I made Alissa's raw chili one time and liked it. The only problem I had was that I found the sprouted barley to be too hard and almost unchewable. It dawned on me that I might be able to use sprouted chick peas. Do they get soft when you sprout them?? If not, what other grains or beans become soft when you sprout them and/or which would work well in chili, in your opinion?

TIA :)

I must be one of the few who don't like sprouted chic peas, but I can say when you sprout them they soften a little, and still have a crunch, I cant have gluten so many grains are out for sprouting for me so I experimented and I found sprouted buckwheat works well for most things and I love spouted millet and qinoua(which I cant spell), oh another that spouts well and is lovely raw, alone and in dishes is mung beans,

i don't like sprouted chickpeas either... not a fan of the texture, they are still crunchy but not too hard to chew. i like sprouted buckwheat as well... i like soaked chia seeds too, but that's a little different.

chia seeds? thats a new one on me, what is it? I am always looking for new seeds and grains to add to my pretty resricted(due to allerys) diet,

I have to say that thanks to the net and this board in particular I am always discovering new things to try, Ive been able to extend my raw diet in a way I never thought possible when I started over a year ago.

They deffinately aren't like when you get them out of a can....crazy that's kind of what I expected. Did it once and haven't done it again

They do soften some, but they're still pretty crunchy.

I adore soaked chickpeas. They're softer when they've only been soaked 24 hours. When they sprout they go harder again.

Soaked are still crunchy but edible. I'm addicted to them. But legumes of all kinds make me irritable. No idea why. :(
