So I'm finally going to break down and buy a vita-mix blender. But which one, should I spend the extra for the professional or just the regular one would would fine? And what about the extra containers like the dry container, do I need those?

I can't afford the professional model, but I have heard the home models work great anyway.
I am going to get one in early June at Costco as they seem to offer the best price with extras.

You will be veeeery happy with the regular one. The Pro one is faster and blends to a silk but the regular is very creamy smooooooth too. Seriously.
The dry container is good for chopping nuts or seeds, but I am happpy using my little food processer for this. (unless you plan to grind them to a nice floury consistancy, then the dry container is ideal!)

Because I have a food processor I haven't ever had a need for the dry container and my vitamix is the simple one......two switches - on/off and high/low......it's wonderful and I love it.

I am not sure which model it is, the 4200 or the 5200, but it comes with wet and dry containers, a DVD, a cookbook and I am not sure what else.
Our Costco won't have the display until the beginning of June. I believe the price is $370.
They only display/sell once a year, so you will need to call your local Costco and ask when the Rep. is coming, but many who have one from Costco say it is the best deal they could find.

The Vitamis guy is ALWAYS at our Costo. Ask the mngmnt for the scheduling...they know a couple of months in advance.

The regular one is wonderful. Grinding nuts in it is a little more time consuming than what the online reviewers said, but if you have a coffee grinder or a food processor, than that shouldn't be an issue. The blender works AMAZING on greens though, especially kale, which would've probably broken my previous blender. Good luck and have fun with it!

I just got the red Vitamix 5200 direct a month ago with the dry container (5200 Super option) and love them both. I have a small coffee grinder I can use but when doing bigger amounts like 2 cups of flax or other nuts I find the dry container great for that. It's powerful though and I was a bit afraid to use my Vitamix and still am a bit but love the smoothness of it.
Whatever version you buy I'm sure will be amazing. The only difference is that the newer one is made out of Lexan and has a soft handle and more efficient motor and is more quiet than other models. I can't compare as this is the first one I've owned. Personally I wanted to see a Vitamix live in action before buying but I just took the plunge and split half with my sister who is also raw so the cost wasn't as bad.
Not sure if it's still on but they had refurbished white 5200 models for cheaper that just comes with the white container so ask about it. Also there are free shipping codes if you do a search on the internet to get free shipping from Vitamix themselves.
