Welcome to the May raw food challenge!

If you are not familiar with how these work, you basically just document your (RAW) intake each day (a new thread will be created by me each day), how you're feeling, etc and give and get support.

Per the rules (sticky posting) you are not to post your cooked food slip-ups here in the challenge threads - those are better suited to your journal and if you're really having a time of it and need some help with cooked food issues, please post about in the main Raw and Living Food Discussion forum area...but please, not here...thanks!

So, have fun and have a wonderful day!

Good morning and Happy Day number 1 everyone. This will be a 'special' month for me as my DH's birthday is the 15th and my oldest son's birthday is May 30th. I survived my birthday in April with NO cooked treats so I can do it this month too! Plan to ingest more greens in my smoothies and even in my raw soups this month too. Very excited to get started! Yah May! Have a great raw day everyone:)

Hi Everyone!

I am on vacation for the next few days so I'm looking forward to getting myself back on track. I think that I struggled a bit last month because I failed to plan ahead, so that's going to be my focus this month.

I am starting the day with a pina colada and then have some raw pistachios and an apple before lunch. I am starting a raw class today so there will be plenty of good food later on! :)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hello all!

Having no decent blender (yet) I started the day with water and lemon. I'm now having a huge salad mostly out of our garden.

I'm going to attempt to dig the 30 year old blender out of the garage and see if I can at least do a green smoothie with romaine. I know it won't make it through kale. I can't wait to get my vita mix later on this month!

I haven't planned out the rest of the day, but I'm thinking some kind of raw beet salad since our beets need to be thinned. I also picked 4 kohlrabi yesterday that I might add.

Hi all. I tried this last month and it went well until I went to NY for vacation. For some reason, raw was hard to stick to after I came back. Also some medical issues going on with me - so maybe I just didn't fight for it hard enough.

Anyway, another Day 1 for me. Looking forward to getting to that superior health thing.

Also, I read a few blogs on www.goneraw about women that aren't using shampoo in their hair. You are supposed to just rinse and go. Supposedly, your hair looks really bad for two months as all the build up slowly comes off, but then it looks really gorgeous. I am on day four right now, and my hair looks NASTY! I have long hair and I have been doing cardio the last few mornings - so my hair is just a greasy smelly mess. However, I am intent to see this no shampoo thing for two months to see if I get that lustrous hair things they are talking about on the chat group. Will keep you updated.

Good luck to us all!

Yay day one!

I was very proud of myself last night. I'm up late with my newborn a lot and usually that's when non-raw cravings will start whispering in my ear (ie pb&j or vegan chips) and it was after midnight so I grabbed some grapes instead!!

Since I go to sleep late, I wake up late. So now I'm sipping on a GS-mango/orange/strawberry/cashews/coconut oil/spinach

for lunch I'll have a plate of veggies and for dinner a salad.

I know I can do this! I plan on booking a sweet massage June 1st for when I complete this challenge!!

Woke up and was feeling great. I started my day off with a green smoothie, of course. However, I was out of my good greens (kale, chard, collards) and had to resort to my other greens (lettuce, lettuce, and some other lettuce) and I'm not sure if I really notice a difference, but I will say that I'm extremely hungry today????
On the horizon for the day: fruits, flax crackers with cultured cashew cheese/pesto sauce and maybe a raw marinara over zucchini and raw parm. should be fabulous.
Oh, and for exercise, maybe some step aerobics or running. whatever I can fit in as long as I do it, right??? ; )

have a great raw day!!

Hey Everybody!

It's so good to see so many people on here! Rawk on!

My plan for today was to leave work early and hit the gym for a cardio class, but somehow the day has gotten away from me and it's already 4! So instead I'll take my dog on a long ramble later. He'll be happy about that!

Food today has been weird. I started with an orange, and then had cashews and kombucha for lunch. I have a green smoothie with me, that I think I'll dig into now, and then later this evening I may have carrots with zucchini hummus. I really need to do some uncooking tonight to make sure I have enough staples for my trip next week. I also need to figure out ways to up my greens intake. I'll try to make some kale chips tonight if I have time.

Keep it up kiddos!!

The wind really saps my energy and drains my mood BUT eating RAW is a BOOST!!!

I started morning out with a bit of fruit/green smoothie leftover from last nite... prolly not alot of live enzymes crawling around in there but it still TASTED yum!

And then an orange for lunch and some of my raisin/walnut/strawberry creme pate...

Right now I've just polished off a nori roll (nori sheet, cauliflower "rice", tomato, avocado and Bragg's for flavor)... and am slirping down some cremey tomato soup-of-sorts (just two roma tomatos, a slice of onion and some sea salt blended up fast)

I'M ALIVE!!!! :-D

Made it through my day with a green smoothie(apple, collard greens, lemon, celery, romaine and anything else i could find to through in) for breakfast.

I felt overwhelmed trying some of the recipes today, spent the whole day in the kitchen, except when i went to the store and bought up everything there including new blender and dehydrator.

I finally got a grip on myself and made it to lunch of a large salad filled with romaine, carrots, and other veggies. Even managed to make some cucumber salad dressing, not bad.:D Ending the day with another green smoothie and nuts.:D sweet dreams.:)

Hey! It's May 1st and I'm joining in! My birthday is on the 8th, so this is a good birthday present :)
Today I've been drinking fresh grapefruit juice and had a spoonful of hemp seeds so far. I brought a ton of fruit and a young coconut with me to school. I'm going to go for green smoothies and/or salad as often as possible - the smoothies kept me really full and satisfied in school last term. I'm glad so many of you are into green smoothies! I'm joining in on a call with Victoria Boutenko in about an hour; she's one of my heros.

Here's to a great raw month!

Well, I woke up and felt like crap this morning. :( So much so that I had to take off half a day of work. However, I'm still raw. Yaaaay, me! :D Today I've had about 1 1/4 quarts of green smoothie (spinach, bananas, strawberries, a little agave, and coconut oil), 1 6-oz package of Trader Joe's mango slices, 3 Tbsps. raw pumpkin seeds and 2 Tbsps. nutritional yeast. I guess nutritional yeast is technically not raw, but I use it as a B-vitamin supplement. So, I don't bother about the technicality for that. Also, I drank lots of water.

I will be out of town over the next few days. So, I'll have to post what I've eaten once I get back, because I won't have access to a laptop while I'm gone. I've got my sights on a raw restaurant while I'm away. So I should still be good to go for the May challenge.

Never got around to trying a smoothie on my ancient blender...things got too busy.

I had several salads and some peppermint tea. I'm totally wiped at 8:00 CST. I'm off to bed (before LOST, <gasp>). I hope to give a green smoothie a try tomorrow and have more energy. I also printed out a kale/avocado salad to try tomorrow since our kale is taking over and needs to be thinned.

good night rawbies!

Well upon entering grad school last fall I have not been overly successful at being 100% raw for quite some time, and now wouldn't you know I have gained about 10-12 lbs depending on the day. None of my clothes fit, and I am going on 3 big vacations this summer. I have been trying to lose and despite my best efforts nothing is coming off, so here goes my best attempt at staying raw through the toughest month of my graduate school to date. My goals for the month of May:
No alcohol
Excercise 5-7 days a week
All raw, all the time
And Low Fat Raw at that!!!
Liquid fast one day every week of May
A bit ambitious but I think I am up for the challenge. I am liquid fasting today, so my intake has been:
1 quart juice of 2 grapefruits, 1 cucumber, 1 lemon, 2 minnelos, 1 beet with greens
1 quart of miso soup
2 liters of lemon water
2 young coconut waters
tea.
Starting weight on May 1, 154 lbs
Goal weight 130 lbs

Argh! I was all ready for the May challenge and totally forgot it was May 1st today! LOL:rolleyes:

I am too preoccupied with all that is going on this week. My hubby leaves Sunday for 3 months of military training... :(

I am determined to get back on track this month! My goal is to be raw for these next 3 months for not only my health, but also a nice surprise for dh when he sees me again. :o

I will take it one day at a time, though. Tomorrow, here I come!

Oh, and Wendy, can I just say I am slightly jealous that you are actually picking things from your garden already. Where do you live?

Theogirl

Today was completely clean! Yay! DH was sweet enough to juice me two grapefruits for breakfast. Had lots of juicy red grapes too. Two bananas. The flesh of a baby coconut shared with my baby girl. The coconut water blended with a small ripe pineapple. A cacao concoction of ground flax, pecans, cacao, coconut oil. A huge salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow peppers, dill, acv and olive oil.
Lots of sinus drainage and elimination today. My eyesight is very clear today.

I'm here and it's not too late,..it's still May 1.

Well, the pantry is stocked well with raw food.

One thing, Rawkinnlocks, My almonds I know because of the pasturization law aren't truly raw, and so othe almond milk I make isn't, eaither. Does drinking my almond milk then, exclude me because it's not truly raw in the sense of the word? Do you know what I mean?

thanks for this thread. I hope my almonds don't keep me away!!

This should be a great challenge to be all raw for May. So far, doing perfectly 100 percent as of about one hour ago ( I had some almond milk that I made with store bought raw almonds, which, I understand isn't really raw, oh, well.)

*GS (green apples, spinach, lemon, maybe a cuke)
*Salad (spring mix, red bell pepper, avo, with zuke dressing (I've eaten this almost everyday for lunch and not sick of it yet...weird))
*dinner? not sure yet...we'll see how the day goes.....

Everyone have an awesome day!

Oh, and Wendy, can I just say I am slightly jealous that you are actually picking things from your garden already. Where do you live?

I'm in south Texas. It's already regularly in the 90's here!

I hope your dh's training goes by quickly. What a wonderful surprise for him when he returns after your three months raw!

I woke up with a headache. I failed to mention that May 1st was also the day I quit drinking coffee, lol. I felt great yesterday, no problem at all. Today the caffeine withdrawl is setting in, I fear.

I'm drinking lemon water now and plan to make a green smoothie in a bit. Wish me luck. I'll report back on whether my 30 year old avocado green osterizer makes it through :p

Hello Peeps!!!
Yesterday went excellent! and I lost almost 3 pounds. How is that possible? Well I did have a giant last supper/day of eating on April 30th...

My only problem was a giant headache in the second half of the day. I didn't take a tylenol though because I wanted to appreciate it, lol. Sick I know. But I thought just knowing what I used to put in my body is already coming back to bite me would help me stay raw in the future, and also it would help me not to regress since I would have to repeat such an unpleasant step down the road if I did.

Today, I am eating a bowl of mangoes so far.... I FREAKING LOVE mangoes! I will surely have another giant avo/green based salad...because I also FREAKING LOVE giant avo salads!

I never did get around to those kale chips, but I have all of the stuff to make jalepeno poppers....sounds like a nice friday nite treat. :)

Have an Awesome day...and WendyLouWho, I empathize with your head pain... ;)

Been up a while but haven't eaten yet. Looking toward a GS possibly maybe all fruit. On the road today so will be fixing a bag of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cashews & raisins. May mix up this seed concoction with some agave and cashew butter and carob. Had itbefore but without the pumpkin seeds. Yummy, a good chocolate fix. Salad for supper.

Have a great day and on into the weekend!!

Today's going to be a real challenge but I'm sure I'll prove successful!

Breakfast will be a green smoothie (pineapple, orange, banana, collards, parsley, flaxseed, berries).

Lunch will be a green salad w/salsa.

Dinner I'm thinking some kind of veggie juice like carrot/cucumber, or green lemonade.

Have a rawday everyone!

I'm a day late starting my challenge!!!

I was going good yesterday, had my smoothie for breakfast, and avo sandwich for lunch, them BOOM! My dh found out his place of business is closing the very next day!! Oh well...

Today I have had a blueberry/banana/evco smoothie for breakfast, a big salad for lunch and for dinner I don't know yet. I'm hoping that staying raw will help me cope better with stress!!

ughh I hate waking up with a headache! The left side of my head is throbbing. :(

I'm a little aggravated today I notice...not sure if it's any possible detox or solely b/c my stimulus check still hasn't made it's beautiful appearance. I was going to do some serious raw food shopping with that!

My fridge is looking mighty naked but so far I had some grapes and about to dig into an orange. Later I'll make a spinach/green salad and see what else I have left.

sigh...

I have a question though, does anyone drink tea?

***oh on a good note...I did lose 2 lbs!***

Where do I find the zuke recipe and jalapeno popper recipe?

So far: 2 madjool dates and some walnuts. My manbear wants me to go to a party at the Veterens Admin. So much junk there, so I'll bring some cut up pineapple for myself and a few date nut rolls in place of their desserts. And a book cause there's gonna be a bunch of old guys there! Woops! I forgot, I'm kind of an old gal!

Lets see if this works...it is from another thread...
I was inspired by SamuelWilson and decided to make some hot stuff! I've always loved jalapeno poppers so I wanted to make a raw version, so here it is...sorry...no pics.

one recipe Avocado Mayo (courtesy of www.living-foods.com)
1 cup pine nuts
1 large avocado
1 tbs. lemon juice
2 tbs. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. Celtic sea salt
6 medium pitted dates (3 packed tbs.) (I didn't use these though)
1/2 clove garlic

cut the tops off jalepeno and scoop out seeds (I found cutting a slit down the side of the jalepeno makes this and filling easier.

next take avo mayo and fill jalepeno's

dehydrate @105 for approx 5hrs or until somewhat soft.

I used about half the avo may recipe with about 8 jalapeno's

These are great! especially if you like spicy stuff. I didn't use dates in the may recipe because first I forgot and then when I tasted it w/o them I liked it so much I decided not to add them...I don't care much for dates anyway.

Hope you guys enjoy!

YUMMERS!!!!

Yes, the popper recipe is in the recipes section on this sight. Even though it's posted here, I would recommend reading that whole thread for extra pointers.

Also interested in the zucchini recipe now, maybe they mean Alissa's hummus?

Oh, and I drink tea...of the herbal, decaf variety, just plain, if you want to do it right, make sure your water isn't too hot. That being said, it probably falls into the grey category even still and is a personal judgement call.

I decided to do the challenge because, last week I lost 4 pounds and I gained it all back by eating non-raw 3 days in a row. I went out to eat. The funny thing is is that I didn't even like overeat or even eat alot. So, it's weird when you go non-organic/non-raw how fast you can gain weight back. But, even more important then that...I felt really crappy and I got all crabby. So, staying raw is important to me for my physical and mental health.
Yesterday, I did prety good just ate too many nuts....
Today, I've started with my green tea with lemon and honey. I plan on being gentler with my body. I still feel stuffed today probably from the nuts. So, my goal today is to workout, eat a salad and fruit only!
Thank you for the support :p

Hi!!

I started off the day with a huge green smoothie (1/4 lemon, 1/2 cuke, couple bunches of orgainc herb salad, and 2 bananas)

Pear, cantaloupe.

I have garlic hashbrowns in the dehydrator to snack on and will have a big salad for dinner.

I made green go go juice (30 oz) which consisted of cucumbers, carrots, kale, spinach and apples.

I have had a bunch of handfulls of almonds and made a little concotion (sp?) of cocoa, cocoa butter, agave, raisins and coconut for the craving. OMG!!! THE CRAVINGS ARE SOOOO BAD!!! But if I have my little mixture and just take a little spoonful when they hit I am ok. I don't have recipe I just dumped mixed and ate.

Tonight I will more than likely have a salad with loads of veggies. Going strong on DAY 2!!! :)

Garlic Hashbrowns??? PLEASE give the recipe!! Those sound awesome!!

I started my day with a Baraka bar, a raw food bar made locally here in Austin. It was pretty good, and just the mix of stuff I needed before a killer weight lifting class I took this morning. Then I had some cashews late morning and a big cup of green smoothie for lunch. For later I have zucchini hummus and carrot sticks, and melon and grapes.

Friday is usually my day off, but we're swamped with stuff at work, so I'll be working all day. That cuts into my uncooking time! But I've got onion bread going in my dehydrator (I really hate the way it makes my house smell, but it's still worth it!). I'm really going to try to make kale chips tonight. Then tomorrow I have to hit the grocery store to stock up for my trip.

Keep it raw everyone!! The headaches will pass!!

Well, not REALLY... since it's only my 5th official day raw. :) I'm actually hanging in there STRONG so far!

Started day out with a handful of nuts and raisins at John's house. It's his birthday and yet he STILL insists he will NOT take me out to eat because he doesnt' want me to be tempted at all. :)

For lunch, I just polished off the last of the walnut/raisin/strawberry torte and am slirping down a yummy mudslide (my new fave shake!) for a mid-day protein boost.

Will probably bring some raw sandwich fixings to work tonite and charge up before the shows... have to do two shows tonite so may need to pack some nibble stuff to keep myself going!!

I must post this:

All my life I've hated the taste of blueberries.

I bought some last week to throw in a smoothie for some Superfood flavor, and today my daughter and I dared each other to eat one raw.

IT'S GOOD!!!!

I guess what I always hated was the artificial blueberry flavor in pop-tarts, etc. Because these blueberries taste nothing like what I'm used to.

So right now on my plate I have a handful of blueberries and cut up oranges.

:p

Hi Carlsbad--
I found the recipe at goneraw.com. They are actually called garshbrowns (garlicyhasbrowns).

grate a sweet potato.

then blend 4 garlic cloves(I used less), 3/4 onion, 1 tsp cayenne (I used less), and 1/2 cup of oil.

Mix sweet potato and garlic oil together and dehydrate for 2 hrs or so, til they are the texture you like.

They are delicious, but still to much garlic for me. Next time I am going to cut the garlic down more.

I am liquid fasting again today, just felt right, but my stomach has been upset, not having my normal BM's like normal. I don't think I will fast tomorrow, I have a lot of work to get done over the weekend, and fasting makes me really lazy, lethargic and tired. I know it is the detox process, but I can't endure that and deal with the amount of work I will be accomplishing this weekend. I did wake up all stuffy and achey today which is really rare and it came out of the blue. I think my body is working on detox. Today I have consumed:
Miso soup broth
Juice of lettuce, apples, organges, snap peas, beets, ginger
MC drink with agave instead of maple syrup
Lots of water
I will have more juice, or miso or a coconut water before bed
Did 1 hour of moderatley intense cardio, some abs and hit the sauna for 30 minutes.
I am really proud of all of us for prioritizing our health. You goo all you little rawbies.

Hi...
Yes, my zucchini dressing is a take on Alissa's zucchini hummus, was missing ingredients (tahini) so I improvised and it was pretty yummy...I used it as a dip for my crackers and salad dressing...

2 zucchinis
1 clove garlic (large clove)
lemon juice (half lemon)
dill
scallions
sunflower seeds
sea salt
black pepper

whizzed it all up in the vitamix...

it was too garlicky for my 2 yo, but she ate it anyway....

I don't really measure, I just throw stuff in recipes...so not really sure about exact amounts....

Hey all! I didn't have time to check in yesterday, as the whole family was buzzing around, preparing for dh's departure Sunday. We ended up getting back at 5 p.m. leaving just 1 hr. before friends arrived for a going away party!

I had a headache yesterday and also today. I wonder if it has to do with raw or if it is my sinuses and things that are floating around in the air or possibly dehydration... It is strange how so many of us are having headaches! I am also not a coffee/caffeinated tea drinker, so I don't really know why.

Yesterday:

green smoothie w/red leaf lettuce, 2 bananas, 1/4 avo, 1/2 lemon
large salad from Subway w/no dressing (lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, green peppers) and water
large salad again for supper and raw oatmeal w/cocoa powder, banana, honey and 1/4 avo mashed in it-sounds gross but tasty! :) This was to prevent cravings for all the "goodies" that would be at the party.

Today:

I am happy to report that all I had last night was WATER. There were so many kids running around that no one questioned me. Nice. :D

breakfast: green smoothie, same as above
lunch: large salad (red leaf lettuce, portabello mushrooms marinated in Braggs, crushed garlic and lemon juice)
snack: banana ice cream! (frozen bananas in FP w/cocoa powder and coconut flakes and a little bit of water to help whip it all up)
supper: ?

Howdy everyone, I broke my fast last night instead of this morning. I was starving and miserable and it was mine and my sweeties date night, and I was so hungery and miserable that the evening was going to turn into a less then steller date night. We only get one a week and I was not about to make it miserable so I ate:
Big salad no fat
choc avo spinach pudding
some mango
date roll
strawberries and 1/2 nana
Kind of a lot to break a fast, I know.
Today I was at one of my profs houses and his partner made enchaladas and a beautiful salad, with many bottles of wine but I resited the wine and enchaladas. Today I ate:
Hazlenut butter with apricot jam on fruit nut mannna bread
Strawberries
GS with 2 nanna's and choc powder
Dried mango
2 Date Rolls
Big salad of red leaf lettuce, shitake mushrooms and a big tomatoe with no fat dressing
choc avo spinach pudding
small dinner salad with not raw dressing at my proffs house (needed to be polite and eat something he prepared for me)
1 hour jog/run!
I am thinking I need to start paying close attention to the rules of food combining, because everytime I eat something sweet after something savory I get REALLY bad gas and upset stomach. So tomorrow, I am going to try to stick to the rules of food combining. Wish me luck.

This raw journey is really amazing (I am almost at ninety days). Something happened this morning that I never thought would happen: I made a green smoothie WITHOUT bananas and it was delicious. Just spinach, parsley and two mangoes.

I always thought I needed all those bananas just to make it sweet enough but I guess now I don't. I could really taste all the greens in it and it was delicious.

Anyhow, everyone have a great day.

Hi everyone,

I didn't have much to each yesterday and not so hungry this morning either..
So, later I'll have a choc/banana smoothie and probably avocado, green salad and fruit the rest of the day..

Take care and have a great Sunday!;)

Just checking in!

Today I'm keeping it simple again-last night I treated myself to a new veggie peeler, cutting board (it's in the shape of a lemon!) and mini colander. Now I don't have to share and risk possible contamination.

Last night my back got really tight-so tight that I couldn't turn the faucet on in the sink or touch my knees!! It lasted only for about 10 minutes and it came out of the blue...I don't know what to attribute that to.

Today I'm hoping to escape for about a half hour and treat myself to an oxygen lounge session at a place up the street from me.

Have a rawsome day everyone!

Not really in the mood to eat. Had a banana for breakfast. Might brunch on crackers and raw fixings for lunch. Otherwise, might have myself a mono-diet day. :)

I'm also keeping it simple. At least for the first week before I get into all the great recipes.. I feel I need a good cleansing. So...today I'm going to eat pineapple all day and some guacamole in lettuce leaves tonight. Gone Raw has some great recipes so I'm going to make the onion bread. It takeas about 36 hrs. in the dehydrater. Have a fun day!

Hey Everyone,

Doing pretty good this morning has a GS

Banana
Baby lettuces
1 strawberry
1/2 cup water
2 slices of apple

YUMMY!

There is temptation all around me though. My husband is not Raw nor is he vegan or vegetarian. He eats SAD food all day. I have been a vegetarian for a while so meat is not tempting at all. But he does have a sweet tooth and there is a very large cookie on the stove with icing that I am trying so hard to resist. I decided to come back here to drink some tea and see what everyone is up to.

Hi there,

Dont' feel alone. I had to throw everything out and ask my hubby to not bring home any pastries. He too is not vegetarian let alone raw but, is happy I'm doing what feels right to me.
I have a sweet tooth too so, when he brings it home I tend to nibble on his stuff. So, far he hasn't brought anything home and as I get stronger it might be okay.
I'm glad he's supportive.
I have found Raw food chocolate snacks which are great: Larabar's, Raw Evolution Bars, and Active X. There are all raw and yummy :p

Keep up the good work!

Today, I'm going to try not to nibble all day long and get some discipline with myself. When I nibble all day I feel like I"m overeating and out of control.

So, I've had my Green Tea w/lemon & honey and Banana for breakfast and I'm going to try to hold off and not nibble and eat a Spinach salad for lunch and Fruit tonight.

I'll check in tonight and report my success :p

I so appreciate everyone's journaling of thier days. It's so helpful.

Thank you :)

Just dropping in to say

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/owlthing.gif Happy Sunday!!

Everyone is doing so great... Day 4 and it looks like we're goin strong!!

jenifae... I'm not sure about how to make a chocolate smoothie .... but I love this recipe...

2 cups coconut milk
1/2 to 1 cup young coconut meat (fresh - or frozen is okay too) But you want the young meat
1 Tablespoon of Agave or - to taste (i don't like mine that sweet)
1 Tablespoon of Carob powder
OR....
1 Tablespoon of cacao powder ... and if you use cacao - you will want to up the Agave a bit as cacao does not have a 'natural sweetness' to it like carob does
1 banana (I usually add a LOT MORE bananas - cuz I looove bananas!)
dash of vanilla -- or one vanilla bean

you can also throw in red raspberries, strawberries, baby spinach
and if it's too thick - cut it with some water

*also -- some people like to put sesame seeds in it... if you do that -- I would grind them first to a powder (use a coffee grinder).... otherwise you have all these little sesame seeds floating around in your smoothie!

I'm sure there are other recipes out there too!! but this is the one I use.

good luck!

EVERYONE HAVE A WONDERFUL SUNDAY... blessings to a successful day enjoying the RAWmacious LIFEstyle!!!

Wow starfire your recipe looks Amazing!!! I will have to try this, too bad I just ate a great big lunch otherwise this would be my meal. Anyway, today I woke up starving, which is really weird. I have been extra hungery lately, but the scale won't budge no matter what so today I am just letting myself eat anything and everything raw. So far that has meant:
Breakfast: 1/2tsp coconut oil first thing in the morning
fruit bow with 1 nana, meat of one very young coconut (hardly any meat:( 3 strawberries and some mango yum yum
1 small piece manna bread with some jam
Lunch:
dried persimmons
Lots of fabulous fresh hummus with veggies for a dippin
1/2 cup or so bowl of tahini, honey and raisins with a pinch of vanilla. (I love this candy concotion it reminds me of the halvah candy I lived on for a month while in Turkey)
Dinner ought to be a bit lighter than lunch considering the amount of fat and protein I have consumed today. I am thinking portabella mushroom stuffed with marinated tomatoes, basil, and onions over a bed of greens and some fruit.
Dinner was:
1 portabellas mushroom with greens and tomatoes and onions
Apple Sauce with raisins
nibbles of dried fruit and bite of avo
and some raw candy treats
O.K so not super light but sort of when in comparison to lunch. Did one hour of yoga and will go for a 30-45 min walk later after I get some work done. The scale yesterday was at 150.4 after waking at 9 am and a bm. Today it was at 151.0 at 8 am with out a BM. I don't know why this weight is sticking to my frame so tenaciously. I am frusterated but trying my best to not let it get me down. I know I need to consume less, but when I get hungery it is so hard to not eat, or stop when I am just barely satisfied. Oh well anyway have a great day all and I will check in later.

Jenifae, this is a choco/banana smoothie recipe I use and love:

1c. water
1c. ice
1-2 frozen bananas (peel and slice them up before freezing)
pinch salt
dash vanilla
bit of agave
1/2 c. almonds
1 1/2 T cacao powder
Blend well, yum!

So far today: grapes, banana w/ cashew butter, raisins, prunes....I'll make a GS tonight and probably a choco/banana smoothie.

I am still here! I did fine up until dinnertime, but I need to go easy on myself as my husband just left us for military training (I feel I have to add "military training" all the time, as I don't want anyone to think he just up and left us! LOL)

I am ready to go for tomorrow, though! I made some "nacho suncheeze" (Zaphirah's recipe), onion bread... Mmmm! It is really neat how I am actually craving that stuff. :D

Here it is day 4 already. Yesterday I forgot to post, but was a very good day. We went to a birthday party that had lots of snicky snacks and cake. Me....all I had was veggies and water. Not as difficult as I thought it would be. However, the cravings are still pretty bad.

Today I ate.
Smoothie: strawberries, almonds, pear,water
lots of very ripe very tastee watermelon
for dinner a large salad
some handfulls of nuts and raisins.

Does anyone know how long the cravings will go on? I crave sugar usually in the form of chocolate so I am off to make a double batch of Raw Nestle Bars that someone from this site developed. Sorry at the moment I can't remember who it is.

YAAAAAAAA!!!! US FOR MAKING IT TO DAY 4!!!

Well,

Today I stayed Raw but, as I said I feel like I am overeating. Does anyone have any help with that? Maybe, I shouldn't eat these raw candy bars

Breakfast: Green Tea w/lemon & honey and 2 small banana's

Lunch: Huge Salad - Spinach, Red Cabbage, 6 baby carrots, broccoli, handful of raw sunflower seeds, and 1 whole avocado  with Braggs new organic vinegerette.

Snack: 1 Raw Active X Peanut Butter/Chocolate bar

Unless you're 4'2" tall, I can't see how being 129 lbs is so horrible! *laughs* Here, I'm not one to be talking. But I have battled anorexia for a year now, and girlie, it's POINTLESS.

So... get your mind OFF weight and get it ON HEALTH!!! Focus on HEALTH, focus on HAPPINESS, focus on LETTING GO...

Also, just wanted to note, the last time I was 100% raw, I failed because I didn't eat ENOUGH. I hated appearing to eat all the time (which raw requires for beginners!!!)...

DON'T make that mistake if you can help it - even Alissa says EAT LOTS in the beginning to get your body used to the major transition from cooked, crappy food to raw, WONDERFUL food!!

Beautiful Ohio day!

I can't believe how soundly I've been sleeping-I mean seriously!! My raw diet is affecting my dh in awesome ways-I really didn't think he'd want smoothies for breakfast and salad for lunch! Now if I can change...just kidding.;)

Been experimenting with coconut and coconut oil-why haven't I ever eaten this before-other than a mounds bar at halloween-time? I love it! I'm a little wary though of the calories/saturated fat-but a little should be fine!

B-fruit/coconut smoothie
S-2 apples
L-big salad
S-spoonful of raw honey (I was so hungry before dinner)
D-salad, sweet potato chips, gazpacho with avo

Had a little warmed tea...I gave up coffee last week so this is a big improvement. Had to wait until the weather improved-coffee is so nice in the winter!!

Have a great day!

Good Morning!

Today is dd's 13th birthday-guess what she's getting for breakfast? Raw apple juice! It's the only fruit she'll eat so...soon enough I plan on sneaking some grape or pear juice in-don't tell!

Went to the food health food store yesterday and stocked up with plenty of yummy produce, nuts, coconuts...it's such a good feeling and I feel so lucky to have so much. I love the feeling I get when I chop, chop, chop-that probably sounds stupid but it's TRUE!

I'm having raspberry/banana smoothie for breakfast salad with avo for lunch. Taking dd to her fave restaurant for dinner-the Outback-that's where I anticipate some major challenges!!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions??? I'll take any!!

Thanks!

I have been away, out of town, so today counts day 1 for me, is that ok?? Staying raw, 100% for me!!

Today, I don't have a plan yet, but I have already had an orange, and in a few minutes, I'll have that ripe pear calling my name! I also have some walnuts.....

Then I have to go to the grocery store.

This month, my goal is to up the greens...to have 1 green smoothie a day, and a salad...nothing like munching on a salad, with nuts and grape tomatoes, and mashed avo...yes, that's what I'm having for dinner...

I'll post later with my food intake for the day.

I also want to get in 8 glasses of water to see if it helps me release some extra lbs.!!!

If you go to the top of the page to the Banana (the search button) and on the next screen type in Raw Nestle Crunch in the key words box you will find it. So far I am just sipping lime water and green tea, and letting the morning sunshine radiate through my being. Have a great day, and I will check back later.

Wow, it is day 5 and I was so hungry today that I already ate my lunch at 11AM. I feel like I am hungrier than I was last week. What gives? Oh well. I am taking the stance of eat whatever you want that is raw and deal with the few pounds you want to lose later (maybe much later).

Also, I am feeling really chilly lately. I think I may think I am hungry since I am so cold. Will probably try drinking some hot water to see if that helps. I was working out in my yard yesterday and while all my neighbors were wearing shorts and t-shits, I wore a sweat shirt and long (winter) pants and I still felt chilly. Hate being chilly...

Good Morning all my Rawlicious Friends :)

I feel a little better this morning but, the scale tipped me a pound up. Yesterday I was a pound down. So, I'm yo-yoing a bit. I really ate way too much yesterday. Even though it was all salad I had to lay down after I ate.

I'm going to work on my portions today and remove the snack bars. I think they are just way to fattening for me right now. Plus, I couldn't sleep very well.

So, my plan today is to workout have my tea and banana and a salad for lunch and fruit tonight. ;)

Today for breakfast I had a smoothie made of bananas, strawberries and spinach. I split it with my 11 mo old.

For lunch I had celery dipped in Rich Cheddar Cheese Sauce

For a snack one of my dump it all together fixes for chocolate craving. It usually consists of raisins, choc. agave. Just spoon it in my mouth.

I do have to say that my craving aren't as bad today and neither is my hunger. I am trying to pay attention and differentiate between craving and hunger. Sometimes its difficult.

For dinner probably a large salad.

So far so good.

Hi All!!

So far still doing good. Mainly smoothies for breakfast, fruits and veggies for lunch and salad for dinner. maintaining about 95% raw.

Haven't noticed any changes in energy level :(
Weight maybe down a lb or 2 but hard to tell because it fluctuates so much.

This is my first time being raw...going straight from a sad diet. I feel kind of crappy, but then I usually do (I think it has become the norm!).

Will all of this change soon????
Comments anyone?

So it's now been six days and I thought I would give you an update on how its going...

The first thing I have noticed this time is that I'm looking for cleaner tastes, by cleaner I mean not over processed or dehydrated. I seem to be more happy to eat a single fruit or a simple salad.

I've never been a huge fan of nuts but I have to say I have been having a strange pull towards nut butters.

I have noticed that I'm eating much, much less. In the day I'm having a bit of fruit and one or two pieces of vegetables.

I'm still drinking about 2ltrs of water a day but I have been doing this for as long as I can remember.

I don't know where I'm going to go from here but I'm quite determined to keep it up as I feel so much better so soon. I do however need to start to plan a lot more.

So far today has been a green smoothie - 2 frozne bananas, a big bunchof spinach and watered down kombucha - yummy

Hi everyone,
Doing well with the raw challenge. I've decided to have mostly greens, fruits and vegetables for the month. I had been eating too many nuts and fats and my weight wasn't reducing. Yesterday I had mostly green smoothies. Today I started with some fresh orange juice. Nothing tastes better! For breakfast I had a green smoothie (water, spinach, Maca and banana). Going to have a big green salad for lunch and probably another smoothie for dinner.

Sipping on a smoothie made of:

one avocado
three handful of mixed organic salad greens
one ripe, ripe mango
two small apples
a handful of fresh, organic strawberries
about 16 oz. fresh water

It's DELICIOUS and NUTRICIOUS. ;)

I'm really loving being a raw fooder... I feel energized despite the heavy spring winds that usually have me feeling like CRAP down here in Southern AZ. :) And I'm getting my mental and spiritual energy stabilized, as well... raw food isn't the ONLY lifestyle change I'm making, but it has been the keystone to renovation! :)

I also had a small banana and a handful of yummy raw almonds for breakfast this morning.

I'm feeling really good. I've had generalized anxiety for years and I feel so much calmer after just giving up processed sugars for a little over a month.

So far today: grapes, GS, celery. I'm really craving a banana w/ cashew butter so maybe that will be next. I'll have a choco banana shake for dessert and I'm not sure what else. I'm going to give the corn chips a try. They'll be ready tomorrow. I'm also going to get the pecan carrot burgers going.

Did not get any excercise yesterday due to a killer project that had to be completed for school. Literally sat at my computer for 15 hours straight and got up 4 times. Thats is not balanced or health. Grad school is killing my physique. Yesterday was raw though, had a great mexican raw pizza for dinner. Food for today:
B- GS 2 nannas, cocoa powder, greens and coconut h2o
s-peas and carrots
L-big sald, raw pizza and watermelon
D- veggies and hummus and papaya and pineapple
1 hour walk with hand weights. Not major cardio but considering I have only had 4 hours sleep I am doing o.k. Rawk on Rawbies. :D

Well,

Breakfast: I had my green tea w/lemon & honey and a banana.

Then, I worked out this morning and then I did my ranch chores (picking up recycled hay from the horses and stuff)

I had a friend come over today and I made us:

Lunch: Spinach chips w/guac. & salsa and a small spinach salad w/baby carrots, red cab., broccoli, sprouted sunflower seeds, & avocado - yummy....

But, then I had munchies

Snack/Dinner Combo: I had 1/4 of a larabar, 1 raw chocolate piece from goraw, some dates & raisens, 2 bites of rawvolution bar, and an apple.

Late night Snack: A few bites of watermelon and honeydew

Maybe, it's not as much food as I am thinking it is............funny how that seems once you write it down.

I'm finishing a green smoothie before bed now, had a cracker and some "cheese" previously, and had a big green salad with tomatos, avocado slices, lime juice and salt for flavor for dinner a couple hours ago...

I ate pretty lightly all day until about 6pm because I was in classes, so just munched on fruit and smoothies...

So I'm pretty sure between being rather bloated from too many almonds the other day and the unmentionable lady's issue (bleh), I have either gained 5 lbs on raw or am... just bloated.

*laughing*

Either way, I'm perfectly happy diet-wise right now... I've been fighting pretty minor little headaches off and on for a few days but otherwise ENERGIZED and ALIVE.

I'm also beginning to see the light on other life troubles, and finding ways of working through some of my "broken heart"... and all because I'm finding BALANCE through RAW LIVING!!!

:D

I want all my friends to know about Raw but I'm giving myself a few more weeks to get some "results" to share and stoke their fires!! :)

Good morning everyone! I just declared that my kids will participate in a rawkin' fun all raw day, too! I've got yummy things for them to eat, including the divine choco/banana shake. I'm so excited to see how it will go. I'm making the pecan carrot burgers and a huge salad and we have piles of fresh fruits/veggies/dried fruit/nuts. Who knows, maybe they'll take a sip of a GS, too.

Good morning everyone! I was so busy I did not have time to post. Our homeschool is finishing up our end of the year test that is required from the state.....:p Anyway.

I feel some crud "moving". Sore throat and I can feel the drainage....that's yucky too. I keep having to clear my throat, which is driving me crazy. I guess it's a detox thing.

PROTEA AND RAW YOGINI:
I notice that you keep posting that you are having a choco banana shake. What are you putting in it??

Today's plan is:
apple/banana/walnut drizzled in coconut oil for breakfast

Lunch: GS

Dinner: salad with avo and sunflower seeds and maybe some more apple, some dulse flakes sprinkled....??? whatever else I want to put in.

1c. water
1c. ice
1-2 frozen bananas (peeled and chopped before freezing)
1/2 c. almonds
a pinch of salt
a dash of vanilla
a bit of agave
1 1/2 T cacao powder
Blend well. It it truly yummy! My SAD b-friend even had to admit it tastes very similar to a SAD choco shake.

I'm in! New to the site and new to raw. I've just started my journey and thought this would be a great challenge to keep me going.

I've been trying now for two weeks, but not 100% yet hopefully this will do it for me. I was preparing for a MC fast but think I'll delay it until after this challenge...

I don't know if I need to put this but weight is 175 lbs.

Ok... diving in the deep end! Hopefully it's not too late to start.

hello everyone!
Im new and would love to join your 30 day challenge. I came off the Master cleanse the end of April and started raw may 1st. I have been on and off raw but this time its different. I feel each time i have learned something new and it finally has clicked. I start with a smoothie made from 1/2 frozen banana, frozen strawberries, water, spirulina, frozen blueberries, bee pollen, 1 tsp coconut oil, chia seed.

throughout day i make my green lemonade with lots of greens and 1 apple and 1 lemon and carrots. (i love this because i have no cravings for sweets at all) then around 4pm i have a big salad lots of veggies and grilled zuchini.

today i added lara bar around lunch time..looking forward to learning from all of you!:)

Larabars are raw??? They have them at the Co-op in town here... I should try them, then! :) How do you know for SURE they are raw if they're not labeled raw??

I'm munching on cucumbers, tomatos, avocado, raw crackers and raw
cheese for breakfast/lunch.

I'm still having detox headaches on and off, but otherwise feeling AWESOME!!!

I also have had friends saying "You look GREAT" and "Your SKIN is GLOWING".

YAY!!!

Today I at lots and I mean lots of watermelon. Finished off the rich cheddar cheese sauce. I desperately need to make more, because I love this stuff not to mention it is very filling. For dinner a large salad with lettuce mix, spinach, peppers, tomatoes, raisins, walnuts, celery, cucumbers and that about it. I also need to make more chocolate treats as those really, really, help with the craving. On or two bites will do the trick. I had read before people saying that they would only take one or two bites, and I would think how is that possible? I thought I would devour the entire thing, but they are right. Just a bite or two will do it. Craving have really tapered off. YEAH!!!

thats all for now. Hope everyone is doing great

Hi Everyone!!!
I am having the preraw health issues that I used to have before going raw. Just with in the last 3 weeks, I have a crack on the inside of my nostril, which I used to get all the time, my skin is breaking out like crazy, and my stomach is really gassy, and bloated, and I seem to have a little soar throat. All this began shortly after I started upping my greens and doing low fat raw. Do you think there is a correlation? Am I lacking something in my diet, or is this detox? I am by no means doing no fat, that would be impossible for me. I eat lots of avos and young coconut, and just this week added some tahini and hazelnuts, and actually now that I think about it my nose owie is doing better this week than last. I am trying to lose weight, but the scale is not budging. I have been afraid to step on it this week because I am not able to do my intense workouts due to my school load. Here is my yummies for the day, just kind of snacked all day, sometimes that is nice.
Juice of collards greens first thing in morning, carrot, grapefruit, lime, cucumber juice about 16 oz, GS with 2 bananas, lots of greens and coconut water, raw pizza crackers, salad with 1/2 small avo and other veggies, some raw tahini honey candy and raw hazelnut choc. candy about 1 TBL each, lots and lots of fruit, 1 banana, 1 papaya, strawberries, 1 small apple, fruit dip and dried pineapple.

Everyone is doing so well!! That's awesome!!

Looks like a couple of you have some detox symptoms going on... just hang in there -- it will pass!

pinkrosebud... your nose sounds very sore! I do hope it's healing up okay. If you are gassy - you might want to either do an enema or take some laxative tea (some peeps use the Smooth Move Tea, I use the Yogi 'Get Regular Tea') it will help you to keep those bowels moving. It's super important to make sure you are getting those toxins out of your system that your body is trying to release!

Gotta tell ya rawbies... over all I cannot believe how little ya'll are eating!! Im fasting right now - and will be breaking my fast on Saturday... so I'll start posting my food next week.... kinda embarressed though  - cuz jeepers - when ya'll see how much I eat throughout the day - you're gunna think I eat way tooo much!! :D

I'm so glad we've got one week down... and we're headed into week 2 already!! Pretty awesome!

blessings and everyone have a Rawmacious Day tomorrow!

There is a lot to get used to eating and living this way! My dh has had some time off lately job hunting and we have been eating out more-boy! a person has to be diligent with the waitstaff at restaurants! I honestly don't think they care (the rolling of the eyes kill me!!).....ahhhh....I'm crabby I think...someone give my husband outta here!!! :)

OK, great things-I feel lighter, slimmer-I need to lose about 10lbs and I just don't want to weigh myself. I feel terrific-but I feel like all I do is eat-I've added more protein-I had to!!! Found out that walnuts do NOT agree with me-I'm a slow learner!

Today-
B-warm tea, fruit/coconut smoothis
S-GS
L-huge salad
D-BBQ chicken fingers, cornbread

That's the plan so far! Have a great day!

I am juice feasting today. Little sleepy so I think I will take a nap instead of doing the mounds of homework I need to accomplish.
So Far:
Juiced a bunch of green leaf lettuce, but only came out to about 6-8 oz
30 oz of grapefruit, orange, lime juice, Later will be cucumber watermelon. I am planning on doing 1 hour spinning class and 1 hour yoga class. I have to make up for not getting any excercise in Monday and taking light walks on tues and weds.
STARFIRE: I too eat a lot of food, and after looking at everyone's posts I am worried that I am way over doing it, especially considering my symptoms and inability to lose weight. What does a normal days eating look like for you? Have you gained any weight after your initial dramatic loss? I know you are fasting right now, but I am curious about your experience with raw because I started raw about two or three months after you did (I think). I also used to have a very active lifestyle which has dramatically shifted due to my crazy graduate program, but when I finish it will hopefully be worth it, because I plan on moving to Hawaii to become a teacher. That's my dream anyway. Thanks for any insight you may be able to share.
