I'm reintroducing myself. Been gone for a long time.

My husband & I were a raw foodist for a couple years happy in the 80's.

Though my husband and I did well on raw foods our children weren't thriving. Back then there weren't many people who had experience with raising children raw.

So on advice from our doctor we added a few cooked foods and slipped further away from raw each year until we became a vegans with bad habits. I have to admit that this past year I have started allowing dairy to creep back into our lives. This frightens me.

My health is getting worse each year that passes. Getting old sucks. I would be acting against my best interests if I don't make changes now in my late 40's, before I get older and have more health problems.

I have just recovered from a month of bronchitis and realized that I need to do something smart about my health for a change. I am overweight, ache all over, have allergies and depression.

I am in transition right now and plan on switching to %100 when my new food processor arrives. (hopefully soon) I am trying to take it easy so I don't go through a huge cleanse, as I can't afford to miss any more work.

My husband is also going raw. He has health issues and is on three different medications. He wants to get off of all of them.

We both want a healthier more simple life. We are putting in a garden and walk to do our shopping.

There is a small and inactive group of people here in Utah who are experimenting with raw foods but no real community. I am glad there are places like this were people can find support!

Hello! I found raw foods while living in Utah. I grew up and was raised there. You're right though, it was a struggle. People looked at me weird too when I explained to them what I was doing.

My husband and I have been living in San Francisco for the past year or so, and raw foods is totally normal here. Anyway, I just want to welcome you and let you know that I struggled being raw in Utah, but it can be done!

Anyway, welcome! I love Utah!

Welcome back! :-) I'm not sure how close you are to Salt Lake City, but there is a awesome resturant in Sugarhouse called Omar's Living Cuisine. I go there every chance I get!!!

Hey! I lived in SLC for 12 years, moved to ID 8 months ago. Omar's place is awesome! Make sure to go if you haven't. Also, in case you don't know Agi's Raw Food has gatherings once a month (at least they used to). If I remember right she has inexpensive classes once a month and they have potluck once a month. Also the website livingmom.net is done by a raw foodist and she lives in Happy Valley somewhere and she's very open to meeting people. Best wishes!

Not only is there Omars but there is Ogi's place in Provo/Orem area. Also Gingers cafe, in Springville has several items on their menu that are raw. You will be very surprised at how many raw foodists there are in Utah now as compared to back in the 80's. There's groups in about every community. Personally, I don't attend them but I've been tempted. Salt Lake area, Provo/Orem area, Park City/Heber City area. Call some of the health food store and ask about it. Good Luck and be sure to get Alissa's book and DVD, you and your husband will LOVE them.
