Do you have a sacred space in your house? I feel I need to create a sacred space, but I'm having trouble getting organized and starting it. Anyone want to share their stories re: their sacred space?

My whole house is sacred to me. My home IS my castle; if people don't honor that, (extremely rare) they don't get to come here or stay here.

At one time (MANY years ago) I was teaching qigong classes in my home. A student brought a potential student to the class. She saw a picture of my spiritual teacher and talked him down. She was asked to leave. Respect me; respect my home and whatever is in it. My life is sacred and everything in it as well.

I agree Revvell.

I do have some more sacred spaces than others though. My alter is in my living room as I love to sit and stare at it. I teach classes in this room, lead guided meditation etc. My meditation (for sitting meditation) in in another room... with another alter (that my cats take over when I'm not using it) LOL and yet another is my bedroom. I have 'symbols' painted onto the walls and this is where I do my 'laying' meditation.

When creating that 'sacred space' be sure to find somewhere which resonates strongly within you and a place where... you can enjoy this space for yourSelf. If your living room is a busy place, perhaps another location is better in your case. You are the only one who can make that decision.

Sacred space is very important to me. I have a couple of altars in my room and a fountain. I studied Feng Shui in China and had a thriving consulting business for a few years. It's incredibly important to feel grounded and having positive life force energy circulating in your home or work space...which should be sacred to everyone. It's where we create or at least I do. I'm in the process of moving and finding a more grounded space in a quieter, more spiritually aligned setting. It really throws my entire life out of balance if my home is not balanced. So I'm following the gentle nudgings of the Universe and am getting my move on once again.

That's what I am trying to do-find a place that is semi-quiet and that the kids won't be all over. This is a kinda new house to us (the house is almost 200 years old! LOL! ). It's been less than a year since our move and I just can't seem to find a place to quiet my mind. I have a couple of places outside, that are pretty and nice to sit at, but I can't use them in cold or rainy weather, so I really NEED a space inside.

I'm gonna keep working on this!

Use those outside spaces for now, and maybe after spending sometime in those Quiet places your mind will begin to visualize and indoor space in time for the change in season.

Hmmm. I wonder if that 200yr old house of yours has an attic you can call all your own? If it's on finished, so what. Used fabric and tapestry to cover the walls get a little cd player, yog mat, or futon, some candles and scent oils a plant or two and there you have it.

Working on making my bedroom the next sacred place. Morroccon stylings with lots of eccletic warmth(not clutter). I already have a quasi alter in my asian influenced living room.

Note that those pics above or just a visual. I'll do a complete board before I start and take before and after pics.

Right now my bedroom is just bare white walls with a shaker style cherry wood Cal King bed and a ton of laundry everywhere.

Not a respite, love shack or even a sacred sanctuary.

This Goddess/ Rawmasutra has got to have something special... because I'm worthy!!!:D

I want to create a Sacred Space in my bedroom. I was thinking of getting one of those Tibetan praying altars so I can have enough room to put all the things on there. Does anyone have any suggestions. Where did everyone get their altars at? Did you have to order online, did someone make them for you? Maybe you can help me RawHeaven. I'm going to get a Feng Shui book. Can you email me? Life, I'm really digging that bedroom too. That would be in my dream home.

Laundry-the evil nemesis to Sacred Space.

You see, that's what got me thinking a couple of weeks ago...I DESERVE to enjoy my home. I deserve to make my home a sacred space for peace and growth and serenity.

Right now my house is pretty disorganized and dusty-and with 6 people the laundry is like a textile tsunami.

I have a small altar that is a wooden chest with little drawers to put things in. (stones I find, mementos, etc) I found it at Costco! I have my family Buddha and a Tibetan bowl to ring on top...and some pix to inspire. It's rather small...but I have to say my true sacred space is my kitchen. I feel at peace there more than any room in the house. Laundry room not!;)
I say hire Lifeagift to decorate! Morrocan...now that's what I'm lovin'.

A friend gave us a wonderful book called Altar Your Space as a house warming gift. If you get to a bookshop have a looksee it's really inspiring.

OMG forgot i posted this visual. I kinda sort of got this going. definately the wallcolor some cool mediterranean/ mid east looking sconces going and new berber carpet even working some tourquise color on the bed and eyeing new window treatments. this is just the impetus I need to create a new vision board and finish my space.

Will have to share pics soon!

Mine is in my walk in closet. The kids know if I'm in there they can't interrupt. I have my meditation pillow and vision board. I find the small space is comforting and not as distracting as other rooms in my house. Also helps that I'm not a clothes hound.

Ah, a sacred space, so important. I currently don't have one and it shows in my demeanor. :(

Coincidentally, I was JUST writing of a similar thing in an email just before I came here and was coming to the personal growth section to start a thread about spirituality and it's evolution with a raw lifestyle.

I need a space to sit quietly and meditate. At the moment the weather is warm and mild here, so I can use the under cover area outside. I'll just have to give it a clean up.

Life, I love your space, hope you find many a quiet, peaceful moment within its walls. <3!

Oh wow forgot I shared on this thread.

My space in my bedroom is awesome though the bed needs making.
When the last kiddo moved I started making the guest bedroom/ office into another sort of respite/ tranquil work space. It's full of laundry now but the wall color, lighting and window treatments are just right plus I put up a map to help with my world visioning process.

Hmmm thinh I will go on a search for something (fabric and candles) to add to this space this week. The grown kiddos will be trailing in over the winter break and it sure would be nice if they too can enjoy a lovely space instead of 200 books and laundry all piled up.

I have an entire room that is my meditation room. It has a very large shrine. I am Buddhist, and Buddhism is my favorite path. It's essential to have a sacred space that is your own in my opinion. Your mind and body will begin to connect the dots together, when you enter the room, you think "I'm about to improve myself". Doing that enough and eventually it becomes second nature. I think we all need a place devoted to improving ourself.

@damaru : would it be appropraite for you to share pics of you shrine? I'd be interested in seeing how you have appointed it.

This coming year I hope to strip down the old caravan and rebuild it as a gypsy van. That will then be my space.

@Conscious Midwife

9300

It looks complicated, but you can see the large gold Buddha as the main statue, then a number of other inspirational images surrounding. In order for a Buddhist shrine to be qualified, you should have representations of Buddhas body, speech, and mind. The body can be a statue or picture, the speech can be a buddhist text, and the mind is a representation of a stupa (the small silver statue beside buddha). In front are 7 water offering bowls. In the pic they are turned over b/c they aren't being used at the moment (my cat likes to get into them), but before we do a formal practice the water offering bowls are filled and represent 7 pure substances: water for drinking, flowers, incense, lights, perfume, food, and music.

Thx for asking!

Our home is a sacred space. I've moved twice since my last post in this thread.

We have a lovely alter in our bedroom. A selenite lamp is turned on daily - we chant as we turn it on. A fitting way to begin our day. We also have alters in other areas of our home and every room is filled with crystals. The energy is lovely and as Rev says, come into my home and respect the space or feel free to not come. We don't have anyone who comes here and doesn't respect (and appreciate) the space which is lovely.

We tend to only attract like-minded individuals.

Having these "items" around me isn't nec. But they are a lovely reminder visually for us.
