Just wondering what people with children do for halloween and how does one eat the raw seeds out of the pumpkin?

corky,
If you don't have a dehydrator, you can dry out the pumpkin seeds on the counter. I covered mine w/ a paper towel and they came out just as crunchy as the baked ones!

There's no reason to feel deprived on Halloween from a chocolate perspective! If you don't have them yet, get a bag of raw cacao beans. Here's my recipe:

1/2 c. GOOD coconut oil (see coconut oil discussion in the recipes forum)
1/3 c almond butter
1/4 c ground cacao (grind in a coffee mill)
1/4 c raw carob
some vanilla extract
some peppermint extract (if you like chocolate/mint)
some chopped walnuts
some dried coconut
raisins if you want

Mix it all together (no food processor required, just a bowl and spoon). If the mixture seems too dry add a little more coconut oil. Depending on the temp you're storing your coconut oil at, it might be really firm, try to soften it up a little for easier mixing (c-oil melts at about 75 degrees).

Line an 8x8 pan or pie pan with plastic wrap, pour mixture in and spread it out, put in freezer. Once solid, turn out of pan and cut into squares with a big knife. Store squares in a ziploc bag in the freezer and eat from the freezer. This needs to stay cold to stay firm due to the melting temp of coconut oil (around 75 degrees).

Ingredient amounts are approximate...just toss stuff in! You'll love it!!

Thank you for the recipe Smasty! I will have to look into the coconut oil discussion as i don't know anything about that. I will copy that and give it a go!
