheese). In the evening, I will allow myself to have one normal meal (having lean meat only once or twice per week).

I know it isn't a 100% raw diet or even vegetarian, but I think even these changes from a typical american diet should really increase my health and I hope you all will support me!

Welcome!! I wish you the best of rawesome health!! Brava and you have my support:D. You don't have to go 100% raw - kudos to you for making these changes!!! Everyone finds what it right for them. While this board is raw vegan, there are members who are not 100%. The keepers just don't welcome discussions about things non-raw vegan on the forums. Blogs are pretty much free-on, tho.

I am normally high raw, and went from 267.5 in May of last year, to 185.6 here recently. I feel and look better than I have in all of my life. I'm 42 and get accused often of being anywhere from 18 to 28 years young.

Glad you found us!

Thanks for the welcome! And yes, you do look very young and healthy. Congrats to you!

My first day has gone really well. I had an awesome smoothie for breakfast with strawberry and spinach. For lunch, I had another smoothie of beet, celery, parsley, and cucumber which was suprisingly satisfying. I've had healthy snacks and a healthy, non-vegan dinner. I feel like this is not going to be too hard for me to follow.

Although, while my energy levels have sky rocketed, I do have a headache and am very sniffly as I think my body is going into detox. I am suprised to have a headache though, since the most common reason is caffeine withdrawl, and I don't drink caffeine.

Anyway, I am so excited and feel great that I am eating so many raw foods now.

Welcome! Congrats on your weight loss -- you will find over time that the more raw you incorporate, the more your body will start craving it and the weight will drop off. I remember the first time I added salad to a fruit smoothie - I couldn't believe how good it was - and then over time I really developed a taste for all veg green drinks. Good luck on your raw journey - we're here to support you!!:)
