View Full Version : What Raw has done for me

I have been very frustrated at my raw journey.

Of late I have had to do a lot of travelling for work, something I haven't ever had to do in the past. It's been nearly impossible to be raw on these trips, but I've attempted to stick to salads, etc.

Well, this last trip I was given $100 in gift certificates by my bosses (the three people above me in a row). They were for the family of restaurants that include Chilis. Well, I've been working so hard at being raw, I figured it wouldn't kill me this once to order something that I would have typically wanted in the past.

Jack Cheese Fajitas....mmm.mmmm.mmmmm.....

so I did it. I loved every bite of it, what I ate, but found that I could only eat about 1/3 of the plate! ! !

Being able to fill my self up this easily surprised me, as I am not losing any weight at this point (need to get up in the morning and do that walking ! !).

So, while I thought that nothing was actually happening, here I find out that I was wrong.

Then I spent most of the night feeling ill, waking up about 7 times in the night with indigestion/heartburn like I haven't felt in over a year.

I'm amazed at the changes that are happening without my knowing about them. :)

What an experience and a good one as well. Your body is taking care of you at this time. There is an article in the Essence magazine for July on Raw Foods and the quote from a Master Chef Dr. Aris LaTham (his mago peach pie is heaven sent) she digresses for a moment, but his quote is "It's not the food in your life that matters, but the life in your food." and that Fuzzball is the good news for you - I am happy that it is going well for you.

One more question - she ask, how are your blood sugar readings? ;)

Hi Fuzzball - I can imagine that the fajitas would not agree with you! Your body has gotten used to having healthy good-for-you stuff that when you feed it anything else, it's gonna let you know it's not happy! One of my fantasies is visiting Austin and going to Curras (my favorite Mex place); there are no good Mexican restaurants in Chico fortunately. However, I know what the fare would do to my body. So even if I ever do get back to Austin for a visit, I don't know that I would do it. At least the fantasy doesn't give me indigestion! :D

Yep - I was planning on putting this on RP's post about her realization that raw food just IS and doesn't need to pretend to be cooked food, but I'll put it here instead: I used to love a really good enchilda platter - cheese enchilidas smothered in carne sauce or better yet chile con queso (out here, you either get a rather dry green or red sauce and they have no clue what queso is). But how can you possibly make raw food taste like velveeta and rotelle tomatoes?! It isn't possible and probably wouldn't be adviseable anyway! If I find myself wanting a particular type of food, I'm usually wanting the taste of it, so if it's TexMex, I whip up something with lots of cayenne, comino and garlic (usually with avocados and tomatoes) or if it's Thai, I make Thai coconut soup. My taste buds are happy, my digestive system is happy and that makes me happy!!

Thanks for the encouragement, as always!!

I'm afraid that I gave up reading my sugar numbers....it just got way too expensive to keep buying those strips, so I just try to do the very best that I can at keeping the danger foods out of my diet.

My last A1C was at 7.0, so my doc wasn't happy with me, but all my other numbers improved, so I see myself as on the mend....and I fired my doctor....he wanted to put me on Cholesterol drugs before he even had my blood tests done.....just because he read an article that said it was beneficial to certain people. I need a doctor that is going to work with me, not medicate me.

Keep encouraging me, one of these days I'm going to make it to the top ! ! (so I can meet you there! !)

Hmmmm....I've never been there...don't know the place....sounds as if that's a good thing for me if you are fantasizing about it !

You're welcome back to Texas any time!

I too have had to travel recently and what I foound is that even in "regular" places like Chiles or Mimi's Cafe (in fact almost any place I have tried) if you tell the waitress you eat only raw food and would like a plate with fresh fruit and vegies and some balsimic vinager and olive oil they will usually provide a very nice plate. Example is at Mimi's they have a grilled veggie sandwich I asked if I could have that uncooked with out the bread (no temptation) and stacked like the regular sandwich. I aske for fresh fruit instead of the fries. The plate was wonderful! It was also more than I could eat so I packed the fruit to take back to my hotel for a snack when I wanted something sweet. The best part was the price was the same even though I know they had put more fruit and veggie on the plate. (I had it the other way before raw). Hope this helps
