Is it possible to freeze avocados in any form? I have a case of them and I'm not sure that I can use them all right away. Thanks.

Wow....I've froozen about everything but not avacodos....I'd think they'd go brown when you let them thaw but who knows if you put some lemon or lime in with them....I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

YES.........You can Freeze them in Any Form. I like to Freeze them WITH the Seed around them. I serve them with the Seed. The Seed keeps it from turning Brown, its like it is still in its Shell, therefore I don't have to use Lemon. I am SO Happy you were able to Get a Case......I LOVE Avocados.:) :)

Spicyfull, do I understand correctly? You freeze the avocados WHOLE--with the skin on? Do you then allow the avos to thaw before you cut and peel them? Do they maintain their texture? Or is necessary to use them mashed, as in guacamole?

I didn't know about freezing them with the seed still on at the time.
Mine came out soggy and stringy, didn't like the way they tasted.
They are too expensive to try again for us right now.
But it may work for you.
Try it.

I've had no problems freezing them whole. However, they are mushier once thawed, so tend to use them for puddings and smoothies. ~ Cathy

ooohh...

I just got a case of about 25 avocados for $2! I wasn't actually sure if avos could be frozen as I've always eaten them fresh, but even with a whole household we are having a little trouble eating them.

I wonder if I could squeeze some into the freezer, there's always space issues between the bananas, frozen raw sweets etc.

Spicyfull....could you give us more of your experience on freezing them....do you freeze with the skin and seed....is the texture different when they thaw or do you even let them thaw....what do you us them in if they are a different texture...BASICALLY, I just want to know everything about it. I haven't read anywhere about this and don't know what to expect and want to take advantage of the next time I see a great deal on them....THANKS!!!

Haha, yeah... we've got it down pat now... go to the market just before it closes. My local market is huge, and part of closes for 2 days, so in that area the stalls are keen to simply get rid of everything rather than haul it away with them, so we can often get insane bargains! We also got a tray of tomatoes for $2 as well. Not organic of course, but fresh.

I've dried most of it and have restocked my jars of semi dried tomatoes with basil, garlic and olive oil.

I love veggie bargains.... :D

Just pop them in the freezer, skin and all! Yes, the consistency is mushier once thawed, but you can use them in puddings, smoothies, etc ~ Cathy

No.....I do not Freeze them whole.....I peel them, take the seed out, then store it in a ziploc bag add the seed back to the bag and freeze. When I unfreeze it, it is just like FRESH. The Seed has properties that keeps it ALIVE. Whenever I serve an Avocado (and it has to sit for a while) I always add the seed to the Mix, to maintain the Natural Color...........

Could you tell us more about your semi-dried tomatoes with basil, garlic and olive oil. I dry alot of my tomatoes from my garden and would love to know about this.

Okay Lafsalot says they go mushy and Spicyfull says they are like fresh....is because one of you keeps the skin on and the other doesn't. Maybe I just need to go and experiment myself. Oh, by the way, I got a great deal on them yesterday....30 cents each.....I've never gotten a deal even close to that before....they are small but still 30 cents is incredible considering they were 1.79 a couple weeks ago.

Wow, I'm jealous, avocados are $3.99 where I live! And not the big ones either, the tiny ones from California and Peru.

I'm definitely going to plant the native varieties in my yard (when I move)! They're huge (as big as a newborns head) and have more flavor and texture (meatier - pardon me!) than the imported ones. Plus, if you know someone who has a tree, they're FREE!

This is some great info though! Thanks.

It sounds like the difference is freezing the pit, rather than leaving the skin on or off. I plan to freeze some tonight. I'll keep you posted on my results.

I peel them, douse the halves in a bit of lemon juice and freeze them in a baggy. No pip just the flesh. I find they don't lose texture at all. Fuertes stay creamy and Haas keeps that deeper nuttiness they have and the firm-ish texture.
