View Full Version : Strange reaction / swollen + rash on upper lip
I have been raw for 2 weeks now. (Started off with a 7 day Master Cleanse.)
Last week I ate some strawberries. They were delicious, and I had no strange reactions.
Then this past Sunday I ate more strawberries (organic & washed)... and shortly after had a tingling sensation in my upper lip. This turned into a swollen painful upper lip on Monday, and today I have what looks like a red rash that is itchy. I have never had food allergies, and find it odd that I ate the same thing only days before.
I am wondering if this has something to do with the change in my diet to all raw. Previously I was a vegetarian and relatively healthy. Could this be a detox symptom? Or perhaps a sudden allergic reaction?
Anybody else ever experience this, or have any thoughts?
I'm flying out in 2 days to go see a long-distance boyfriend... and don't want to have my lips look like this! :( Any suggestions on natural remedies???
thanks, Joya

Did you recently wax?

It could be anything, but I did a simple google search plugging in strawberries and rash. Could be nettle rash which is a common rash caused by strawberries....
Run a search if you want more information. I don't want to post the link as it's a non-raw site. Congratulations on being raw for 2 weeks & best wishes!

"What is nettle rash?
Nettle rash (also known as urticaria) is composed of reddish itchy weals or swellings in the skin similar to those resulting from contact with stinging nettle. Urtica is the Latin word for nettle.
The rash may vary in shape and size, can be very itchy and usually goes away within 24 hours. Nettle rash may occur repeatedly or as a single episode.
What causes nettle rash?
In about 90 per cent of cases there is no apparent cause. Sometimes, however, it is possible to identify the cause of the nettle rash and it appears to be most commonly due to an allergic reaction. Any of the following may trigger symptoms:
a particular kind of food that causes an allergy. ---, nuts, strawberries and ---- are some of the common culprits."

Thanks RawHeaven.
Yeah, it's obviously some kind of reaction. I did a google search too, but didn't see nettle rash. Thanks for brining it to my attention.
I'm sitting here holding a cold cucumber slice to my lips. No idea if it will help, but it's making my coworkers laugh. :)

Ha, you're welcome.
Good luck with the cucumber, hope it works. If it doesn't try aloe vera and/or tea tree oil also. Both good for skin eruptions/infections. The tea tree oil may burn, but it will work.
I think Lifeagift asked about waxing because it causes rashes in some cases.
