View Full Version : Help! I keep eating coconut oil straight from the jar....

Ugh! I need someone to scare me about the ill effects of consuming STRAIGHT COCONUT OIL. I bought some extra-virgin raw organic coconut oil, never in a million years expecting how dreamy it would be.
Yesterday I ate FOUR tablespoons of it, straight from the jar!
This cannot be good... the only thing that will make me stop is scare tactics (knowing what horrible things all this pure fat will do to my health).
The weird thing is, I've always hated coconut. I hate that nasty super-sweetened shredded stuff that passes for coconut at the grocery store... I hate the smell of tanning lotion or anything else coconutty or tropical. So it's quite bizarre that I'm addicted to this all of a sudden!!

Coconut oil is good for you. Nothing wrong with eating it like that.

Really? okay... I just keep thinking I would never eat Crisco straight like that (even before I was raw) so it seems crazy that I'm craving it! Thank you!!
(BTW, the craving is much subsided today. Maybe I had a couple of days of super-strong cravings for it because my body needed something from it?)

hey girl. if your body is wanting all that oil i'm sure it needs it. . . . dont fret at all... besides coconut oil has omega 3s which are good for the brain, plus great for hair skin and nails... and i know that everyone raves about how it speeds up matabolism and helps lose weight like no other. i personally use it for make up remover, hair conditioner, moisturizer, chap stick, and shaving cream, and it's also my favorite to use for oil pulling in the morning. which has worked wonders for me. i also use it whenever i burn myself, and especially when i cut myself... it heals wounds like crazy... and definitely prevents scarring. in my opinion i think coconut oil is one of the best overall raw foods to eat and i consider it a miracle food. SO EAT UP!!!!! SOOOOO GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Noni,
What a great testimony. What brand? How much do you take it in smoothies? How much? Salad dressing? Oh, how do you use in hair and how do you rinse? Thanks. I need to get rid of this extra 18 pounds and speed up the metabolism. My hubby said stop eating so much fruit and it will come off. It probably will help, but I love my fruits.

Nothing wrong with that...your body needs it for some reason.
I've gone through many stages on this journey being hooked on certain foods that I don't eat as many quantities (up to 3-4!) anymore. For example:
avocados
banana chocolate ice cream (morning and night when I first started)
bananas
apples
oranges
flax crackers
pates
lots of gourmet raw dishes
raw pies and cakes
huge salads
I could go on and on...it changes all of the time. I eat more simpler now but there's no judgement...it's a journey.
By the way, I'm losing fat weight eating 1-2 tbs of coconut oil straight from the jar daily. :D
Enjoy!

Wow, thank you for the replies! Noni and RawHeaven, that is so interesting, because oddly enough, I am DOWN a full pound in the last 2 days (after two days of eating it). I figured all the greens I've been consuming must have made up for it... but that's interesting that it boosts metabolism!
RawHeaven, yup, I had just ended an avocado fixation too... it's fun to answer the call of whatever raw healthy foods my body is craving... I'm just having to get used to it, I guess!
Thank you again for all the replies!

Yeah, what brand, cuz my coconut oil isn't very pleasant in my opinion. It's called Jungle something or other...in glass with blue and black label.

I use nutiva, extra virgin. It doesn't say raw on the label but it is. It's yummy too...not too sweet or coconuty.

It is fun...I love to eat! lol. I'm eating 2-3 avos a day again. Got a good deal on them recently and stocked up.
Enjoy your goodies.

Raene, mine is Garden of Life... I bought it before I discovered this site, otherwise I would have bought from Alissa!

In Bruce Fife's "Coconut Cures" he recommends about 3.5 Tablespoons as a maintenance dose for healthy people and he has a cleanse like the Master Cleanse involving 10+ T per day plus stevia lemonade. I have seen 6 T recommended for candida infections and . You won't hurt yourself with it. It's a miracle for the skin, too, and makes a great deodorant under arms after showering...Garden of Life is pricey, though.

WOW!!!!! 3.5 Tbsp... so I wasn't crazy to eat that amount after all! "Coconut Cures"... I will have to check that out. Oh yeah, after Noni's post I used some as moisturizer on my dried-out hands. Actually I put it on one hand only to see if there was a difference. Right now, the coconut oil hand is soft and the other one is dry and feels flaky! Vedddddy interesting!!

I think this thread is so interesting - that you can enjoy something so much that you didn't care for before. I have had the same experience - I use coconut oil in my smoothies. Never cared for the taste of coconut much before raw. I also have taken to liking olives - which I have never liked. Now I truly enjoy the taste of raw olives. Go figure.

MrsJohnnyG,
Wow, I have the opposite problem. Starfire's thread inspired me to try it for weight loss, but after crumbling a few bits in my mouth I couldn't take any more and rubbed into my skin. Darn!
