Hey there Everyone!
I am brand-spankin' new to the Raw Foods program (such as days-old) and I know this is going to take some getting used to - especially since I spent almost 2 years on the Atkins program and lost over 70 lbs. . . This is a change that I MUST make, not just so that I can look good, but so that I can come off of blood pressure medication and lose about 100 lbs and BE HEALTHY. It gets very old, as a very young-looking 38-yr-old, to have my doctor constantly telling me that I'm destined to count calories and live on blood pressure medication for the rest of my life. To me - that's a death sentence, but, according to Dr. Gold, so is having blood pressure of 220/130. I'm not happy every time he asks me, "How's my walking stroke patient today?". . .
I'm about 5' 4" and weigh about 230 lbs. (Wow - THIS is very freeing! I'm not even concerned that you all will make fun of me. . .) I have a medium frame and the genetics to body-build, which 2 of my brothers do, but I know the fat has to come off first. I do desire to one day be healthy enough to be an inspiration to someone else struggling with health issues. . .
I've read Alissa's book, and due to the testimonies inside of it and through this website, I'm encouraged, but at the same time, fearful of not being able to overcome the sugar cravings without resorting to a strictly protein diet, such as Atkins. I just want to be HEALTHY and without medication and water retention.
Thanks for letting me introduce myself and I welcome your words of wisdom and encouragement. I recognize this is a lifestyle change and not a diet. As the new Director of my church's Wellness Ministry, I want to be a real living example of how healthy eating/living can transform our lives and help us live longer and be more productive.
Peace!
