Hi...
I tried these greens when I first went raw, YUCK. But I know they are super good for you, especially the liver. Im a green smoothie king, and wonder, If in a green smoothie with fruit sweetener if the taste is still as strong?
Alright Thanks

Try adding pineapple, agave, or other ingredients. There really are no rules or regulations to making your smoothie ~ Cathy

The new, young leaves are not as bitter as the more mature leaves...by the way they are great for your liver.

Try using one or two leaves at first and gradually add More.

I noticed we have a ton of dandelions growing, big now as I missed them already in our side yeard. We don't spray. Today they are being washed by the rain. I warned my husband these are weeds to eat, not cut down.

Can you blend in the flowers as well or just the stem + leaves? I've got a tiny field of them growing in our flower bed and I'm dying to harvest them for a GS.
Great suggestion re: blending in some fruit... can't wait to try a dandelion + + greens + fruit smoothie!!

You want to pick them before they flower ~ Cathy

Dandelions are so ick, but they look and feel nice. I try to have them in my smoothies once in a while.

We have been feeding large tortoises and lizards for years on the same stuff I am now realizing *I* should have been eating all along. Ha.
Anyway, the dandelion flower is one of their FAVORITE things to eat. The love the greens too, but the flowers are definately candy to them. They also love hibiscus flowers so I threw one of those in my smoothie one day too. I have also added a few leaves of the flowers to a salad. I see at the farmers market they have salad mix with flowers in it, but I have never seen any dandelion flowers in there. Is there some reason why people don't or shouldn't eat those flowers?

Dandelion wine is made from the flowers.

You can eat the flowers. Best picked young and just before you eat them, they have somewhat of a sweet, honey-like taste. Want less bitter-tasting greens, then pick before they flower ~ Cathy

Huh? How can they have a taste "just before" you eat them?
Do you mean just before they open?

I make a variation of this smoothie once or twice a week. it comes out purple from the blueberries and its really, really good. I vary it depending on what I have in the house, but the 3 bananas and the blueberries are goodat
masking the dandelions.
3 bananas
1 large handful parsley
about 2 cups dandelion greens
1 c frozen blueberries
a handful blackberries
milk from one coconut
1 cup ice
Mairzee_dotes, they are best picked just before you eat them.

"young" meaning blossoms that have just opened
"just before" meaning freshly picked

I throw in the dandeloin, flowers and whatever else looks wild around here from my yard. My dand. are growing large. Small is always best, but hey whatever I have here is fresher than the store.
I wonder if anyone tried purslane (an edible plant) in smoothies? I need to hunt for some of that too in my yard. We live in a country setting so weeds are not in short supply.
I'm going through spring greens like crazy these days. If it was a drug then the produce man would think I was always getting high off these things. I love them even alone with tomatoes/greens/pinch salt/pinch olive oil, but if someone tells me do coconut oil (butter to me is the same I suppose), then I'm game to fooll my husband too.

Extra bananas. That's what I always add when I put dandelion greens in my smoothies. But stay away from adding citrus fruit to a dandelion smoothie because the bitterness is a bit overbearing.

My body hasn't adjusted to greens yet so juice still makes me throw up - but blending weeds blows up my blenders. So yesterday I juiced some dandelions (leaves and blossoms) and then blended both juice (1oz) and pulp with bananas and clementines. It didn't make me throw up yay, and it was edible. Not great but not nasty either.
