View Full Version : Casaba melon. My new fruit of the week.
My mom and I took a drive to Meier's today to buy mainly produce. They have such a great selection and their organic area isn't too bad. I picked up from there some salad greens, peaches, raisens and apples. From the regular area I found Kale so I can make some green smoothies. I used spinach last week, but wasn't crazy about the taste. Kale is fairly cheap there! I bought a ton of other stuff as well. My fridge is packed with fresh produce right now. (hubby is going to die when he opens it)
They had a bin of melons I was unfamiliar with. Casaba melons. I bought one for 3.00.
Anyone familiar with them? Do I cut it like a watermelon? What the heck will it taste like? It's kind of squatty in shape and yellow.
Thanks, Jodi
.....hurry, someone reply before Revvell let's me know that I can get my answer by googling!.....hehehehehe ;)

Oh Jodi,
You do not know how much you have just made me laugh out loud. Yes, let it be cut like a watermelon, and eat enjoy. I do like mine a little chilled, but since I you are hurry. Throw the seeds away - you do not eat them.
Are we okay now.
Thanks, Sweet lips! Yep..I'm ok now! :D I cut it up and put it in a container. I did have a bite and it's pretty good. I'm going to chill the rest as you suggested. Kind of wished I'd bought two, but I also bought a whole watermelon so I'm set for melons for awhile.
Thanks so much!
Jodi
...going back to cleaning up my Casaba mess.....

You know I was under the impression that this was a RAW food support board, where people could come and ask questions, without fear of being reprimanded.
Personally, I would rather chat with someone who knows about a specific topic than to "google" it.
If I wanted to search on the internet for my answers, I would do that, but where is the personal interaction?
I mean I can look up casabah melon and find information, probably 10,000,0000 sites where I can buy it, see pics of it, but does anyone tell me that it tastes really good with fresh strawberry sauce, and how to make it?
Probably, but how many months will I have to read through the websites listed, before I find the answers?
Please feel free to ask all the questions you want, that is what this board is about, and why it is here.
It is a RAW food support board, where you can ask question, and receive answers, and you aren't supposed to have any challenges in doing that.
Look at the "Mission Statement" in the forums.
Please, don't feel like you will be reprimanded for asking questions.
I had tons of questions when I was new. And many more after us will too.
I say, let's keep this board for what it was intended.
A FRIENDLY PLACE WHERE ALL ARE WELCOME.

LOL :p Well glad I am not the only one who has challanges with some ppl giving one a hard time for asking questions ( as my beloved Gradnmother always said the only DUMB question is the one not asked when you dont know the awnser)
One of the reasons I enjoy this site is becauce there are many whom actualy know what they are talking about.
And there are lots of ideas on this LIFESTYLE ( hate the term diet).
I too have been a bit leary of posting questions as a few here seem to wana bash those of us whom are not 100% raw. At least we are trying to eat and live better and for each there is a diffrent path to total enlightment ( one day at a time for tommarow is a total new future).

Just for the record...I was just giving Revvell a little bit of a hard-time with my comment above. I really don't fear posting questions, I've just gotten to know her in the short time I've been here. And I think she and everyone else here are pretty cool people.
I have really grown to like this board and everyone who is here! I have been doubting as of late if I can truly become a raw-foodist, yet I keep returning here and reading all the time. So, I think deep inside it's something my body does want, even tho my mind hasn't acknowledged it yet. Does that make sense?
And, also...I'm not so sure I do like Casaba melon. I did at first, but I'm not liking the way it smells now. It's smell reminds me of something else, but I'm not sure what...and I really dont' like the smell.

I'm glad you spelled that out phonetically. I thought it was pronounced cas-bah, as in "Rock the...."

You know what's interesting is, there's some people who do what they call "instinctive" eating ~ they smell the food and if it smells good ~ at that time ~ they eat it. So, what might smell ummm, less than pleasant at this time may smell wonderful another time. Isn't it nice how our bodies will tell us what we "should" be eating after awhile?
Right now, we've got other melons, they are o.k..... yet, watermelon is my melon of choice at this time. Can eat it all day every day ~ now. :)
And Jodi, "I" knew you was funnin'. :D

And, I was joking too, just for the record....
This board is wonderful - full of amazing people who have already been there, people who are kind of there, on their way, or even people, like me, who WANT to go there, get there, and be there, but just can't seem to read the map as well as they should : )..... Or, their muscles are tired, or, they are just really good at making excuses! Or, more than that, they keep housesitting where there are $#$%^$ girl scout cookies. You can't throw out other people's food, even if they have offered it to you!!! I can choose not to buy something, and I am fine. But, if it's in front of me, I'm a has been!!

And, I appreciate those who pick up the defense of those they think may be getting whipped and flogged : )...... :o :D

Agreed! Agreed! I know I've asked 1,001 questions myself and always appreciated thoughtful responses.
