What would you make for SADs? I need good but not too overwhelming recipe ideas to impress but not stress. :)

I'm considering catering for a group of about 150. They all get the same thing. People don't know the lasagna is raw; they don't know the chili is raw... they LOVE the strawberry crepes... I've had no problem with SAD'ers eating what I make so, can't help ya I don't think.

Is this a sit down or a buffet gathering?

For buffet...

Pates with crudites or flat bread for dipping/spreading for would be yummy and easy. A nut cheese for spreading is also nice. A station to make open faced fresh finger sandwiches

Gorgeous fruit salad with vanilla (whipped cream on the side for SADers)

Happy green salad with blended dressings. Nuts for sprinkling.

Raw lasagna is easily premade and unmolded out of small containers/can rings and looks swanky with pesto or red sauce on the plate.

Smoothies presented in small cups or wine glasses as a desert-like refreshment could be nice as well.

Small raw pizzas could be cute and festive too. Presentation and garnish is everything. Make it tiny and it looks awesome to guests. haha!

Maybe these as tasty decor and texture. http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=25739

It's buffet. Great ideas, thanks! I've actually never made or eaten raw lasagna, can you believe it? ::Goes now to look up recipes::

Looks complicated; very easy to make. Just a lil prep time is all.

This sounds like a wonderful menu. I'm curious what you would do for a sit-down meal.

And Revvell, would you please come to Houston sometime and cater an event for me? Is 150 the largest crowd you have catered for?

Good luck and have fun with your meal-planning and prep, Raene. And CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Let me know if you need help Revvell. I'll be your prep girl.:) I love prepping...I'm a freak.

Gittel, For sit down you could easily plate a stack of, marinated portabellas with softened red/yellow peppers, fresh basil, tad of sd tomato and "hummus" in a double layer. Drizzle with olive oil. It looks swanky and the presentation is easy to make...and colourful. Feta as a side for the SADers or make a raw version salty cheese with salad.

The raw lasagnes and salad could also be sit down.

I would have amuse bouche on sticks in varieties on the table beforehand and a duo of breads with the meal....and a variety of cookies or cream tarts in a mound garnished with flowers for afters. Colourful fruit is a fresher option.

Smoothie in a wine glass or a refreshing mint lemonade beverage in Morrocan tea glasses....

Of course I've only served 12 people who like me...not 20 strangers! Not 150! Yikes Raene and Revvell!!!

Apasaraw, this sounds amazing! (Silly me, I don't know what "amuse bouche" is. Would you please enlighten me?)

An amuse bouch is a one bite treat. Usually served on a small plate (or a stick these days) before the meal is served. Not an appetizer...much smaller...one bite only.

Amuse bouche means to amuse the mouth in French.

Sort of a taste party before the meal starts. :-) Gets people in a good mood!

Oh yeah, you're in!!!! Bo's willing and I'm sure I can get one or two more BUT, would like to have someone who LOVE's prepping!!! IF you are for real about this, I'm definitely willing to take it on. We might be starting a whole new livelihood! *shudders*

One time would be an absolute blast though!

Lemme know!

Cool! They're telling me we "should" go with a country club which means THEIR caterer (wont let us bring food in) so, I'm going to search out a hall over the next couple of days and see what I can find. We're trying to get Oct. 18th.

Wouldn't this be FUNNNNN?????

TOTALLY fun!!!
Of course I'll have to come visit you before that too...

October 18th is now in my Outlook and my BB. When we get closer, you can let me know what days you need a helper before the 18th too...October is a very easy going month in my office.

Oh yayyyy. I'm thinking it'll take about 3 days to purchase/create what we need. We can do the menu virtually; find LOTS of easy recipes we can make a lot of... I'm hoping we can pull this off. If not, we'll plan something else.

I AM planning on a food tasting. Maybe you can come by for that. We'll do it on a Sunday. You can come on Sat., hang out overnight do it and either hang for another night or head out Sun. evening.

Raene congratulations on your wedding and hope everything goes exceptionally well with the food prep.

Revvell and Apasaraw, when the time comes can you please post photos of your rawsome spread? Thank you!

Hello,

I just wanted to pop in here to mention that you might want to make sure that no one has a nut allergy before making all this food for them. As Revell mentioned many people can't tell it's raw and will eat that yummy lasagne never expecting it to have nuts in it and that could be a mess!

Good luck with your menu!

What's interesting about this is that, I go to NUMEROUS networking meetings and never have I heard one person say they have allergies to nuts.

Good plan though. If/when we git-er-done, we will take pics.. LOTS of them... and we'll label what's IN the dish w/out giving away the whole recipe.

Yeah nut allergies are dangerous. I myself and allergic to the truly raw cashews and my partner is allergic to pine nuts. I never want to make a list of what's in the food though or I feel like people won't eat it :(

Y I never want to make a list of what's in the food though or I feel like people won't eat it :(

Why's that? They wont eat food that has tomatoes, basil, nuts (allergies aside) and zucchini ?

Well, I can't see that yet, if that's the way it is, then that's the way it is. I'm thinking out of a crowd of even 20, most will give it a shot.

A compromise that may work on the allergy front: make a veeeery small list that says something like "This unique pasta dish has possible allergens that include: pine nuts, cashews"

Just a thought.

Thats a really good idea Eva. They post those kind of warnings on everything now it seems. My dd, who is 11, remarked at how silly it was that they posted something on the Peanut butter jar warning us that the product contained peanuts. You think?

It's a great thought! A warning but not a scary one.
