I discovered Raw from books checked out from the library late last year. YEARS ago, I went vegetarian for 5 years (wanted to eat more veggies so in order to force myself to, I dumped all meat and fish), then slowly got back on SAD. I never imagined that I could become vegan, let alone raw until Jan 08.
My weight increased, got hypothryoid goiter (not on meds now) and basicaly been a miserable SAD person, especially from my stomach and allergies.
Then I got into YouTube and discovered Alissa. Discovered Revvel radio. Bought Alissa's book and tape. Discovered she made foods that I could make and see myself enjoying. Bought a dehydrator, spiral thing, a kicking blender, dusted off my never used food processor, bought more and more books. Started drinking green drinks, bought a lot of nuts and did a lot of raw in Jan.
Introduced my older sister to raw (she is also very interested in healthier living and had suffered a major ailment years ago) and now she has lost over 15 lbs and feeling healthier. We got my mother into drinking green drinks too. Unfortunately I slipped back to cooked foods and sweets and have gone back to suffering from stomach problems and increasing weight gain.
Since I know what raw did for me in the beginning and what I am missing now - felt great, my IBS stopped, no indigestion, needed less sleep, had energy and loved the uncooking and eating of the foods - I want it again.
I think I hit bottom. I am tired and unhappy. :( While at home, recovering from an asthma attack 2 days ago, I realize AGAIN that if I don't change, nothing will change. I don't want to spend my later years with having to take tons of pills like my parents and have diabeties and stroke and high blood pressure and cancer. I know I could get something but I don't want to have never tried.
So I have decided to go further than just read the posts. I am going to try to keep reading the posts, journal and participate for daily motivation. To motivate myself further, I plan to re watch Alissa's DVD and go thru her book and Victoria's terrific books and others out there. Will keep up with the viewing of the YouTube Raw people. Plan to dust off the juicer and get into juicing. I may be able to do the 30 day challenge one day.
I want to...NEED to lose this weight and FEEL and BE healthier. I can do this. Just have to keep reminding myself WHY I need to do this until it is ingrained and automatic.
Thank you all for your posts. They are very motivating and aspiring. :)
