Hi all! I am 31 years old, married, mother of 18 month old Alyssa Lauryn, we are both born and bred in Nassau, Bahamas. Always struggled with my weight (since 11 years old), tried vegetarian in my preteen to age 25. Attempted vegan with no lasting conviction. Came to the end of my rope 2 1/2 weeks ago with my weight at 217lbs. This is mainly due to a non-vegetarian diet, fast food, fatty food diet. I purchased Alissa's book w/ DVD 2 days ago and I'm just waiting to begin. I'm doing a "all or nothing" precursor to the diet, which for me is the only way I can think to stay long term with RAW. I wrote down a list of all the foods that I know have tempted me in the past and I'm eating them to get them out of my system. It's day 4 and I'm sick of it! I'm definitely associating these foods in the negative. Now I can't wait to move on. This Saturday is supposed to be the final day for the "all or nothing", but I'm so sick of eating this food that I'm going to stop tonight. For sure I don't want to see them again!
I'll browse through to get myself prepared until my book and DVD comes. Forward onto getting myself healthy and well!

Welcome!! I went all raw in one day! It worked very well for me. I know I can't eat addicting cooked foods in moderation, so I don't eat them. Best wishes on your journey of self discovery on RAW!!

I was so mentally prepared to go raw this time that it's been easier than ever to stay raw...
I used to eat crappy junk foods, microwave meals, and canned soups ALL THE TIME... I did that because it was cheaper than eating out and I don't have time to prepare meals due to a hectic work/school schedule.
So I spent some time reading Alissa's book, and researching raw online, and then one nite I just decided I had had ENOUGH of feeling AWFUL after eating SAD (Standard American Diet) foods...
The next day I threw out ALL my cooked food, canned food, microwave meals (actually gave them to friends) and out away all my cooking materials. Then I went to the produce section of Safeway, and the Food Co-op in town, and stocked my shelves with everything I wanted to eat in the next few days...
I have been raw for just 2 wks now and ALREADY I feel amazing - my hormones have come back into balance (I had serious regulation issues), my headaches have started to minimize noticeably, I have unbelievable energy again, and I wake up between 6-7am READY TO GO for my day, even if I didnt' get to sleep until 1am!
PREPARATION - ESPECIALLY MENTAL PREPARATION - is going to help you be successful!! So keep it up, because it's WELL WORTH it!!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Well, I couldn't make it! My body is trying to figure out what went wrong! It's rejecting my plan to eat anything else on my list. So I'm going to listen to it and stop! Even now typing this I feel queasy and my stomach is unsettled. In my journal, I've written down how I feel now, when I look back on this, I hope I remember the way I feel and keep the journey forefront in my mind. I don't think my body had to deal with this onslaught before (I'm by nature a grazer and a starver - either constantly snacking little here, little there or constantly starving myself to try to lose weight. So it doesn't know what to think with all this junk piling in on it! I'm not going to torture it anymore.)
I'm beginning the RAW journey today. I've cleared out my fridge the cupboards are today! I can't give up the cooking equipment because my husband's not interested in RAW. It shouldn't be a problem though, he's an Atkins "graduate" so his food won't tempt me. And so it begins.
I'm glad I found this forum.

So glad you are getting Alissa's book and DVD.....BE SURE to watch the DVD and then read her book....I know it's a very big book but half of it is recipes and the chapters are really in bite size pieces. These will help you get off to a good start. Good Luck!

I ordered it before joining the forum, I'm so glad I did. I'm making sure this is fail proof for me.
