I've been looking at some recipes on here and other places that calls for Nutritional Yeast, but when I go to my local health food store all I see is Brewer's Yeast. I look on google to find the difference between the two and all it says is the difference is how it's made. One is manufactured and the other is the by-product of brewing beer. So both are really manufactured. I want to know if it's ok to just buy the brewer's yeast even though it's a by-product of the beer industry. Is there a particular one I should buy? Please help. Thanks.

It is my understanding that brewer's yeast is more "dead" and less nutritious. Nutritional yeast is grown specifically for our use and supposedly dried at low temps, plus it's usually fortified with extra B's

Plus I think nutritional yeast tastes waaaaay better....I really have to stop myself from eating too much of it because it is just so good....

Well looking on the internet is says that brewer's yeast is more nutritional and has more chromium than nutritional yeast, but I don't like the idea of using brewer's yeast because it's a by product of the beer industry and I don't like beer anyway. Do you know any websites that I can purchase the nutritional yeast at? Because my local health food store only has brewer's yeast. Thanks.

Red Star Nutritional Yeast says that it's pasteurized, is all nutritional yeast pasteurized or just them. Pasterized means that it's cooked, so is this really a good thing?

I thought Nutritional yeast was a by product of molasses production (I have no idea where I heard that :p ). Therefore is could never be raw, but some raw foodies think the benefits outweigh the cooked factor, like AC using miso in some recipes

You can find it online everywhere. Def. not the same as brewers!

I just recently started using a little nutritional yeast. I look at it like I do my spices. No, it's not raw, but it helps add a little taste variety to my raw food and I have no adverse reaction to it(& it has some B12 in it, bonus!) My body reacts pretty quickly to cooked foods, and doesn't with nutritional yeast, so I feel comfortable using it. Everyone has to decide for themselves. I can't use nama shoyu at ALL, makes me sick and puffy, but some people love it and have no problems with it!
