hello,
I'm Jeff
I am totally new to anything like this, i have been doing some hardcore reading about this juice fasting in the last day or so and decided i was going for it.
My reading was based on testimonials of others and i feel i have it in me to do this. I have talked my girlfriend (Erika) into doing it with me as well and we started 05/14/08 or well from the last meal i had on the 13'th.
I am sure i will need a ton of support through this being that i am a Chef/Owner of a small cafe that is converting to a pasta menu due to the economy. My girlfriend works with me as well so we will both be posting here as we progress through this.
The main concerns i have with this are possible hazards with jumping into it with out preparation. I used to smoke 3 packs of cigs a day and quit cold turkey (well unless i was at a bar drinking) about 10 years ago.so i do belive i have the will power to do this as well. I am doing this for the reasons of Detox and weight loss.
I just turned 37 on the 3rd of may and and i am 6'3" 240lbs which i know is not hugely overweight but it is none the less. most of which is in my mid section. just would like to lose 30 - 40 of it :)
It is now 1:22 am closing in on day 2 and if i am going about this wrong i would like to know so i can eat something :) i do feel full after drinking but i am using a vita-mix blender and drinking pulp. should i get a juicer? from most of the articles i have read and what i know about nutrition the nutrients are mostly in the skin and rinds of most Fruits and Vegetables. I do not want to suffer through this to the point it is noticeable to people due to the fact i speak with my customers a lot and don't want to be a turn off to newcomers. I will be doing the salt water flush upon waking and would like to know if i'm on the right track.
I also have a love for all foods worldwide and do not want to lose that and would like to be able to go back to my sampling of everything i come across. (in moderation)
I must get some sleep but will check in from the cafe in the am and update how things are going.
I want to say to all the people that are going through this right now GRATZ!!!! especially on the 92 day fast. that just seems crazy.

I want to thank you all in advance for any help you can offer via recipes / keeping me sane through this.

Jeff

Well sounds more like a green smoothie fast, I guess. What a great thing to do anyways. And the pulp will help with the fiber for pushing stuff through your body. That helps to not go through so much like headaches and the like.

Good luck!

And BTW, you are so lucky to have a partner in this journey! But be gentle with each other -- your emotions might get a little funky as you push the bad stuff out.

Yep

You do need a juicer... You can't eat at all, and pulp is chewable and digestable. It would help a lot.

However, if you have nut milk bag you can also remove the pulp easily.

Hope your business goes better!

Are you in Chicago? They are flaming us with taxes and they will flame us even more (sales 11.25% and food 3.25%) That's why I'm guessing.

hello again all,
mental note don't do a SWF with someone when there is only one toilet.
on the Up side i feel pretty good. Got the Jack Lalane Juicer yesterday evening after i closed up the shop. so had my first real juice for dinner. miner thoughts of hunger but not for normal foods, till i slept and ate some cupcakes in a dream. strange i never dream of food even being a chef. i guess it is a kinda fix to what i am missing
feeling a little strange and losing all desire to just lay around and play world of warcraft as i have been for the last 5 years. another good thing i actually have been thinking about walking to work(am i losing my mind) even though it is only 4 blocks away:) i know i'm lazy hehehe

Well tonight is the last open mic at the cafe so i have a long one i will return this evening with updates and to look for a joint fasting forum to join for support . see ya soon
Jeff

**Waves hello to Jeff**

It's so exciting to see another juicer on here!

Well today is Day 64 for me on my 90-day Juice Fast. Ooh, and I love WOW. :) And cooking for my large extended, not-raw family. So we might have a few things to discuss, lol :)

About being a chef and staying on a fast, I truly believe you can do this! Since I started my fast, I have been cooking like crazy, literally, I am cooking in almost every spare moment of my day. I have never enjoyed it this much before! I think not eating frees up a lot of creative energy for me, and I love to express it through cooking. I have a family that is not raw, and even so they can't eat faster than I can cook these days, lol. Seriously, I am knocking on friend's doors to give them extra pies. Just wait and see if the same thing happens to you! You might find you have more passion and get more enjoyment from your work than ever before!

Regarding the weight loss, being a guy you will likely lose that in record time on a fast. As of Day 64 for me, I have lost 37.5 pounds. Guys with higher metabolisms will lose it even quicker.

No, you don't need a juicer. I love mine, and it has been fabulous, but actually the best and quickest way to make juice is with a blender, then straining the blended juices through a nut mylk bag. You do NOT need the pulp. The nutrition of the food is not in the pulp, only the fiber is. The fiber locks up the nutrition, yes, but when you juice/blend you *break up* the fiber to release that nutrition into the juice. All you are missing by tossing the pulp is fiber. And you don't want that fiber on a fast, because you are giving your digestive system a rest. If you are just drinking blended foods your body will not benefit nearly as much.

Additionally, by drinking pulp you keep your digestion "revved up" and expecting food. If you can get through a few days on just juice, with no pulp at all, you will see a dramatic shift in your hunger, as your stomach gets accustomed to being empty and nourished on liquids only. But if you keep drinking pulp, you will likely continue to struggle with hunger.

You know, I dream about food almost nightly since I started my fast. And I'm always stuffing myself with pizza, or cookies, something like that. It's crazy. I don't worry about it anymore.

Completely off-topic, what server do you play on? Alliance or horde? Tell me about your characters! :D

I play on about a dozen servers, and I have at least 40 characters. But I usually only play one or two at a time, then switch around to something else. Because I can't stand to play any one thing for more than a few months - I get bored!

I don't have anything on Darkspear at the moment.

Current playlist is Eveleaf, on Draenor, level 70 holy priest raiding Kara, and Elivi, 33 tankadin on Emerald Dream...killing murlocs.

The Cafe is located in Hellertown PA, about an hour north of Philadelphia bordering Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton
it is a small town that is up and coming quickly and with the gas gouging and food cost hikes people are coming less often. so i am offering a lower cost menu in hopes to keep us afloat

Sorry for the delay on your answer::) lack of food has me in a haze:D

WOOT!!! I feel great this morning slept better then i have in a long time. other then the dream about doing my SWF on an airplane (not even going into details) but let me tell you it worked on the plane. Erika is doing very well on this i really thought she would have given up by day 2 but she is trooping along, she is here with me now as once again we embark on the Single toilet household and the duel SWF. wish us luck.
she is feeling good as well and sleeping well but that is probably
because i think i have stopped snoring. very strange. she is saying she is anxious to see how she feels after her monthly visitor is over cause she started this the day she got it.
We have been hardly able to sit down lately and my pulse has seemed to dropped to the 60's 70's for the first time in years i kinda think high blood pressure was coming on being i was steady over 100 most of the time.
Well got to get rdy for work will pop on from the cafe at my first lull today .. Gl all out there
DAY 4 I CAN'T BELIEVE IT if you knew my life style you would not either

hey again all,
Feeling great again... am i doing this right? i thought there was a period that i would go through that i would want to quit this. i am guessing i either have felt so lousy in the past that even this is an improvement or I'm doing something wrong.
in the middle of my SWF atm using 1 table spoon of Celtic sea salt and let me tell you it taste so much better then others i have tried.
Erika has been feeling tired and nauseous since last night. but no signs of her giving up yet. guess she just had a bad night.
well heading to the farmers market and WALKING. trust me i walk nowhere the cafe is 4 blocks away from my home and i still drive. sad i know. but i feel great and really want to continue the way i feel. see ya all soon\

Hi! I appreciate you sharing your experience!! I hope you are feeling GREAT!!!
Are you tired? I'm getting ready to juice fast and I'm a bit worried about my energy level as I work in a classroom of busy 3-5 year olds.

Hi! I appreciate you sharing your experience!! I hope you are feeling GREAT!!!
Are you tired? I'm getting ready to juice fast and I'm a bit worried about my energy level as I work in a classroom of busy 3-5 year olds.

To be honest i feel better then i have in many years,
I have not posted much info about my self but
I have a broken Xiphoid Process ( small bone at base of sternum )
benign tumor in my lower back from old injury
Hernia which i have yet to get checked out but being a Business owner/chef i have no insurance now :(
and Erika tells me that my snoring drives her insane
And now just 5 days in to this fast i no longer snore ( I guess she will stay around a bit longer now ) :)
my energy levels have doubled
and the best part for me is all my pain has subsided except a lil bit from the hernia that is now very mild and i no longer complain about it

I weighed myself just after the farmers market and i am now down 10 lbs loving it.

I say go for it. i know for me i have been lucky from what i have read about the side effects. i assume it has been smoother for be with the 1st 2 days juicing in a blender and drinking the pulp and then going straight juice i have next to no cravings but that might be because i knew i would be challenged in my work and just focused on my fast. when ever any hunger would come on i just take a sip of water and move on and believe me you will need to have a lot of water around due to being dehydrated. i have been compiling my weekly menu and items i have used to complete this and i am now looking to the possibility of going semi raw a lot of good recipes on this site
I wish you luck on this and would like to follow you through with it cause if it continues to go this well i may go longer then the 30 days.
keep us informed ;)
