Hey guys!
Well my husband is trying raw - a feat on its own since he hates (HATES) fruits and vegetables. He did 100% raw yesterday. He just drank juices all day and a huge green smoothie.
So I'm super happy and ecstatic and all, and it brought me to tears to see how proud I am of him, but now I feel like such a giant failure! I've been trying to go raw since august, failing miserably, and he just switches to 100% overnight?! lol
Please help me understand why I sabotage myself and tell myself I 'can't' do certain things when I know they are the best for me :)
Also - is there a test for allergies one can do at home?
Thank you,
May we all Forage in peace.

You can order allergy test kits online. They are very general though and include only the top inhalant and food allergies.

i wouldn't worry about why you tell yourself you cann't. everyone does that, so it's not something to be to upset at.
try instead on focusing on killer delish foods! seriously, don't try to go low calorie, ect in the begining....
make raw chocolate cakes and eat the whole thing in one night, make raw nut milk shakes and dip raw cookies in, then have a yummy pizza with raw cheese smeared all over.
find the best recipes, and seriously eat eat eat.
when ever i might fall back to eating some cooked food. i have no problem going 100% again by following this method.
after a month or less or more your body will tell you you need to eat lighter and it'll be soooo much easier as many of the addictions will be gone by then.
good luck

Now you can do it together and support each other! What a blessing, maybe you needed him to take the lead and you will follow. That's not such a bad thing. He will need your support on hard days too.

You know what, your post just hit me like a ton of bricks. Maybe that's why I couldn't make it. You're totally right. I felt so isolated and alone and it sucked to have french fries dangled in front of me. Maybe this is what was needed to make it work.

I understand.
It seems whenever we try so hard, the men in our lives get it done so much faster and easier.

There is a great ELISA test for either a few foods or hundreds. For the test to get a reaction you have to have eaten the foods you are being tested for int he last 2 weeks before the testing or you can get a false negative on a food you may well be allergic to, but haven't had recently. This is different than a skin prick test. This tests your blood to see if the food is causing antibody reactions.
Any lab will run a full 96 food IgG ELISA test for about $400. If you have a Dr and health insurance it's cheaper of course and they can do testing on the top 10-15 offenders which is waaaay less.
I have a friend who has been ill with fibromyalgia like symptoms and intestinal problems for ever...come to find she has a soy allergy. She doesn't even like soy but was trying to be a "good vegetarian". Another sick friend was allergic to peas and carrots! She's fine now. Well worth the testing...

:) 'm so glad it helped! My DH is starting to eat healthier too, which really helps at times when I'm feeling weak and hungry! If someone else is there to offer a salad instead of a bacon sandwich, it just may save you! :D

I know Alissa talks in her book about how men tend to have an easier time converting to raw. Probably has a lot to do with their 'just do it' mentality. They are less likely to over-analyze things and less likely to be emotional eaters. I think we women could learn a lot from them in this area!
I am very happy for you that your husband is a raw food 'convert', and there to support you!
