Hi,
I will be taking a weekend trip starting tomorrow. I need some help staying raw away from home and on budget. What are some good food that does not require a refrigerator and easy to prepare in hotel? Are there any great salad dressing I can bring?

I'm interested too. We're hoping to fly to Merida, Mexico in December. How on earth am I going to do raw in flight?? The trip takes about 18 hours in and out of airports and flights. As you know, you aren't allowed to pack water on the plane or any sort of veg, fruit or seed into another country. I've seen people have to throw away a baggie of apple slices. Any suggestions other than an airport water-fast:p ?

As for local trips I would take little boxes of seeds and nuts, fresh fruit and a paring knife. A box of organic baby greens for instant salad, and a couple fresh limes for dressing. You could take a small cooler depending on your climate.
If you go out to eat, try asking for "Fatoush" a delicious Lebanese salad of raw crunchy vegetables and tomatoes tossed with mint, lemon juice and olive oil. Tell them to hold the pita chips.

do you have time to prepare something before you go? You could make some eggless egg salad or some pates that could easily be added to salads, rolled up in lettuce leaves, or stuffed into sweet bell peppers! Or the spicy taco meat -- if you can make up a batch of that -- you can make some wonderful taco wraps and taco salads! just use salsa for your dressing... it's fabulous - quick and easy...
what kind of kitchen equipment will yu have available while you are traveling? is there a blender? or food processor? or will you be taking these things along with you?
Alissa has several wonderful salad dressings in her book that are quick and easy to prepare...
If you are somewhere there is a fridge and a freezer (like in a hotel room) ... you could make things - even marinara sauces to take with you...
or you could just stick with beautiful salads!!
Maybe make some pates or hummus and use that as a dip for chopped veggies... ??

A trip is a good time to stick to fresh fruits...or purchased local fruits/veggies...that you can just grab, cut and eat. It's a good time to just eat simpler for a few days or weeks. No harm done.
Just bring local stuff back to your hotel or whatever.....and put in those clear garbage bags in the room.....and leave in cool water (in the sink, bath.....or back of toilet...heh...heh.). They'll stay plenty cool through evaporative cooling. To be mobile....do the same thing...but with a cooler of ice....or just eat your food on the run. No biggie.

I'm going on a trip next Monday-Wednesday, and here's what I'm bringing:
-Onion Bread
-Avocados (buy them before their ripe, and you won't have to refridgerate)
-Kale chips (banana search for goddess chips recipe and you'll find them)
-Salad dressing (I use the leftover dressing from the kale chips and put it in those little travel shampoo bottles so I can keep one in my purse)
-Larabars (not ideal, but good in an emergency)
-Cashews (in a baggie to keep in my purse)
-Apples (I'm picky about which kinds of apples I like)
Then when I get there, I usually can get or find fresh fruit salad for breakfast, whether from a restaurant, the hotel, or a local grocery store. I will eat salad for lunch, topped with my dressing and some avocado. Then dinner is onion bread topped with avocado (or another salad, with those thrown in too!). The rest of the stuff is good as snacks.
That's a lot heavier than I usually eat at home, but I find that traveling and trips really stirs up my psychological cravings, so it's better if I have plenty of heavy food to keep me from thinking longingly of whatever cooked junk is around.
There's my two cents for you. Good luck!! It's totally worth it to stay raw while traveling, by the way. No more swollen ankles/feet after the plane ride, and you'll feel much more fresh and light than you did on SAD. Have fun!

It's so much easier than it sounds.
Just bring lots of prepared raw foods with you.. dried fruit... trail mixes.. fresh fruit.
You don't have to go through customs until you are actually in Mexico so you're allowed to bring the food on the airplane with you.

I recently took a five hour road trip and here are some things I bought along:
-Lots of Fruit
-Salad
-Collard Greens for wraps
-Marinated Portabella mushrooms and onions
-Avacodos (For salads and collard wraps)
-Zucchini and carrots that were chopped in the food processor (for the Collard Wraps)
-Sun Burgers
-Onion Bread
-Raw Ketchup
-Date Nut Torte
-Almonds & Raisins for snacking
-Salad Dressing (was not RAW though)
I packed a cooler with ice and everything stayed perfect until the last day when the bread got soggy.
The best thing is that a friend met me at the hotel. She flew in and I drove. When she got there, she was going to order from Room Service and I told her to let me fix you a plate and she simply LOVED the food!!!!!!! I have converted another person in my life to RAW!!!!!!

I used to pack all sorts fo the above mentioned things for weeknd or longer trips, but now I travel more lie David says--the simpler the better...lots of fresh fruit and maybe some cut up veggies. And now, if I take a flight, which is usally an all day proposition what with getting to the airport and all, and then waiting around, etc., I just water fast. It's the perfect time to just not eat. I'm not expending much physical energy, I don't have to think much, so I just let my system rest while I travel. 'Works for me.
However, I know nothing experientially about international travel.
