View Full Version : How hot does the Vita-mix get?

When I researched juicers, it was important to me to find a low-speed one. This summarizes why:

The high speeds heat up the juice and can cause damage to some of the perishable nutrients in the vegetables.

The Omega is a single gear machine that turns at a slow 80 RPM's to ensure that nothing is lost through heated elements in your juice. There is no wildly spinning basket or destructive, high-speed chopping blade. Therefore, heat and impact shock are virtually eliminated and oxidation is significantly reduced. The result? More of the delicate nutrients survive!
Now, I'm considering upgrading to a Vita-mix. But, the super-high speed scares me... why would I be so careful about the speed in my juicer, in order not to damage the enzymes and nutrients, then get a blender that whips the crap out of everything?

I put soup in for 5 minutes and it almost burned my mouth - it gets THAT hot

Yikes! Yes, I had read that it will get hot with longer blending times... definitely won't be doing that!

But I'm wondering if, even with a short blending time and even if the temperature doesn't exceed 115, just the sheer speed and power seems like it would be detrimental to the enzymes... I know so many raw foodists swear by their Vita-mixes but it seems so odd that we'd have to be so careful about rpm with our juicers than we blow that out of the water with our blenders. KWIM?

I'd be curious to know of specific lab tests that measure enzymes before and after high-speed Vita-mix blending. I'm sure Vita-mix devotees all feel that they're getting their full enzymes... I'm one of those weirdos who likes to see some research to back it up! :D

The Vita-Mix will heat your food, if YOU want it heated, therefore you MUST leave it there for a longer time for it to happen. It will not heat your Smoothie while you are making it..

I wish you could find one being demonstrated. I always see them at County Fairs but it is not Fair Season. You cal always call them and I'm sure they would let you know if something is going on in your area.

I'm extremely enjoying my vitamix and don't feel that's it's an issue. I blend my green smoothies and raw soups and pour them out of the container and eat them immediately and experience no heat.
The vitamix blender book that came with it warns to not overblend the food. I simply blend it for the minimum amount of time it takes to cream the ingredients without overdoing it. does not take long at all! Like a minute.

It's probably one of the best investments you'll ever make!
