View Full Version : Another Vitamix Question

I used the banana first, and I couldn't find a definitive answer...so forgive me if I ask a question that has been asked many times. I finally have decided to fork over the money for a Vitamix 5200. Mostly I need one for my gs and nut butters. Do I need the wet and dry container? I thought that I might need the dry container for my nut butters since I'm not adding any liquid to those...but, it's an extra 100 bucks to add the extra dry container. I can always get it later if I find I want to grind wheat or something, but until then, do you think I'll be okay with just a wet container?

(I do want to try out some homemade bread...does the wet container knead dough??)

If I can do my smoothies, nut butters, and an occassional loaf of bread, I'd be happy.

Thanks!

These are questions for the VM company. Personally, I would never make nut butter with my VM and certainly not bread dough. That's for the fp imo. (Not that I would ever consider making bread. Ummm, you're talking REAL, baked bread here?)

Revvell- Thanks for your reply. I have tried making nut butters in my fp and it doesn't work out at all. Never gets to that creamy stage. I've made it in a friend's VM 3600 a few times and works out pretty good.

Both, "Real" and raw (not all my family is raw, so I at least try to make them as much homemade stuff as I can). I have tried several of Alissa's bread recipes with sprouted wheat berries and can't seem to puree the berries enough. The bread comes out grainy and a bit crunchy. Was hoping if I had a good enough blender that may give my raw breads a more "real" bread consistency. Maybe raw bread is just hard??

I did contact VM. They said that I can use the wet container for nut butters and pretty much everything else but grinding wheat and kneading dough. I'm thinking though since raw bread is a different consistency than "real" bread, that I may be able to use the VM 5200 for all my raw needs- it claims to be an all-in-one appliance (juicer, blender, fp, bread machine etc). Have you not found this to be true?

I love and use my Vita-mix for most everything. I also have a Cuisinart fp, but don't use it nearly as much as the VM.

That's great to know...so, do you make nut butters in your VM? Would you suggest I get the wet and dry containers??

Alissa doesn't sell this model. I've been searching online since Vitamix won't be visiting my Costco for 6 weeks and I've already been without a blender for almost a month! (I'm in desperate need of a green smoothie!!) Has anyone bought one recently? I went to Vitamix.com, ebay, and a couple other places. I'm trying to get the best deal from a reliable source.

Since Alissa doesn't have them I'd get one from Vitamix or from an affiliate who would benefit from the purchase like rawtism.com.

http://rawtism.com/Resources.html

Their link takes you directly takes you to Vitamix.com to order the 5200.

Do you belong to a Costco?

They usually have one week during the summer where they sell Vitamix and it is a pretty good deal with extras.

I am not sure if it is the 4200 or the 5200 model though.

Even though it says you can grind nuts in the Vitamix, it's very hard and messy. Trying to scrape out the nut butter around the blades by itself is worth the $100 for the dry container. Just imagine putting sticky peanut butter into the blender and then you'll know what I mean. However, if you have a food processor, then don't even bother with the extra container.

Dawn W,

I bought my Vitamix from Costco and it is the 5200. They guaranteed that they were the lowest price.
