View Full Version : Question for those who eat entirely organic

This may seem silly but I'm very curious. For those of you who eat entirely organic, like, 95-100%, do you ever feel sick after you've accidently (or deliberately) eaten something non-organic? It just seems like your body would get so pure that even a small amout of some foreign chemical would make you sick. Just a concern.

I've been eating only organic produce for at least the past 10 years. I just purchased some conventional avocados because they were only 49 cents each. I'll never do that again. I wasn't even considering they weren't organic when I was eating them, but there was definately a lingering after taste in my mouth that I don't experience when eating organic avocados. I also got a mild headache later on. Don't know if the headache was caused by the avos, but I definately noticed a flavor, freshness and texture difference.

I used to eat grapes all the time and one day I ate grapes as usual and I didn't feel so good. My stomach was bothering me and I had unusual pains in my body, like pressure. Anyway, the only thing I ate were the grapes, so I looked at the package and realized that I bought ones that were not organic by mistake. I will never do that again. The sign said "organic", but I must have grabbed the ones next to the organic ones.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I would love to eat only organic but I simply cannot afford it right now. I know everyone says that but I really can't.
What do you all-organic people do about mangos?! And papaya and pineapple? And all the other delicious tropical fruits not easily found organic in most grocery stores? (even my Whole Foods)
I was all organic for about two weeks and LOVED it, but I fell into mangos, and conventional or not, now I can't let them go.

Our nearest store that sells organic is 40 minutes away.....I do the best I can but really love it when I can start getting things from my garden and extra produce/fruit others have too much of and are willing to share or sell. I also love it when I have an abundance of something in my garden and someone is excited to have it.

Every two weeks, I get three large boxes of organic produce from our CSA, Full Circle Farm in Washington. The three CSA boxes consistently cost $150-170. Although our Fred Meyer store does have a fairly good selection of organic produce, sometimes I did have a problem getting just organic fresh fruits and veggies from the store. I order from the CSA because I know that it is fresher than what is shipped up here normally, and I am still not walking yet so this way I don't have to try and get through the store.

I haven't been doing this long, (almost two months), but I eat almost 100% organic. A friend brought me some conventional fruit, and I could taste chemicals. I didn't get sick, but it was most unpleasant. I kept belching an aftertaste. :p I've eaten salads in restaurants, (probably not organic), and didn't notice anything.

Moth: A friend of mine recently bought me the most delicious organic mangoes from Mexico. She got them at a Mexican market. The were a golden orange color, and longer in shape than the Manoes I'm familiar with, almost like a summer squash. They were so sweet and juicy! OMGoodness!

Wow! That's a lot! The first time I ordered from them, I got two large boxes and wound up throwing a lot of it out because our family of three just couldn't eat that much. We are not all raw eaters though. Now I get the small box but I often to it, sometimes getting two boxes per week. We still seem to have too much fruit though. I rarely ever eat fruit because I don't like it. Daughter and husband are very picky as to what they'll eat in the way of fruit and often what I get goes to waste.
I find I sometimes have to buy produce from the store because I ran out of something before the next box comes. I don't always buy organic. I don't get sick from the non-organic, but I find it doesn't always taste as good.

I have been eating primarily organic since, 2005. When I don't I get a metallic taste in my mouth and my tongue feels swollen. Same thing happens when I eat SAD food I am noticing.
Interestingly I think I have been doing raw since, then too unbeknownst to me it was called raw. With the occasional bouts of SAD attacks or binges. Now, I am conciously aware and learning every day more and more. :p

hey, i saw a few of you saying that you couldn't afford organic. being a college student I totally understand and don't eat 100% organic, however, i've found that at my local farmers market, a lot of the vendors do not use pesticides or fertilizers, but they don't want to pay for the "organic" government label.... might be something to check into with summer coming around....

That is true here at our Farmer's Market, also. But, the interesting thing is; is that they were not cheaper then the Whole foods store here.

My ultimate dream is to have my own organic garden with all the staples in it: lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, etc. I believe there is a farmer's market near me. I'll have to check out the prices. Unfortunately, I think they might only be there in the warmer months.
