So I've been raw for several weeks now, but I slipped up when I got depressed and I had a burger. I don't know why I eat junk food when I get depressed. Weird, huh. I noticed that when I ate the burger my nose started to run like I do when I catch a cold. Really strange.
My brother told me the other day that he stopped eating beef. I guess my preaching worked.

Hiya,
Did the burger have cheese on it? Dairy products tend to build up mucus for some reason. They are bad for you. No other animals willingly consumes milk from another, except humans (strange isnt it). Don't worry about slipping up. It happens we are only human. Just get yourself back on track and put the slip up behind you.

the same thing happens to me if I eat too much sugar...

If there was no cheese on the burger, then it might be the wheat in the bun. I get congested from wheat and my kiddos are no wheat and gluten free.

Having your nose run is a sign of cleansing....I'm sure your body was saying lets get rid of this burger as quick as possible.

i think so too. if there was dairy involved, more than likely this caused the cleansing action and immediate mucus purging.
i ate something raw and sweet, but too much of it recently. my body immediately went into purge mode and it was not fun. the clearer your system becomes seems to be in direct correlation to how terrible you may feel if you eat something that doesn't agree with you. and more importantly, how intolerant the body is to receiving anything it perceives as a toxin. it's a blessing i believe.

Earlier today I ate something I shouldn't have, and later this afternoon within the space of an hour I got this sore throat - just feeling kind of yucky right now. I'm not even 100% raw either, so it can't be because my system is THAT clean yet, but maybe it's getting there, with this reaction!

You're getting cleaner than you think. You'd be surprised at how quickly the body responds to perceived poisons after you're consuming any percentage of raw foods. The body is truly an amazing machine and ultimately knows what it's doing. It's always striving for optimal health...just makes it easier if we're on board with the program too IMO. :p

Hi RawHeaven! Thanks for the input! Still not feeling that great, but I'm looking at it as yet another learning experience, and I also just e-mailed a friend mentioning that I'm glad actually to see the old bod kicking into gear with this.

I'm quite fascinated by this post. I have been fairly high raw for a couple of months but have slipped up several times (though not too badly) and today I ate some chocolate and also within a few hours of that I had a sore throat. Odd. Coincidence (coming down with something) or detox?

I have been raw for 5 months. Now I react immediately if I eat something impurer. Last week I ate some sun dried tomatoes in oil. Right away I felt hot, almost feverish, my ears itched, my throat was sore, and I got congestion in my nose and lungs. It turns out that the oil was heated. Cooked oils make me fell terrible!
