Hi to everyone, I am new here :)

I live in Finland and will be moving to Barcelona, Spain in September 08. I am in my late 20's and just recently streted to eat raw (almost raw anyway).

I actually became interested in how food affects the body and mind very early in life, but it wasnt until I was in my earley 20's and was pregnant and lived in New York that I started thinking a lot about what I put in my mouth and why. Back then I ate 80% organic and did have meat once in a while. I started studying more about natural health and read lots of books, had my baby and continued to read. I stopped buying meat, except for wild salmon.

And now 6 years later I checked out some health related videos on YouTube and came across something about Raw Food. I started researching the raw food diet and I am now in "transition". The foods I feel that are (for me) hardest to give up are: oatmeal, yoghurt and my raw salmon.

I dont have any raw food cooking books yet, (will see if I can get Alissa's here in Finland somewhere) so its not easy to know how to prepare the food, or what tastes good with what. My first smoothie didnt really taste good at all actually.. I put in greens, carrots and lemon..but it was really not very tasty.. Now I have been experimenting a lot and kind of found some things that work for me.. I think. I love anything with blueberries in it, and orange mixed with greens is good too.

I have never eaten a very unhealthy diet and for the last few years I have been very careful getting all minerals and vitamins (from food not supplements) that I need each day, so now I am still researching on how much seeds and nuts (like for example sunflower, pumpkin seeds and brazil nuts) that I need to eat per day on a raw food diet to for example get enough zink, phosphorous, selenium.. I know it takes a while to develop deficiencies, but I would not want to even be half way of developing one.

Getting my son to eat raw will be another challenge. I will post something about that later, maybe I can get some ideas from you guys on that :)

I really hope you'll find Alissa's book and DVD, they will answer all your questions. I really do feel like you need to have some education on what your doing so like you said you'll be getting the nutrition your body needs. The raw food diet isn't that complicated but it is important to be educated. Good Luck and WELCOME!
