Can anyone help? My dr. has dropped me for being "non compliant" becasue I won't take antidepressants - therefor I can not see him today and I am in so much pain! I had a colonic yesterday which relieved some pain but I am really cramping again today - mostly in the upper portion of my stomach. With IBS I always feel like I "caused" it. I know I ate too much flax and broccoli to start this latest round - but...does this mean that a raw diet is too much for IBS and I should be eating sweet potoatoes? That would be so sad if my body can not handle raw. Should I start eating raw grains like oats and barley? I am really in need of help! I am not sure if my fruit smoothie - blueberries, pineapple cherries - is causing more of an issue? - Sorry to have so many questions!

A couple of things you could do.

If your smoothies are causing issues, wouldn't you know? Wait awhile after drinking and see how you're being affected.

I'd add greens. People with digestive problems can usually heal them with green smoothies. Don't gulp, sip. Do the smoothies for about 2-3 months before eating much fibrous raw. Listen to my interview with Victoria Boutenko here: http://tinyurl.com/36fm7w.

Hi,

Many years ago I was diagnosed with IBS and man was it bad. I would be balled up from cramping reguarly thought I was dying... It was bad.

I dealt with it for a while and about 2 years ago I was lead to do a 40 day fast. I was healed on that fast. I did the master cleanse, with lots of prayer. Even with eating poorly after that I didn't have the issues. I do lead a life of fasting to. Not encouraging you to try this but sharing my experience with you.

Blessings,

Vessel

I have IBD which is worse than IBS and I do best of raw. It will take a few days or week to get used to it so it might get worse before it gets better. I recommend self healing colitis and crohn's by david klein. He talks about how to transition when you have intestinal issues. I have also found that doing a few transition weeks is good where I'm not 100% raw and eat vegan. Good things are like boiled potatoes for this period. Also smoothies and lots of fresh juice. Smoothies are great because they're already "digested" for you.

Sounds like you've gotten some good suggestions about IBS already soooo I'll just add my suggestion......find a different doctor that will work with you and your way of thinking....they are out there.

HI there

You should read "Self Healing Colitis and Crohn's" ASAP. Dave Klein has helped many people heal from digestive/bowel issues with the raw vegan diet.

Some things to help now:

Quit eating tough veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and any greens tougher than romaine lettuce. These are wonderful, nutritious foods, but they are tough to digest.

Stick to simple meals, the less ingredients the better. Eating mono meals (one item per meal) is ideal for digestion and will help you feel better immediately and will help heal your IBS.

Avoid fats until you feel better, especially nuts and seeds, they are VERY hard to digest.

Stick to mostly fruit. It is the easiest raw food to digest.

Take care and feel better soon!

Blessings,

Audrey

Absolutely, the most important thing to do in fighting the symptoms and pain of IBS is to DESTRESS.

That includes stressing over the condition itself.

After thirty years living with IBS and diverticulitis. I know that it is absolutely necessary to find outlets in your life to destress.

Meditate
Yoga
exercise
swim
sleep
talk to a friend
sit in the sun

It is imperative, along with what you choose to eat, that you take time each and every day to stop stressing in life.

Stress is the number one cause of onset symptoms and pain for the ibs and other conditions.

Learn to relax and be at peace with what you choose to eat.

I would just add that IBS can be undiagnosed Celiac Disease. I'd avoid all wheat, oats and rye for a spell to see if it helps. Sugar can cause distress as well, so if you find the fruit consumption isn't making it better, try upping your green veggie consumption instead. Either one may well help - just make sure you keep track of your progress.

I was diagnosed with IBS a thousand million years ago, and have only gotten relief being 100% gluten and dairy free.

Good luck.

I thought I heard that colonics are not good for those with IBS, Diver, Crohns etc. I could be wrong though.
