I have just discovered that I have dermatitis herpetiformis(DH), which is in basic terms a rash that people with celiac get. I have also learned that all people that have DH, are celiac. But....not all celiacs have DH.
My question is for those of you with DH that eat 100% raw, how long did it take for your rash to be gone? It is so itchy I can hardly sleep at night. During that day it doesn't seem so itchy. Any foods like nut or salt that I should avoid? I read on a DH forum that those may aggravate the DH. They also said that it could take up to a year until your are symptom free. What have you all experienced.
I certain that this came about because I was tasting a bit of my husbands pizza here and a taste of cookie there...you get the picture. Not big meals of wheat, but lots of tastes lately.
Please respond as I am desperate to hear other successes

Thanks lafsalot!! I had read that before posting. They are a wealth of information, but I was wondering how long after going raw has the rash (DH) gone away. I am doing mostly juices right now. All kinds. Hoping that I can get a jump start on cleaning and clearing everything out. I guess there are meds, but they are pretty toxic and they aren't for me. If anyone has any advice or experience I would appreciate it.

Make sure you are not using any gluten externally. It can be in shampoos, lotions, makeup, etc. It is even in Natracare menstrual pads.

Thanks for the suggestion of not using anything external that has gluten in it!! My only questionable product is Dr. Bronners soap which has hemp in it. I only use that on my hands. We put it in the foam pump. I say that hemp is questionable because I used their chapstick once and my lip and slightly above them broke out in about a zillion tiny blisters. The hemp was the only ingredient that had been different from what I had been using. Even then I wasn't sure if that was the culprit so I used it again once and yup the blisters came back. I called the company and of course they said they have never heard of that before. No calls with that kind of reaction. Now I just use the chapstick my sister makes for me. That way I know what is in them.
Any other suggestion/words of advice/comments would be greatly appreciated.

It's possible that you have a hemp allergy as well. I'm not sure that is an allergen that is commonly tested for.
I am allergic to almonds and I get a rash if I use anything with sweet almond oil in it.
Daughter is allergic to wheat, gluten, soy and other things and I have to be careful not to buy any shampoos or lotions, etc. with that stuff in it or she gets a rash.

So does that mean that I shouldn't make my husbands sandwiches? Or touch anything without gloves on? He eats a SAD diet.

Yup, that was what I was thinking too. Raw is the way. How can you trust any other food? To make matters worse iodine makes the rash itch more.

Since finding out I have only done juices in hopes that it will start the rash to heal quicker and stop the intense itching. Yesterday it was better until I ate something with salt. YIKES!!!
