Hi all~~
An acquaintance informed me today that she does not allow herself a green smoothie every day, because she only likes them with spinach, and someone told her that eating spinach daily can either cause or aggravate arthritis--someone she sees as more of a nutritional guru than me, ha.
I was irked b/c I love my spinach, yet had nothing I could readily refute her with...never heard this before. I'm not inclined to "go easy" on something that feels so beneficial. Really, I'm just curious.
Anyone?

That's cooked spinach. Not the raw baby spinach. When someone says "too much" of something is bad for me/them, I always like to ask ~"so, how much is too much? How do you KNOW it's too much?"

Is this maybe an oxalic acid sensitivity issue?

Hi coconutcutie,
I don't know...she said that she had forgotten what the exact issue was--yet she was ADAMANT about restricting her intake....people are funny. :p

It's important to get variety on any diet. Balance, variety, and moderation ;) . Anything can cause harm in large enough quantities. I wouldn't worry much about too many spinach smoothies, though.

i really think the key is to listen to your individual body
if too much spinach causes arthritic symptoms, then by all means maybe change it up a bit
i don't want to project my own doubts that it doesn't...hmmm
maybe over consumption of spinach does cause arthritis in some folks (shrugs shoulders) especially if they believe it does..... they've already set the course in motion if they believe it's gonna happen and there's not too much you can do about it anyway if they really believe it you know? it's their creative abilities at work.
like revvel says - how do you know it's too much and i agree with rawstrength - eat a variety. i'll add listen, listen listen. our bodies are always communicating with us

Thanks, guys.
I'm not the least bit concerned--just wondered what others thought/knew about it...personally, I hope she continues with her GS routine.
