Weight loss slow for past maybe 8 weeks. Trainer today said I need increase my protein so that I can gain muscle for more weight loss results. Hope I am saying this right but basically need figure out what more protein items I would need and he couldn't explain.

I am still losing inches since end of August. Training sessions since Aug. weekly ended today. May do more but every few weeks only. I like that he continues to teach me lots.

Any suggestions on protein items?

I don't eat much nuts/avocados but fat % going down. Still I want to get more down. Any suggestions? I can't run right now as I have perhaps a calf muscle pulled when I thought it was a tendon or ligament behind knee. Off to post about that challenge.

Thanks.

How long did it take you to gain that weight?

Lift and Rev,
Surely it took years to be surprised at how much weight I gained. I was SHOCKED!

I look better now then in years having the trainer, learning the right moves, etc. I must give him credit, but myself too for action, however he could have been attributable to my injury I wrote of today: pulled calf?

Lift,
I have done green smoothies and love them. I just have to return back to 2x daily vs. once. I tend to eat lots of fruits so wonder if I can add some flavors with greens of various kinds and cut a little back on the fruit?

Thanks you all. You are a blessing.

carolg...off to see Michael Beckwith tonight in CO.

more protein? how about adding some chia seeds to your smoothies?

The seeds have twice the protein of any other seed or grain, five times the calcium of milk, boron which is trace mineral that helps transfer calcium into your bones, omega 3 and omega 6 which are essential oils for the body. They also have a very long list of valuable nutrients in them naturally. The soluble fiber in the gel forms a wall between carbohydrates and the body, releasing them slowly into the body. This has been found to be very helpful for people who have trouble controlling their sugar levels like Diabetics. Dieters love the seeds because it can be added to any food or drink in a ratio of 75% to the volume of food or drink and will not change the taste. Because the carbohydrates are released slowly you will get the feeling of being full. Many use the seeds as a way to control their appetites. The gel has no taste.

Chia seeds. Didn't think about that and can surely find them local. I also have hemp seeds so can add that.

I'm wondering if I really need more protein to lose weight? Trainer said I need more protein so that I can start burning more.

Anyone know that as a fact?

Thanks.

Well yes, you do need ample protein to gain muscle mass. I'm not sure how one figures out their ideal amount of daily protein. You also need ample calories so that the muscle you do have can stay alive (each pound of muscle uses a lot of calories just being there, which is why it's so important for weight loss).

Reason they said that is because the ingestion of small amounts of protein at every meal speeds up your metabolism so you will burn more calories. But there are ways of getting in more protein on the raw diet by way of superfoods like hemp seed protein powder, the algaes like spirulina and blue-green algae, or other green grasses combos, certain sprouted beans, seeds, some simple soaked nuts if you can tolerate them, and grains(like buckwheat and quinoa). But what is really even more important for vegetable protein is getting in lots of dark dense greens at every opportunity one can. This is where green smoothies come in, and you can add the stuff I mentioned to the smoothies as well. I do hemp protein powder and flax seeds all the time in mine in the morning - it is fantastic and very filling as well. Also, the difference between animal protein and vegetable protein is that the vegetable protein, although lower in terms of how many grams of protein there is in say, this bunch of kale, is much more usable by the body than the animal protein which has to go through a whole other digestive trip without that much of it remaining to be used. Some digestive enzymes, I just found out this past weekend, are very useful in ensuring that we get the maximum amount of nutrition out of our raw food diets. Reason being that especially as we get older, our enzyme supply is largely used up by prior consumption of cooked foods of all sorts, leaving us in a depleted state, even when eating healthy.

Raw Singer and Cara,
Raw Singer, what you said is exactly how my trainer explained why I needed more protein. Now another person I met, a trainer, said this protein stuff is bunk.

Cara,
Thanks for detailed message. I do get tons of greens in my foods daily. I eat tons of veggies. I may have mentioned I love hemp seeds in smoothies. I wonder how one figures out how much protein is needed?

What kind of digestive enz. are you considering?

Appreciate you both sharing. What a team!

Thanks.

carol_g: a basic digestive enyme combo, that has 6-8 different ones that covers the bases for digesting fats, starches, proteins, etc. You can get these at any good health food store and they're not really expensive either. You see, from the fact that most of us are coming from often years of eating alot of cooked starches and proteins, we've used up much of our enzyme stores. Eating raw of course, and doing the enzymes as well as some probiotics(either supplemental, or in the form of raw cultured foods) will really help address these deficiencies and digestive issues. Another thing, many people have dropped a few pounds effortlessly doing this as well. I'm certainly going to get into this, not only for a bit of weight loss, but for general digestive health in dietary transition and refining things further. I'm already eating a high percentage of raw, working out, etc.

If your trainer cant even tell you what items are high in protein, maybe you should get a new trainer!

I recently listened/watched a YouTube video done by Tim Van Orden in which he, a 40-year old athlete raw vegan athlete, who is beating 20 year olds in stair running) talk about protein which of course, people ask where he gets it.

You might want to check it out. Go to YouTube and type in Tim Van Orden Protein (might come up that way ~ I hope)
