what foods do you stay away from in the evening as opposed to your goodies you enjoy during the day ??
does anyone else only have certain combinations or types of foods they prefer in the evening?
it's late here... almost 11 pm..... and i am starving, but don't want to start having a feast here!
thanks for the suggestions!!

Go to bed! lol.
I say this only because I just ate half of the raw chocolate pie I made for my Mom this afternoon. Now I have to make another one in the morning and put a lock on it.
I usually don't eat after 5 or 6 pm to answer your question. Generally the green smoothies wipe out my appetite. But I only had one today and I've been uncooking all day, with many delightful temptations. Including the cacao treats I made for my family.
A shot of apple cider vinegar if you've got some in your pantry will wipe out your appetite also.
GO TO BED. :D

LOL, I usually just go to bed as well after drinking some water! But if it seems to be too much to handle, I'll have a green juice. I try to respect the digestive system wanting to fast during bedtime.
When I was a kid and got hungry at my bedtime, my mom use to tell me, "You just need to go to bed, you're not suppose to eat this late." Those days I use to go to bed not feeling loved! lol

I reversed my lifelong habit of eating less throughout the day and gorging at night. I eat increasing amounts....up through the afternoon....every 2 hours.....until I get home and have a large melon or something at 6:00......and then nothing after that usually....as I am so tired of my jaws moving! Ha! ha! I find I sleep better that way.

I remember being a kid and not wanting to eat meat andI would have to sit at the table until bedtime and then go straight to bed. Talk about being hungary. It became of way of being so, now I tend to overeat..........So, I try to only eat fruit as it is nourishing and gentler on the DI track.

Thank you so much for posting this! This is one of my biggest problems slash questions! I dont like to overindulge during the day because my stomach easily bloats up, but if I go to bed too hungry, it will either take me hours to fall asleep, or I will fall asleep and then either wake up in the middle of the night, restless and hungry, or too early in the morning, and then will be tired throughout the day. I find that if I eat my last meal at 6, it has to be a balance between not TOO heavy, and not too light.... Then before bed I make hot water with lemon and honey (more filling than one would think), or tea (only momentarily filling, unfortunately). I think the key is really trying to find what type of dinner will prolong you, but wont be too heavy at the same time. Also, it tends to vary from day to day with me (my hunger, that is). Often I take dance or yoga at 6 or 7 pm, and in those cases, I cant eat dinner before 6, but then am let out too late afterwards to eat a full dinner. So, if I'm really hungry, I will make a small bowl of salad (generally with shredded carrots or bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumber) w sprouts or a bit of avocado (but this makes me bloated the next day so I think I have to ditch this) if really hungry (and then wait and hour or two before bed), or I will make a small bowl of green smoothie and throw in some frozen strawberries whole for chewability (not fond of straight up green smoothies), or, if I'm not starving, I will get a juice if possible, and then just make teas if I feel a potential "hunger" coming on. Hope that helped some, but Im also in search of others answers, so Im looking forward to hearing other peoples tips!

I avoid eating late night
if your super hungry then guess something light is best
some cucumber, blended salad or some warm broth
Usually best advice is go to bed!!

I still have a cup of herbal tea at night (not raw, I know, but I can't give up my herbal tea just yet). If it were 11pm and I were starving, I'd probably eat half of a bell pepper or a spoonful of coconut oil just to quell the hunger pangs enough for me to fall asleep.

Oh that's horrible! :( If I were that way as a child I am sure my parents would not have considered my wants as well. Funny (but sad) how some norms in the past can finally be seen as pure craziness! I am glad you have found raw food! ;)

What a great thread! I am such a bad evening snacker, and you have all given me good ideas for intevening with my compulsions. I especially like the ACV idea!:)
Yes, count me in as another one who eats light during the day, but then binges to my hearts content at night. I am working on moderating my meals, but my work schedule is erratic, so sometimes I just feel like I have to eat a ton of food at night.
I'll try the suggestions...thanks.

Right now I'm eating a big, sweet organic grapefruit! God, is it good. I used to eat nuts and raisins in the evening, but that was making me gain weight. Now I strive not to eat in the evening, but I eat fruit if anything.

oh i feel so "in place" here! i also have problems with eating at night.. i know i should eat light, but sometimes i reeeeeeeeeally just want something SALTY or ..well NOT sweet. i may be eating a lot of fruit during the day since it's easy to grab&go if i'm running around.. so sometimes at 9pm or so i have just a little green salad with a bit of avocado and well..nama shoyu or something of that sort. it's a small salad..but the saltiness satisfies me

I did that for awhile. Figuring it's a good kidney cleanse. Don't do it anymore and usually eat 1/2 melon before bed.

Mine may be a less popular view, but I think eating a large meal later in the day is better than eating meals stacked up on top of each other during the day. I tend to do my more substantial eating from 4 pm to about 9 pm. It works for me and most of Europe. ;-)
Having said that, I wouldn't eat much of anything right before bed, but I might drink some juice or have a bunch of grapes if I'm feeling extra munchy.

I think you're onto something here...when I lived in Europe I tended to eat my biggest meals from 6pm to midnight, hardly ever had breakfast or lunch. This was a few years ago and I remember hanging out with friends in the late evening having dinner, eating. I was heavier, but my energy levels were pretty much the same. I was in Italy. Eating well and extremely good food daily is built into the culture. You can't get away from it. Even if wasn't all Raw, it was fresh and my goodness it was always fantastic! Ah I digress... :p
Here in the States, my eating clock is completely different. I eat between 11am-4pm.
Maybe it has to do with both our biorhythms and where we happen to be on the earth.
Interesting.
