View Full Version : Day 45 of my 90-Day Juice Fast

I took some headshots with my phone to document my progress on this Juice Fast. I am wearing the exact same makeup in all of these pictures, and my hair is very wet, so it looks a bit weird. *grin*

First comparison: on Day 1 and Day 45

Well, *sigh* after looking at these, all I can really see is a slightly thinner face. I have lost 30 pounds so far - obviously more noticable in my hips than it is in my face. *smirk*

I know what I did wrong. I'm posting them from a "private" flickr account. I'll tweak something - see if it works. Sec.

OK, I changed the settings on the pictures, but I may have to repost this entire thread. Let me know if they still aren't showing up?

Eveleaf

You're too cute, sis.
Really, it's not a dramatic difference?

daylene
05-02-2008, 05:08 PM
Oh, wow, that was totally worth the wait! You are gorgeous, chica! It's not just that you've lost some weight in your face. You also look more, I don't know, *aware*. Like your soul is closer to the surface, instead of hiding behind your skin. I don't know if I'm making any sense at all, but that's the feeling I get looking at your pictures!

Oh, and one more thing. In the first pair of pics it's really obvious that your shoulders and neck have a LOT more definition. You look stunning!

I do see a difference! You are looking great! That is awesome you are on day 45 of a juice feast. I lasted a week on my juice fast. Keep up the good work!

Eveleaf
05-02-2008, 05:22 PM
Aw, thank you Jacki. I appreciate it. I'm getting a LOT of comments at work and church, so I know the difference in my figure is more obvious than just my face. Too bad I didn't take any body shots, but I can't hold my phone that far away, :p

I feel lucky. Juicing has been easy for me, with the exception of a few rough moments I had to white-knuckle my way through. I haven't slipped at all, though I had one or two fierce wanting-to moments.

Day 50 now, and 32 pounds. I really hope to shave off 13 more in the remaining 40 days, but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for the encouragement~!

I found another one from about day 30 or so:

I may get some pictures taken in June when the feast is done, and update then. Vanya keeps threatening to take some professionally with me. That might be fun.

Yeah, the old pictures on the transformation page are...scary. I know!

*Eve gets cute with her camera phone*

OK, so I didn't take any body shots before the feast. However, I went back through my emails and found two shots that were taken of me at my baptism last year, at the exact weight I was when I started the feast.

And just now, I snuck into the girly bathroom at work where they have a full-length mirror, and snapped two with my camera. Fun times, lol.

So here are the comparisons: Prior to fast, and 30 pounds lost on fast:

are you kidding me....???? are YOU KIDDING ME???
NOT DRAMATIC??? ....EVELEAF.... OMG....

Now see... this PROVES what I have believed all along. Many of us who have been heavy (fat) develop what I call 'fat mentality'. No matter HOW much we loose - when we look in the mirror - we STILL see the fat girl... and if we DO see changes... they appear to be MINOR....

wow... EVELEAF.... THE CHANGES ARE DRAMATIC. SERIOUSLY.

OKAY.... this is what I see.....
FIRST OF ALL.... Yes your face is dramatically thinner...
as result of this - the entire shape and dimensions of your face are changing...

You have beautiful eyes... You have ALWAYS HAD dramatic beautiful eyes..
BUT NOW... THEY LOOK HUGE!!! AND... of course they are the same size... it's the face that shrunk AROUND THEM....

so.... when others look at your face... they are drawn in by those big beautiful eyes... like deep pools of magic they are!!! mystery... what's behind those eyes??? makes one wonder! :D

as your face has slimmed down, it's like God is sculpting your face... defining the lines and the gentle feminine beauty is emerging.

it is CLEARLY VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE... that as the puffiness has left... POISONS are leaving your body. Your skin looks different... just from the photos (which clearly are not super close ups -- but yet you can still see....) the very texture of your skin is changing!!!

You've got this AMAZING GLOW happening... and it's obvious its coming from deeeep within. I see this same look on some women in the health food store. and I've (for many years) stared at them and thought ... Man- they just look so ... soo.... Goddess-like. Ethereal almost. What the heck?? What makes them looook like that??? could it just be all those stupid vegetables they're eating??? geeeze - I could never eat like that!!!

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/Snicker.gif ...heheheeeeee!!!

yes eveleaf... the difference is dramatic.
do me a favor... stand in front of the mirror and REALLY REALLY look at your self.... if you focus on something and think... oooo... I need to lose more there... or I wish those would go away..... STOP... look away --- take a breath... and look BACK at the mirror again and SEE the BEAUTY.... FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE..... THE AMAZING CHANGES THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE.... THE GLOW BABY.... FOCUS ON THE GLOW!!!

GEEEEEEZE GIRL.... NOT DRAMATIC???

you look amazing. simply AMAZING!!!
hats off to you.... what an AWESOME TESTIMONY... actually -- this is EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED TO SEE THIS MORNING... I needed a bit of a push and some encouragement and INSPIRATION.... thank you so much for posting these....

and sooo sorry to go rambling on and on and on...
but after all this time of knowing me eveleaf.... you know how much I gab!!

You are beautiful... congratulations on a job well done...
you are amazing....

Whoa baby ~ love the new shots ~ you are a transformation of raw power ! You started May 2007 correct ? and how much have you lost? If you had 3 important things to tell others what they be. You know, specific to sticking to raw and what helped you when there was some inner ( not intellectual ) temptation, if ya know what I mean.
You are beautiful and it shines from within .

Oh man, these are just the sweetest replies. :o

I have been raw about two years now, so that would mean I started May 2006. I kind of lose track. :)

So at my highest weight I was well over 300 pounds, and I've lost about 110 pounds now. I stalled in my weight loss for awhile, but this glorious Juice Feast is really helping to get me going again. :D

It's hard, oceanee, to give advice. I don't consider myself nearly as good at this "raw" thing as many others here. The two main things I try to do when I have a temptation are 1) pause. That means tell myself, yes, I can have it, but not yet. Say, in 10 minutes, I can have it. 2) Take those ten minutes and visualise all the different paths stretching outward from the choice I'm making in this moment. Like, if I do one thing, this is the path it sets my feet on, and here is the end of that path. I can choose the right thing, and look at the nice reward waiting for me. I can choose the wrong thing, and look at where that path ends up - not so great, you know?

oh yes you have. sit down and pat yourself on the back! this is a huge commitment not only to 3 months of your life but to your Self, your body, your spirit!

i am sooooo proud of you. i am starting a 92 day juice feast (and scared to death to do it as the thought of a colonic terrifies me and i know i have to do it when feasting...) but i know i can do it after reading your words here. thank YOU.

Wow 30 pounds in 45 days that is incredible!:D You must be so pleased!

I just finished a month of juice fasting and I lost only 14 pounds in 30 days and the last week and a half I lost nothing. It is funny how our bodies are all so different.

You look amazing!
I see a MAJOR change in your appearance and vitality.
You face and eyes are positively glowing!!!!!!
And you definitely look MUCH smaller!
Congratulations and keep up the great work!
You should be very proud of yourself.

I've lost a lot of weight myself, and am only a month and a half or so away from my ideal weight, but at times I still see myself as
the 'fat' girl, and don't feel as though the changes in appearance are
as dramatic as people keep telling me they are-it's a personal perception
thing, and this happens to a lot of people after they've lost a lot of weight,
they have a hard time seeing their bodies as they really are.
I think because I was so overweight for a few years, and I lost the weight
so quickly since this past fall, that my mental image of my what I look like,
hasn't kept up with the physical transformation.
Don't know if that makes any sense.:p

Btw,what/how much do you drink everyday,if you don't mind me asking?
Do you work out everyday, and if so,how do you keep your energy levels up?

Eveleaf
05-08-2008, 11:12 AM
I really truly appreciate all the encouragement!

Aleesha, hey girl. It's going really well. Overall, I would say this Juice Feast is *shorter* and *easier* by far than I expected. Initially, 90 days seemed like an eternity, and I resolved to do only 30 or 40. I did a ton of reading and preparing myself mentally for it, and made up my mind 100% that I WOULD NOT CHEAT, even a teensy tiny bit, during my fast. I wanted the challenge. I needed to prove to myself that I could do it. And the first few days *were* quite an adjustment - I had some detox headaches, dizziness, bad hunger, etc. And wow - it took like two hours every day to make the juice! I thought, this is nearly impossible! However, once I got into the routine of it, it became like second nature. And I realised, 90 days is just a blink of time. It's really just one day. And then one day more.

I think the NO CHEATING thing is key. I remember seeing a movie as a kid, wherein these people had taken medical treatments that made it possible for them to grow gills to breathe underwater. The catch was, their bodies wouldn't make the transition *unless they drowned*. So they had to submerge themselves in water to the point of drowning, at which point their bodies would release the hormones that grew gills and boom, they could breathe underwater. But if they couldn't take the struggle and panic, if they came up for air prior to that point, they would never grow gills. They had to control their own panic and get past the necessary threshold.

I took that same approach to the juice fast. I knew the first few days, weeks even, would be rough as my body learned to adjust to a liquid diet. I knew what my body did not yet, that it *could* be sustained on juices. I had to control my stomach's panic (and the emotional deprivation) at not having food in it long enough for the transformation to kick in and calm to be restored. If I ate, that would only trigger my regular appetite and set me back in my goal. This worked, and now things are really quite easy.

Your last question is kind of funny though, because I *don't* keep it fresh and yummy. The focus is almost entirely off the palate at this point. I drink mainly green juices, and rotate my greens like crazy, but even then it usually tastes exactly the same to me. But after awhile, it's like your taste buds just go into hibernation or something. There is really not this constant drive to please or amuse them anymore. I liken it to being hooked up to a feeding tube or something - you are being perfectly sustained, afterall. I do drink fruit juices in small amounts twice a day (maybe two cups, total), but even those, which I logically know taste good, have ceased to really please me. I don't crave them, I just drink them because I know they are good for me.

I should stress that this happened gradually, and at first I really did have to struggle with my desire to have yummy juices all the time. There was a week when I had to add a drop of stevia and mint extract to all my green juices because otherwise I just couldn't get them down anymore. I think that was my second or third week. Also, I am confident that once I start eating again, my taste buds will leap back into play and I'll have to prepare mentally for that, or it could be quite overwhelming.

Hi Morn!

Wow, I am so thrilled that you posted here, because you are one of my raw food heros! I have read your journal online and gaped open-mouthed at your pictures more times than I can count. Watching *you* fast and the tremendous benefit it has had on your life was key for me in deciding to undertake one myself.

I think I am losing more weight simply because I have so much more to lose. I'm at *least* 50 pounds above my ideal weight still, perhaps more. But yes, I am very pleased with the progress so far and hope to maintain a modest loss for the rest of the fast.

I see you doing the MC a lot - how do you think that compares to juice fasting?

Eve

Tepiglet -

I really identified with what you said, about not feeling anywhere near as thin as you have become. That's me all over!

I have a friend who is really quite overweight who confided in me that she avoids mirrors because she prefers the "false" body image she carries around in her head - of herself as a petite little thing. She'll catch a glimpse of herself in the mirror and think, "Who is that?"

Well, I feel like I carry around a "false" body image too, and it's of me a lot larger! I just don't know what to do with this new body, and I really mean that. I think I still walk like I'm heavier, carry myself like I'm heavier, dress like I'm heavier (dark colours, baggy fit)! I don't see myself at this new lower weight AT ALL.

IRT your other questions, I should state upfront that this is not a perfect Juice Feast by the standards recommended on www.juicefeasting.com. I do my best, but my body just wants different things, and to some extent, I go with that. I don't drink the recommended gallon a day, and I don't drink early, because my body really loves to fast in the morning and only start eating/drinking in the afternoon. That said. If you are doing a Feast, please do try to do it the proper way. I really did try, for the first few weeks, to completely follow the guidelines. It just wasn't working for me.

I make everyday:

4 Pints Green Juice
celery, cucumber, apple, and 2 pounds rotating greens including alfalfa sprouts, clover sprouts, spinach, green & red leaf lettuce, romaine, kale, bok choy, parsley, arugula, mixed organic greens. Sometimes includes coconut water.

2 Pints Fruit Juice
Sometimes straight melon, sometimes carrot/red pepper/apple/pineapple, and more often apple/orange/ginger/grapefruit with a handful of fresh berries if I can find them.

However, I don't drink anywhere near this much everyday. I usually have 1 pint green around 1pm, 1 cup fruit around 2pm. Then maybe another 1 pint green at 4-5pm, followed by another 1 cup fruit. Some days I'll get in another green drink before bed in the evening, but most of the time, I feel like it's too much. So I end up saving some juice for the next day, or just throwing it out. But I continue making tons anyway because I need to know it's there, fresh and waiting in my fridge, should I actually get hungry and need it. You know?

By the way, I do supplement as they recommend on the website. I drink 1 pint of lemon water every morning, and take with it plenty of MSM, green powder, a digestive enzyme, spirulina, and ACV. In addition, to one of my green drinks I add 1/4 tsp kelp or dulse granules, and to one of the fruit juices I add 1 T bee pollen. Some days, if I feel the need, I'll also take a little flax oil, celtic sea salt, raw honey, and/or royal jelly. These are all allowed on a juice feast.

I don't have a formal workout schedule, but I do dance everyday, just for the sheer joy of it, in the afternoons. I haven't had any problems with energy - I usually have more of it than I did when I wasn't fasting. More pronounced is the *availability* of energy. If I was tired or worn out before, the last thing I'd want to do is *eat*, even raw food, because this would sap my energy while my body went to work digesting it. Now though, if I'm feeling a little bit tired, a sip or two of juice turns that immediately around! I feel a huge SURGE of energy the very moment I start to drink. I really, really love that.

I hope this answers your questions, but if not, feel free to ask anything. :)

eve,

thank you so much for all the great info you've shared. i found during my recent 20 day green smoothie feast that i lost the desire to drink my smoothies as nothing tasted good anymore... i never thought of it the way you explained it though. that makes so much sense to me and now i won't struggle with that this time around. last time i thought it meant i was 'losing the race' so to speak LOL now i'll look at that as an achievement!

i never cheat when i fast/feast so that won't be a problem for me.

i especially like how you said... today is one day ... then the next today is one day as well. 90 days is a blink of an eye...

good point... i'm going to remember that when i'm doing mine! i'm counting down the days now. ;) what day are you on??? edited to add: okay you are around day 50ish. ;) we'll be travelling this road together for a bit then!

Eveleaf
05-08-2008, 04:34 PM
Good for you~! I always took it for granted that a fast meant no cheating, period. Then reading the blogs of some of the people "fasting" with me was a real eye-opener. So many "fasters" thought nothing of eating a little bit here or there, and still saying they were on a fast!

This absolutely astonished me. How can you jump through the rabbit hole if you keep one foot on the grass? I didn't want a *hint* of the adventure - I wanted the whole thing! :) And I would venture to say that near 99% of the 'cheaters' always failed to make 90 days, and most of them couldn't even hold out for 30. It makes a HUGE difference!

A few times I have had that niggling temptation to eat something - a bite of something, only. I'll hear a voice in my head saying, "Will one little bite kill you?" Immediately I'll counter with, "Am I ready to be DONE with my fast?" And of course, I'm not. So I don't eat it.

I'm so excited for your fast to begin. When do you start? I'm on day...56 here. It's hard to keep track anymore, lol. :D

Aleesha Sattva
05-08-2008, 04:48 PM
i was planning on starting june 1st but i'm thinking of changing that to the 15th of may. that's in one week. i figure i can get my fill of my "food of choice" right now before i dive into juices LOL

i was very unhappy with the way i ended my green smoothie/water fast... i ate some cooked food and all in all... i did not consider it a success. binging is a problem i've had with every fast/feast i've done since august 07... so i'm working hard on removing that... this is why i want to do a juice feast... to erase the 'false end' and replace it with a healthy feast and a healthy ending!

i'm working (right now) on releasing the addiction of 'ending badly' and so this time around will be different. WILL BE. period. :)

so if all goes as planned... i'll be joining you around day 63 for you!

Wow!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your juice fasting/feasting
help.
That was very kind of you.:)

I sincerely admire your spirit, tenacity, and determination.

I identify with so much of what you said too.
Up until around month three of losing weight,I scrupulously
avoided any and all mirrors, because for the longest time I was
deluding myself, that I wasn't really as big as I was.
I read somewhere that after losing all or most of the weight,
that it can take 18 months for the perception of most dieters
to catch up with the reality of their new bodies, meaning that
most of us still perceive ourselves as very overweight, even though
that's not the case.

Apparently, that is one of the reasons that people gain back the excess
weight.

I don't wear baggy clothes much anymore-although I still have days that
I do that,when I'm feeling insecure.
Though for the longest time, even after I'd lost quite a bit of weight,
I acted and dressed as though I was still at my heaviest-I just felt
so out of touch with my own body.

Recently I started bellydance and yoga classes,in addition to cardio and weight training, and this has helped quite a bit with the mind body perception/connection.
Unfortunately,I broke my tailbone a week ago,so all exercise is on hold temporarily.
So,I thought that this would be an ideal time to speed up weightloss for the
last pounds that I want to lose.
Juice feasting/fasting sounds very healing internally too.

Could you tell me how much msm, green powder, spirulina, enzymes,ACV,etc. you use
on average?
Also,is hemp protein allowed on a juice feast/fast?
I'll check out the site for more info;thanks for the link.

And again, thanks so much for sharing all your juicing fasting tips.
You look amazing girl!:D

Tepiglet,

I take a lot of MSM - usually about 1-2T in my lemon water. The tiny little scoop that came in my bottle would maybe hold 1/4 tsp, lol. However, I know people that take more than I do! A lot of people don't see any improvement in their skin/nails/hair etc unless they take gobs. This is about as much as I can handle in my drink - it's strong stuff! :)

I take only about 1/2 tsp green powder 1/2 tsp spirulina. If I wasn't juice feasting I might be inclined to take more. But on the feast I'm already juicing 2 pounds of greens a day, so I don't see the need.

One enzyme capsule only, taken on an empty stomach in the morning, acts like a mini-cleanse. I'm not digesting food anyway, so that's all I need. The ACV is really for weight loss, and I take 2 tsp of that a day. You could take up to 2T a day, but it's sooo strong tasting, this is all I can get down. Even with hibernating taste buds! :D

To the best of my knowledge, hemp protein would not be allowed on a fast. Hemp oil is recommended over any other kind of oil (including flax or coconut oil), but flax oil was the only kind I could get my hands on.

At www.juicefeasting.com, they have a wealth of information available if you sign up for a subscription. I would recommend getting the 30 day one if money is an issue, and then just reading everything you can before your subscription runs out. :) But by all means, get what you can. They have daily videos, articles, tips and tricks and inspirational reading - it's amazing how much stuff they offer for the feaster. Wonderful! More super resources are www.globaljuicefeast.com (tons of feasters hang out there, good blogs to read, but be warned that there are also a lot of people who fail their fasts, and cheat, so that can be discouraging to read about) and Angela Stoke's e-book, "A Juice Feaster's Handbook" on www.rawreform.com. If you have the time, you could even comb through her blog from a year or two ago when she did her own 92-day feast. But most of the info would be in her e-book anyway.

I like what you said about the 18 month thing - hopefully this discomfort and disconnection will be short-lived, then! :)

eve,

i've just re-read this thread. i'm in need of some support and i'm hoping you can gift it to me.

i'm having a very hard time. every since i went through my detox last week i've struggled... and struggled every evening to stay on this feast. i'm fine during the day... it about 4pm when i start to have a hard time.

i want to do this... but i need this struggle to end. you said you struggled at first... what changed for you? do you know or did it just simply change?

any idea approx when? you mentioned that for the second and third week things were tough... i'm on day 15 today. i have told myself that no matter what... i'm definitely doing 21 days. but really i want to do all 92.

help...

off to read your blog...

Well you mentioned several times that you have a history of ending fasts badly. This fast is supposed to end gently, on prunes. Have you bought any? Because I didn't, and that helped me greatly. I don't have an "exit", you know? And after 15 days, you know how rough on your stomach even a little solid food would be? It would make you ill. That's what I kept telling myself - that I was struggling through to that place where even a little food would make me sick (yes, that was the goal) and where my body is perfectly happy and satisfied on juice.

I would also take this opportunity to shake things up a little. After 15 days you are probably falling into a bit of a "routine" - when do you drink green juice, and how much of it do you drink? What other juices do you enjoy? You need to try a few new things. Have you had sweet potato/apple/cinnamon? It's really very good, and even a little will make you feel like you've just had a piece of apple pie. Or try tomato/basil/garlic, with a little sea salt and cold-pressed oil thrown in. That's like a very rich soup. I would also suggest mixing up your greens as much as possible, just in case some of your cravings are actually based on missing nutrients.

thanks eve! i always have prunes in the house but i'm not worried about an escape route. i've already made the decision that when i do end... it'll be on a good day not a bad one. :P

so you didn't feel this eh? darned, i was hoping you had a magick answer for me LOL

i am shaking things up quite a bit but i sure haven't tried those juice combos you mentioned. i am going to though... go buy the ingredients today!!! thanks!!!

day 16... i can do this. i can do this. i can do this.

see right now... early in the day i feel like i can do this forever...

oh you asked about my juices.

i'm adding MSM and spirulina to my day.

i have two fruit and one green juice a day. lightening up on my greens actually cause i was having trouble getting them down and keeping them down.

i drink a LOT a day though. 40-60 oz of green juice and about 100 oz of fruit... and then water of course. 40 oz first thing in the morning and then another 60 oz or more throughout the day.

Aleesha Sattva
05-26-2008, 08:39 PM
oh eve i am in loooove with the tomato combo... do you have any others up your sleeve? i'm trying the sweet pot one tomorrow!

My all-time favourite is 5 apples, 5 oranges, 2 grapefruit, and a thick chunk of ginger. It's very strong but SO good.

My second favourite is 1 pineapple, 5 apples, 2 red peppers, and 5 large carrots. Don't skimp on the pineapple and red pepper, because they are fantastic together. Surprising, but true.

No, I ABSOLUTELY have tough times when I want to quit. Some days are a nightmare. Today is one. Money is extremely tight and I haven't been able to afford groceries in two weeks. My ex-husband spent all my money and so my (May) rent check bounced. The company I work for is folding and I have to look for a new job. Stress? You bet. I have had less than 20 oz juice a day for the last five days. I am very hungry and struggling like you would not believe. I keep thinking, 75 days is good, isn't it? That's a nice number. We have food at home - canned stuff, bread, eggs. I could eat. Then earlier today I made some green juice and it went bad, so I am down to 8 oz fruit juice today and I think, OMG how can I keep going like this? It's hard. Don't get me wrong, it can be VERY hard.

But then... I know this is just a feeling, and it will pass. Tomorrow morning when I wake up I'll be glad I stuck with it and toughed it out.

It is not a magic carpet ride. It's a hero's journey, full of struggle and difficulties to overcome. We can do this, hon. You be my hero, and I'll be yours. :)

WOW! You looko absolutely amazing!!!

You are a HUGE inspiration. I have been struggling with raw for many months now and I'm not doing so good. As a matter of fact, I think this morning I had a mental breakdown about how aweful I feel these days.

I truly think I need to do a fast to cleans my body and I bet I'll be much more successful with raw once I get all the aweful toxins and SAD cravings out of my body.

So how are you doing these days? Still on the juice feast or off now? I would love to do a juice feast but there is no way I could afford that now. I am thinking of doing the master cleanse. I've tried it before unsuccessfully but I am desperate, I think I have the motivation now.

Keep up the good work, you are gorgeouse girl!!!!!!!
