Cheap and easy = nylon socks!

Buy a new pair of nylons, cut them to desired size, clean them, then put your soaked sprouting seeds inside. Hang them up somewhere so that they can drain. Take them down 1-2 times daily and rinse. In a few days you will have sprouts.

Stockings are a great idea! I have heard people use paint bags. I bought sprouting bags from food co-op for $2. I am sprouting Mung bean and lentils right now. Here's a link: http://www.sproutpeople.com/seed/mung.html
www.sproutpeople.com have a lot of sprouting info.
You can also use Ball jars with cheese cloth over the top.
I just found this too

Where? Must it hang in a dark or dark-ish place? Is near a window ok, nor not so good? I understand that it needs to be in a place where a bowl can be placed underneath for drips.
