My fabulous new Excalibur just arrived and now I find that my lovely boyfriend (only slight sarcasm, as he really is lovely, in most every way - I adore him!) is, uh, electricity challenged and will not allow me to run it when we are not home! (It's not the money, he thinks it's unsafe.)
So, my question isÂ…for something like the caramel coconut cookies that say Â’12 hours on each sideÂ’Â…can I take them out part way, refrigerate, then do the other side the next night? Has anyone tried anything like that?
It is unusual for us to be home for a 24hr period (particularly when the weather is so nice), so IÂ’m afraid I wonÂ’t be able to make things that take a long time. I figure once he sees how well it works and how safe it is heÂ’ll come around, but for a while heÂ’s going to stand his ground.
Any thoughts would be great!!!
Thanks!

Well, I can't answer your question on dehydrating part now, part later. But, you may want to relate to him that I am the Queen of paranoia. I keep everything in my kitchen unplugged unless I'm using it. Drives my hubby crazy. But, I was not worried about my Exalibur and have run it for 8 hours while I'm at work with no problem. I won't do that with my washer or dryer. I still unplug it when I'm not using it (just something I do), but for me to not be afraid to run it when I'm not home...that says something for the machine.

If he is as stubborn as I am, tho, you may not have much of a chance. I drive my hubby crazy with my unplugging things and not running things when not home!.

Thanks Jodi!!
LOL!!
He's not quite into unplugging everything, but when I moved in with him and wanted to run the water distiller during the day he was adamant. After a while I just tried it and he let it go. I think he has a natural distrust for machines he's not familiar with (he's been in the building/machine trade so knows a lot about them). Hopefully, after he gets used to it he'll give me a chance. I'll relate your story tho! Thanks!!!
:D

Some people run theirs 24/7; I personally run mine rarely yet, if I'm making something, I finish it ~ although, I see no problem doing it the way you are saying ~ except for time/effort involved.

How about writing to Whitney Verkade at whit@excaliburdehydrator.com. Maybe he can give your honey enough information about the dehydrator to put his fears to rest.
