Hi Everyone! I have started a raw foods diet since the beginning of this March. I just got Alissa's book and am reading it now. I will be starting on her 4 wk plan on Monday. I have some questions, I'm a diabetic who needs to lose weight so if I now eat Alissa's wonderful desserts which are full of dried fruits and raw fruits it will send my blood sugars thru the roof. What do I do to give myself some nice desserts without making my blood sugars go sky high? Right now i'm only having 1/2 an apple & lemon in my green smoothies everyday and that's the only fruit i'm having. I found when I added half fruit and have veggies in my smoothies that my blood sugars went sky high and i'm trying to keep them low and so far doing well. I need help with the diabetes part of eating. So, if anyone out there has or had the same problems as me can you please share your experiences with me. Also, since i do have the diabetes i'm finding that weight loss part really hard. I'm just not dropping the weight like i hear everyone else is. I have lost 6lbs since the beginning of March but nothing more has happened. It's very frustrating to me, even though i'm feeling much better and my blood chemistry is getting better. I have been overweight since 5th grade and i'm just sick and tired of it already. I would love to be whatever my normal weight is supposed to be. Help!

Hope you find the help you are looking for from someone who is diebietic. I do know that Fiber slows the sugar from rushing into your Blood Stream.....so I would add Powder Fiber to Foods that spike your levels.
About the weight loss............Chill, stop obsessing over it. Slip into the RAW LifeStyle, look at all the thing you said are happening inside your Body. You said 1. you feel better 2. your Blood Chemistry has improved 3. you have been batteling this since 5th Grade......Don't tell me you are in 6th Grade.
Your Body is working as it should. Its working from the inside out. So you keep doing what you are doing and soon you will be posting the "Before and After" pictures. You might be losing inches. How long has it been since you were in the 5th Grade?
How often do you exercise? Build Muscle because Muscle BURNS FAT. You forgot to tell us about your HEALTHY GLOW....
I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW...........Welcome to MY World.

Your new best friends are agave and coconut oil and cinnamon....agave will not spike your blood sugar as honey or other sweeteners will, but is still amazingly sweet. I don't even have diabetes and I notice that sometimes dates and honey spike me over the edge, so agave has been my constant replacement for the sweet taste in recipes. try adding extra cinnamon in your banana smoothies or raw oatmeal or gRAWnola. coconut oil helps stabilize thyroid and pancreatic activity over time. make sure it is a PURE, QUALITY coconut oil. Alissa has it for sale on her website. take a tsp.-tbsp. before meals.
Also - you may want to check out this new documentary on diabetes and raw food (http://www.rawfor30days.com/Site/Home.html). It is about reversing insulin-dependent diabetes in 30 days with a raw diet. As in reversing entirely! Watch the trailer.
There is definitely hope!!! Try to stay raw and tune in to what your body needs and know that there will be ebbs and flows to the transition process, as well as minor disasters with new recipe attempts (ever try portabello and cinnamon soup? i did by accident and it was disgusting!)- but if you stick with it and don't be too rigid with yourself, you will definitely see positive results!!
