So yesterday my mom informed me after taking a macro-class that she learned that cucumber skin/peel is not good for our bodies at all; it's the one veggie that you shouldn't eat the peel of. Anyone else ever heard anything like this? I took it to be macro-crap myself...have problems with the macro community in general...anyone noticed how they are sooooo slow moving/sluggish almost like they're half dead from cooking all of their foods? Very kind and peaceful, but not very alive. No offense to anyone who is or used to be macro here. Just what I've noticed in all macrobiotic people in my area.

why do they say that?

The skins on most vegetables and fruit contain the most of the nutrition of the veg or fruit! Cuke skins are the best part of the cuke! High in silica!

They are probably avoid of nutrition if they are leaving off all the skins - that is why they move around like dead.

I'm no expert, but I assume they're referring to the peel of regular, non-organic cucumbers being bad for you. I'm sure the waxy coating is not too good for you. But I don't see what the problem would be with "hot house cucumbers" a.k.a. "English cucumbers" or "seedless cucumbers." They're long and they come wrapped in plastic wrap so they don't have a waxy coating on them. Just a guess.

I agree, the only thing that I would concern myself at all with would be wax and pesticides on the skin.

Cucumbers are great!!! :-)

Unless organic, I always spray cucumbers with a 50/50 solution of acv and water, rub it in well and rinse well with warm to hot water. You could also use a vegetable brush under warm/hot water.

They were talking about organic. Something about a toxic something or other in the peel...not caused by man, but naturally occurring. Hmm.

I believe if my body thought organic cucumber skins were poisonous it would tell me loud and clear. It reacts pretty quickly to rid itself of toxins now. I put 2 large ones in my smoothies every day with no problems.

Well, I've eaten alot of cucumber skins in my life and I'm still kicking and like to think I'm pretty much normal. The one skin I have heard you shouldn't eat is banana.

I'm bumping this thread because I found it while searching for "peel cucumber".

I'm confused now. For all I've heard, cucumber peel not only aid digestion but are FULL of minerals and anti-oxidants....

I'm going to try to get more info on that... *scratches head*
