Shelf life for nuts?

Can anyone tell me how long nuts last before going rancid/bad? I have a bag of mixed (in the shell) nuts that I think are over a year old, maybe more! I found them when clearing out a pantry of my soon-to-be ex's SAD food. I don't know how my nuts ended up there, but that's besides the point.

Why not try cracking one to see how the flavor is. I guess you know you can also Freeze them, I know you said they took a walk on the wild side or other side and got lost.

How do they smell?

Problem is I can't smell them nor taste them at present. My nose is broken and my mouth is wired shut (amongst other injuries from an accident 6 weeks ago).

I guess I'll just hold onto them and find out later. :)

That would depend on how you've stored them. You say in the pantry? I'd toss 'em. Maybe crack some open and see there are worms in them? or, have someone else come over and smell your nuts? < g >

I keep mine in the fridge, if not the freezer.

Ummm, so when do you unwire so you can talk to us and smell your nuts?
