Hi,

I have toenail fungus and have been reading different things about fungus and mold in your body being caused by having a "too acidic body". I am reading the Ph Miracle book about this now. I also saw Patricia Bragg's site where she recommended drinking Apple Cider Vinegar 3 x a day.

I did this for 2 days and felt pretty good actually when I then remembered apple cider vinegar is an "avoid" on the Blood Type Diet I also try to follow. I have been eating mostly raw foods for almost 3 years. I will eat sprouted or other living foods, but no processed sugars. However, I do get sugars in fruit, agave and honey. I don't eat white flour nor the things that the blood type diet says are avoids for me unless it's like curry and jalepenos. I can't help it.

So, for me, the more I know the more confused I get....you know, trying to combine the best from all these "diets", but I guess I'm wanting to know if anyone follows Patricia Bragg's recommended apple cider vinegar 3x a day and her fasting one day a week (I thought I may try this too)? And, has anyone doing this seen any improvement in toenail fungus? What about any other improvement in anything due to the apple cider vinegar??

And, just curious, if you improved....what's your blood type?

Also, anyone follow the Ph Miracle way of eating? I'm paying more attention to trying to make green smoothies with mostly veggies using cucumbers, celery, lettuce etc. instead of so much fruit. The Ph Miracle things any sugar is bad for fungus and mold and says fruit should be limited. Hmmmm.....

THANKS SO MUCH!!!
Leigh...just trying to find my way through all this.

I follow the keep it simple approach and just follow my nose listening to the best coach anywhere - my body. Good luck.

There's a lot of ph talk out there, some is contradictory and much is confusing.

The thing to remember is that acidic outside of the body isn't necessarily acidic in function inside of the body. Example, lemons are very acidic, but have an alkilinizing effect upon the body.

The tool for measuring that I most trust is PRAL - Potential renal acid load. A guy (Burgess Laughlin) over on Dr. McDougall's board talks about his own experiences with the issue of acid / alkiline. He's not raw, and neither is the board, but I believe raw and alkiline is completely do-able, in fact, alkiline is more easily accomplished by raw than any other way.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I think trying to get more alkaline and raw is totally workable also. In fact, in the pH Miracle he talks a lot about choosing raw over cooked, etc. He focuses on a lot of green vegetables (hence I'm back into green smoothies again for breakfast) and says to not overdo the fruits. I had read Victoria Boutenko's book "Green for Life" sometime ago and cracked it back open to see what she said about fungus, etc. It was in her book she referenced the pH Miracle. I know I need to listen to my body, but at times I can't tell what is my body and what is my head. But, I'll keep trying. :)

The reading I've done on PRAL doesn't agree with that. Fruits are safe from the stats I've read.

Put the vinegar ON your nails. I cleared one foot by doing this. You can either soak your feet in the vinegar and some water, or do what I did. I used straight vinegar on cotton pads. I put my feet up so the cotton pads wouldn't fall off. I did this every night.

I also used a moisturizing cream with urea in it. Doesn't matter what brand. I get the cheapest I can find. But it needs the urea because it's an antifungal. Put that on your nails morning and night.

I also used a treatment from Dr. Scholl's but I don't think they make it any more. It was mainly a bleaching cream that came with a nail brush. I think the brush was the most important part. Scrub your nails a couple of times a week with the brush.

Also, keep your nails clipped/filed as short as possible.

It will take a few months for the fungal part of the nails to grow out and the new nail to grow in. Don't be surprised if chunks of the nail break off or the nail peels. Some people have even reported that the whole nail sort of fell off and a new one grew in.

Okay to wear nail polish when doing these treatments? I wear sandals all the time, and my nails need the coverup, too unsightly!!

Never put nail polish over fungal nails. And if you have used it on fungal nails, you need to throw it out because you've infected it.

That is interesting to know that once you use nail polish on fungal nails the polish is no longer good. That makes sense though. Thank you for telling us that :)

If you want to try a bit of a weird therapy have a look at this page.

I tried it on someone who had fungal nails for 4 years and within a month you could see the improvement where new nail had started to grow at the base.

it's rather strange and based on energy therapy. I have no idea how it works but have a look anyway!

You may want to look into the Body Ecology Diet and adapt it totally raw.

if you know the apple cider vinegar you can use that to prevent fungal infections. You may use the apple cider on your salad or it can be a refreshing drink . :)
