Are these like a dried chile? Is it the "canned" in oil ones? Or do you just make your own?
I have seen the dried chiles, but not a dried tomato.
Thanks!!

I have dried tomatoes in a bag. They're like big raisins but not as sticky. I hear tell that some people can not find that kind where they live and can only get the kind packed in oil. I've never tried that kind.

I buy organic sun-dried tomatoes from my local health food store. They come in a plastic bag, no liquid. If all you could find were the ones packed in oil, just make sure it's olive oil (cold-pressed is preferred) and make sure that they don't contain sulfites. If you can find the ones packed in water, that would be fine, I should think, but again, watch out for sulfites. If the sun-dried tomatoes are red, they usually contain some type of preservative. The ones I buy are brown and not very pretty, but they still taste good.

You can also make your own, and are so easy to do. I just marinate 1/2 slices in evoo, garlic, basil, and oregano overnight, then pop them in the D. ~ Cathy

Whenever I get ahold of a big batch of tomatoes, as well as eating them fresh, I just slice them into 1/4" slices and stick them in the dehydrator - no marinating or anything. Easy, and so great to have around in the winter when there aren't any tomatoes around. Tomatoes are starting to show up around here, so it looks like soon I'll be dehydrating a bunch.
