When I began my green smoothie fast/feast, I got terrible headaches. They felt like migraines, with shakiness and all. I had to go to bed and sleep them off. I enjoyed them, as strange as it sounds, because I knew that my body was detoxing and getting rid of poisons!
It only lasted a couple of days. I will be thinking of you and sending hugs!
Keep it up...You can do it!!

It could be from one particular ingredient. What are you putting in them? Are you eating other things? How long have you been doing them? Have you given up caffeine?

It could be both. Your body will be detoxing but, also if you put foods in their that are too high in sugar in could cause fatigue and headaches. Also, until you are fully cleansed you could even be allergic to something.
I know for me mangos are just too too sweet for right now and send me spinning.
Take it slow and experiment.

I definately think its either the sugars, or an allergy to a particular ingredient! PS, you're not alone; I get headaches from them too! Unfortunately, this seems to happen everytime I consume sugars, even fruit sugars. Too bad I'm digging my fruits rightnow more than I'm willing to give up;)

Do they last long? If not, and you add a lot of frozen fruit or ice to your smoothies, might very well be brain freeze (similar to the headaches people get after eating icecream). Just a thought ~ Cathy

I would ditto the detox, the smoothies really help with that especially if you use green powder along with fresh greens, I got crazy bad migranes when I started upping my greens too, but I got them under control, and will never go back to a life without green smoothies

Thanks for your reply. The ingredients that go into my green smoothies are:
1 avacado
2 bananas
agave
hemp powder
Green Food Powder
Maca Root
water
I have not been able to give up my 1 cup of coffee in the morning, but I am working on it. My first thought was the sugar in the agave, but it is almost instant that my headaches come on from starting to drink it which leaves me thinking that its not from the sugars. I do get sugar headaches.

I thought I was the only one that would get a sugar headache from fruit too. Thanks for your reply

Are the bananas frozen? Could it be from the cold?
I can't see the agave giving you a headache. It's extremely low on the glycemic index. Bananas are actually pretty high. On the other hand, I would have thought all the healthy fat in there would slow down the sugar absorpsion. Hard to say.
Sometimes intense greens (like wheatgrass, for example) will give me a raging headache or make me sick to my stomach. How much green powder are you adding?

Eveleaf- Thanks for your post. I sometimes use frozen bananas. I use about 1 Tbls of the Green powder. These headaches are so weird. They go away 5 minutes after I take a sip, them come back as soon as I drink some more.
