I am getting a Vitamix as my next purchase. I got the Dehydrator last month. I am spreading this out because of expense.

Anyway, will the Vitamix chop veggies or only blend them into a paste?

If I need a food processor, which one would you recommend?

Thanks,

Dawn

You can get a chop on a low speed for a very short burst with Vitamix.:)

I have a processor from Target. A small Kitchenaid one for $40....does the job with savings. I use it for veggies, to make flax breads and nut cheeses as well. While not getting things fluffy smooth like the Vitamix I'm very happy with it.

Absolutely need a food processor. They are two different machines doing two different things. I've got top-of-the line of everything.

Someone gave me a cheapie fp... doesn't do anywhere near what my Cuisinart does. Not necessarily recommending the "C" as I've not had enough to compare it with, BUT, if it breaks/burns out, I'll be checking others.

I've had a vitamix for over 10 years and I too was wondering if I should buy a food processor since transitioning to raw a couple months ago. Well, I bought an inexpensive Black and Decker Food Processor (which does the job - I have nothing to compare it with since it's my first one) and I can now see the difference of using that and the Vitamix. I'm glad I made the purchase.

The food processor doesn't need liquid like the vitamix on a lot of things. There's a larger base unlike the Vitamix's narrow base. It's easier to scrape the food around the blades on the fp than the vitamix. I definitely recommend having both. They ARE different like Revvell said.

buy an inexpensive food processor and invest in the vitamix as it is well worth the price.

Check Target and Walmart if you use them - I have had multiple FP from Cuisnart to my latest bought 3 yrs ago and I have not crashed and burn is the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth or something like that - it is wonderful.

and yes, the Vitamix is a different tool and I good tool; I have had mine for 20 years - back in the Stainless Steel days of Vita mix.

Agree with Revvell--two machines and different purposes.

I would truly be hard-pressed to part with my Vitamix. Green smoothies are awsome (all smoothies in the Vitamix are awsome). Equally--the Cuisinart is a blessing in the kitchen whipping up pates and chopping veggies for "rice," burger patties, cracker batter--and so many other things. The original investment may seem like a bit much, but the payoff is sooooo worth it.

Please keep us posted on your progress and the fun recipes you try.

A blender and a FP are the two most important appliances as far as I'm concerned. I absolutely LOVE my vitamix and the best food processor I've ever had is the Cuisinart, which I got from Costco for Christmas...I believe it's around 100.00.
